No, wrong. GTFO. You don't deserve this water. Die of thirst. No offense.
Love how the superstars get the late game calls in the NBA. That's how it should be. All the little nobody losers crying about the calls and the superstars are all like :gocho: .

Yeah I don't think his shooting % is very good this series. I posted that right after he blocked a Roy Hibbert dunk attempt above the rim. I enjoy watching him play.
Not sure why everyone loves the Thunder. Nuggets are much more fun to watch. I really like Lawson.

Durant is ridic. Thunder would be a better team if they traded Westbrook for Lawson though. Westbrook is way overrated.
Heat vs. Celtics next round
Akeem Wright will be tweeting at me throughout the series, for he is a Celtics fan :flush:
Come on Memphis!
This Heat/Celtics series has the potential to be as entertaining as the old Heat/Knicks series' during the late 90's. :DClear cut lines here, everyone needs to pick a side. And none of this I want the Heat to win but I think the Celtics will bullshit.
Both teams playing unbelievable defense in the 1st quarter.will be supprised if heat can win by out grinding the best grinders

Yes, amazing.
I've loved the Heat since the days of Harold Miner and Glen Rice (which makes me better than all the bandwagon Heat fans today) but I really started liking them when Alonzo Mourning went there from Charlotte. No two teams will ever hate each other more than the Knicks and Heat of the mid 90's.

Wasn't trying to say he was good or bad, just showing his %. But he wasn't going to make that shot no matter what. They plays they're chalking up are terrible. Well, they may be great for all we know, but it's terrible that they wait until there's 7-8 seconds left on the shot clock before they run them.

Fine. I'm probably overhyping him a little right now because I hate the celtics so much. But you are underhyping him. You put Dirk and Carmelo over him.

Like over 25 ppg and 10 rpg through an entire playoff series? Yeah, only 4 people have ever done that.
Dirk is an all-time great. Lebron will be, but only because of the hype. He won't have the stats to back it up.
it's his career stats that people are talking about. reg season and playoff.
james exposed himself when he joined the heat because wade is clearly the better player.
man, perkins just acts like a bitch these days.
James overall year: FG% - .506 and 3ptFG% - .325
Nowitzki overall this year: FG% - .515 and 3ptFG% - .415
Lebron takes a lot more shots, so yeah, he'll get more points. Lebron is a better defender, I agree. I'm not saying James is bad, he's definitely one of the best in the league. But comparing him to Michael Jordan? Don't you think that's a pretty big leap? (I know you didn't, but you seem to be taking the side that he's all all-time great)

I never said anything about him being an all-time great. I'm just refuting your statement that somehow Dirk's stats backed up his status while Lebron's status was due to hype. Obviously their stats are pretty comparable with James' being slightly better in most categories.

Yeah, but Lebron's status is much, much higher than Dirk's. Do you think if Dirk became a free agent and switched teams that there would be a "Decision"? Does anyone call him "King Nowitzki"? They are comparable players, and everyone and their mom could tell you who Lebron James is and a lot fewer could tell you who Nowitzki is. I mean, still a lot of people, but much less than people who know Lebron.

All NBA players have out of control egos. Did you see the celebration after the trade? Not winning a title after that stuff would be a gigantic faceplant. And that would be absolutely comical to "witness." If you don't understand about pulling for someone to fail, then maybe your shirt is tucked too tight?

Thunder in 5.
it's not like there's nothing to that. a guy off the bench can go balls to the wall because he knows he'll being going back to the bench before long. they also don't have to worry about fouling out for the same reason.
i don't know if james was clutch last night or not, but he's still not a clutch player. his shooting is so weak it's hard to believe.

Meh, he scored 9 in the final 4:30, drove and scored to push the lead from 5 to 7 with less than 90 sec left and then hit a 3 with 45 sec left to ice the game. That's clutch by anyone's definition...except lebron haters.

making a 3 with :45 left when you're up by 7 and the shot clock is winding down is not clutch in any way. there's zero pressure in that situation.

Why do they have to be tied or trailing in the final minutes to be considered clutch when he hits a shot? Just because they are winning doesn't mean that it isn't a big shot. You listen to Skip Bayless too much.

LeBron's D on Rose was ridic. How can someone that big move like that?
he may not be a great shooter, but he sure plays clutch defense.

I love the superstars in the NBA. All of them. I hate the so called "blue collar" guys who are super intense and praised by the media for the "energy" they bring or taking charges or whatever. Cheering for Charlie Hustle is what college basketball is for.

saying that he is clearly the best is going way overboard. you could make a comparable arguments for at least five players. outside of laker fans, most people have been reluctant to throw that sort of excessive praise at bryant. if anything, he's been underrated. james is treated differently based on expectations from long ago - whether he fully lives up to them or not.
I don't think it's overboard at all to call James the best player. He obviously is. He put a clownsuit on Rose (and I love how he kept referring to him as "the mvp"). Also, Bryant was underrated because of his off-the-court issues. He was/is rough ridin' amazing.
Some people hate greatness. :dunno:

He put a clownsuit on Rose (and I love how he kept referring to him as "the mvp"). Also, Bryant was underrated because of his off-the-court issues. He was/is rough ridin' amazing.
Some people hate greatness. :dunno:
he said clearly the best, which is different from the best. and it's not obvious to me that he's the best.
is any player ever clearly "the best?" lebron or otherwise? the whole idea seems silly to me. lebron is a better player than martavious irving by any measure, but is he better than nowitzki? how do you answer that question? the fact that my opposition to the statement that he is clearly the best appears to be so controversial when "i know it when i see it" is the only real evidence available says quite a lot about the direction of the lebron bias.

Lebron would clownsuit Dirk.
He's the best all-around player in the NBA. He does more things extremely well than anyone else. He can guard every position on D and play every position on O. He's the only player you can say that about.
the player that is by far the best is the one that has by far the most people that think he is by far the best
You know who I hate? Durant lovers. GTFOOMF with those floppy arms.

if that's the criteria for comparison, players like chris paul and dwight howard aren't even close to being top 20 players because they're not very versitile.

Not really. He's by far the most versatile player in the NBA. You could easily be not very versatile and be in the top 10.
I also hate people who complain about Craig Sager's suits. I mean, is this the first time you've ever watched the NBA ever?

heard radio sports talk guy say the heat comeback was better than the mavs comeback. i'm calling all of this nonsense the lebron effect.
wait, stevesie was mocking lebron?
Who said Lebron was "easily the best player of all time?" Also, Lebron played better than wade over the course of the game, he also defends better than Wade. Just becuse they scored the same amount of points in the last 3:30 does not mean they had equal overall games.

Pretty meh. The guy makes 32 free throws in a row, and then misses two clutch free throws that would have made the game a lot easier for Miami to win. If Rose made that free throw and it ends up tied, who knows what happens in OT.
Wade scored just 9 points in the last 3:30 minutes, the same as Lebron. Why is everyone only talking about Lebron? Because of his hype and marketing. If you think someone is the next MJ or "the chosen one" then that's what you're going to see, whether that's actually what's happening or not. I'm not denying Lebron is a great player, but Dirk scored 9 of the last 10 points for his team to come back and beat the Thunder. He played BY FAR better than anyone else on that court. Lebron played just as well as Wade. Why is Lebron EASILY the best player of all time?

Wade unbelievably butthurt right now. :horrorsurprise:
Hate all these dumbasses copying Garnetts dumbass "don't let the ball go in after the whistle" routine.
van gundy has started to grow on me, but damn sometimes crap gets awkward when he starts talking. His whole rico suave thing with erik spoelstra comes to mind.

Is Dirk as good as MJ? I think he's reached that level.
Is there anything moreboringamazing than watching Dirk put his head down until he gets to the elbow and then pull up and shoot a one-legged jump shot and then go hit some 3's??
Dirk is not clutch.

no, part of an illustration of how he has been a failure thus far in miami. the point is that he won't be happy about being miami's pippen.
how in the wide world of eff has he been a failure
how in the wide world of eff has he been a failure
So far, he's failing to accomplish what he wanted to when he decided to go to Miami: be the player who is universally regarded/celebrated/adored as the best. He made that goal clear when he was a free agent. This will be the case at least for as long as Wade is their #1 option at closer. I don't make the NBA superstar rules, but one of the them is that the best player gets the ball at the end of the game.
No, he wanted to go to Miami so he could win championships. And at this point it seems like he may be completely succeeding at accomplishing what he wanted to do.how in the wide world of eff has he been a failure

Well, I mean, to me, I think my ultimate, my ultimate goal is winning championships, and I understand that me going down as one of the greats will not happen until I, you know, win a championshiphttp://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5238743
So you agree that his goal this season was to win a championship and he is well on his way to accomplishing that goal. No, he wanted to go to Miami so he could win championships. And at this point it seems like he may be completely succeeding at accomplishing what he wanted to do.
Winning championships is a means to an end for him. He's talked about that a lot.QuoteWell, I mean, to me, I think my ultimate, my ultimate goal is winning championships, and I understand that me going down as one of the greats will not happen until I, you know, win a championshiphttp://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5238743
it's not only about championships. he doesn't want to be just any dude with lots of rings. there are plenty of those guys. he wants jordan status. (remember the billionairre, global superstar talk?) but there's a scenario unfolding in which he can't attain it even if he does win championsips. and that's a win for lebron haters.
lebron's ws/48 is the best in the league and in the playoffs. he's as close as you can get to Jordan. not really comparable at all to Pippen. we could conclude that James is the best team player in the game and is easily the most important player in the game since Jordan.

i didn't fall into that media trap when it was set last offseason. but i can understand how some might have fallen into it and are blinded by the hate
the last two games when Miami had a shot to take the lead with less than a minute left in the game, they gave it to Wade in game 2, and Bosh in game 3. In the words of Bill Walker, "it's hard for me to like a guy who at the end of the game, wants to pass the ball to his teammates. You the number 1 option man, take the basket."
That does make him a team player, and that's respectable. I just don't see a clear distinction in talent between Wade and LeBron as I did with Jordan and Pippen.

Love that Doris asked Rick Carlisle how they have been able to keep the Heat from going on runs after the Heat ended the 3rd on an 8-1 run. She is awful.

The Mav's really are not great. Can't believe Miami blew that.
In a rare instance I will admit I misspoke. Lebron is arguably the best player in the league. I got too caught up with his performance in the Chicago series. He is still better than most here give him credit for however.

Yeah, Wade and James have swapped roles in this series. Lebron took (and made) almost every big shot in the Chicago series and even against the Celtics. Seems stupid to now defer to Wade in the Finals simply because he has a championship. He needs to be just as aggressive as he was in the last two series.
So Rashard Lewis mumped Lebron's girl?First his mom now his girl.
anyone have a link to watch>?
Split in Miami, Miami gets 1 of 3 in Dallas, wins final 2 at home. Heat in 7.
Lebron should take his talents to the 4th quarter.

Dirk said on PTI that Cuban wants to do bracelets for the team. He said all of the guys on the team will do everything they can to talk him out of getting them bracelets because they want rings. But either way, they will be amazing.

Being in Dallas, they could obviously get by with some gaudy ass belt buckle, but none of them would wear it.
Bracelets would be like buying me a purse for my end of year bonus rather than giving me the cash.

not surprised that you like the thunder considering you're the biggest tuck on the board.
it's really a shame that beasley isn't a stud like durant.his tweenerness hurts him almost as much as the dislike mean NBA people have for his beautiful personality. I still have hope he will end up as a valuable bench scorer for a good team. Right now he just needs a contract

hmm, well if you're not cheering for a Heat/Celtics matchup in the ECF then you aren't an NBA fan.
Not gonna happen but how butthurt would the goEMAW NBA fan contingent be if the conference final matchups are OKC/SA and IND/PHI?

While tonight's game wasn't nearly as bad as that series, the officiating was still a joke. I watched tonight's game just to check back into the NBA and it was the same old preferential treatment for the stars bullshit there has always been. Same old bald, 60-year-old referees they've had for 20 years that can't keep up, having to make quick assumption calls and giving the stars the benefit of the doubt.
O, I just saw Kobe Bryant and some other guy get tangled up out of the corner of my eye, I better quickly call a foul on the other guy.
Thunder are the most boring, unwatchable team in the league. All they do is shoot 18 foot jump shots.

Mario Chalmers is so god awful. Defensively he is solid but offensively he is not an NBA pg. Amazing what the Heat have been able to do with him at pg all year.

Rondo is a Boss. Also, though I've long called KG the biggest bitch in the NBA I've been coming around on him, and pretty much wish I could take those words back. He's an agitator to be sure, but he is smart about it. That arm-lock on Lebron was a thing of beauty and almost worked. He almost has a Jamaresque quality to his game.
Sorry KG.

Yep, fouling on offense with 20 seconds left in a tie game thus giving the opponent the last shot is a genius move.
jfc.
They talked Lebron and "The Decision" for a long time on Petro today. Amazing to hear all the backwater hayseed hicks calling in to hate on Lebron and extol the virtues of Larry Bird.
Is Boston v. Miami possibly the ugliest bunch of players in history? I mean, outside of Wade every one of those guys is just a disaster. I feel like one of them needs to pick up Jake to help the looks factor.

man, it's great to love the Thunder right now.

given 33's hypersensitivity to white midwesterner lebron hate, his white midwesterner westbrook hate is amusing.

The people I talk to hate Lebron because he doesn't take over the game when he's supposed to be the best player. The same people hate Westbrook for attempting to take over the game when he's not the best player, saying he should be passing it to Durant or Ibaka.
I think the "taking over a game" talking point is pretty dumb, same as "being clutch". If you average 30 points a game, I don't see why it matters which quarter you score those 30 points in.

that really wasn't fun at all.

I'm not saying he was faking, but he sure as hell was milking the crap out of it. Running around just fine on offense, hits a three and can barely walk to mid court. Airballs a three and needs help getting off the court. GMAFB. I wonder what Bird, Jordan, Seau, Romanowski, Payton, Lott, Barkely would do when they got a cramp? Act like a rough ridin' pussy?? Take themselves out of the last minute of the most critcal game of their career? Probably not.

TAH-DAH! The new talking point for when LeBron has a championship.
I like Lebron, but I love listening to his haters hate. The meltdown when he finally wins a championship will be fantastic, but unfortunately, I think it will put an end to the haters.
*Also, I tend to like superstars who play for one team more than players who demand trades/enter free agency despite perfectly good offers from where they are. I liked Lebron more when he was a Cavalier, and "The Decision" really didn't bother me at all.

Did he really have that good of an offer from the Cavalier's? "Hey, Lebron, stay with the team so we can milk as much money as possible from your extreme talent and marketability while we do pretty much nothing to secure you a supporting cast that will help you win championships." I'm not a Lebron lover, but I also don't see anything wrong with him moving from a team that made no effort to build a championship caliber team. Jordan needed a Pippen. Lebron had a Delonte West.

A quick google search suggests to me that Cleveland offered him $30 million more than any other team. Regardless, I wouldn't like him as much for leaving even if Cleveland offered less. I understand why he would want to leave. I just don't like it. It's hard to explain. At least he didn't wait until he was already on the way out to go and try to win a title like Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, or Kevin Garnett. That just reeks of desperation.
This is the moment we've all been waiting for!!
By scoring 29pts for the rest of this series LBJ can be the 4th player to score 700pts for a postseason(AI/Shaq/Hakeem/Jordan)

Is that if they finish the series tonight, or if it goes 7?
I'm stuck in the Detroit rough ridin' airport and won't get to see my heat win the title they've worked so hard for.Umm.... airport bar?
The Heat are proving pretty much every single myth about them wrong with this series and especially tonight. Incredible.
lebron is immenently cheerable. the rest? no. I am happy for lebron not the heat. as the best player he deserves it.
putting the lebron hating aside for the moment, here's why lebron would never be a player that i like.
lebron's game is not that much fun to watch. he has very little skill relative to the other superstar players. he's just bigger, stronger, and faster than his opponents. iit's like watching a twelve year old play against eight year olds. bfd. not impressed.

Yeah, i, too get really rough ridin' bored watching some guy do really athletic stuff to get to the rim and dunk all over people. Maybe if lebron would knock down more step-back 18 footers, then he'd be bearable to watch.

word on the street is that lots of nba players can dunk, and that quite a few do it with a lot more style than lebron. that is indeed the best part of his game, though. the rest is very meh. unless, of course, you like cheering, "nice job of being born a big, strong, fast guy, lebron," in which case your all time favorite player is probably shaq.
i don't know why there is so much confusion over lebron hating. it has nothing to do with stats or rings.

So you think everyone in the top 10 except Dwight Howard and LeBron James are good?
i was responding to thoughts of the form, "lebron is one of the best [insert skill] in the game." i don't think he's particularly skilled relative to his peers.
only butthurt kstate fans would infer that i was suggesting lebron isn't a great player. here's what i've said: he's not as skilled as people say. his style of play is boring to me.

Yeah, we get it. You're just wrong. His numbers are at the top of essentially every statistical category.
If his style bores you , so be it. Eye of the beholder, type of thing.
Not a huge LJ fan myself, but if I had to create a list of more highly skilled SFs or SGs, I'd have trouble. Maybe Kobe in his prime? Durant maybe? I'm curious who would be on your list...

Yeah. People who switch jobs can't be trusted. They're just shifty, IMO. I mean, if you had to choose between an elite job in Miami surrounded by elite coworkers or a horrible job in Cleveland surrounded by crying middle-aged women who bring babies to work and force you to do everything in the entire company, that's a no-brainer for the Cleve every time.
And what title teams aren't "loaded with talent?" Is Magic less impressive because he played with Kareem and Worthy? Kobe because he had Shaq? Bird because he had McHale, Parrish, etc?
It would also be more impressive if he did it with only four guys on the court at a time. The whole "superstars don't switch teams" thing makes no sense. Jordan was already in a good market and had a GM that surrounded him with talent. He didn't have to leave. Same with Magic and Bird. Lebron was in a shitty town playing for a GM that surrounded him with shitty talent. His GM was unable to get the necessary pieces for a title to come to Cleveland, so Lebron went to the pieces. Superstars don't make teams. GMs do.

Lebron was taking that Cavs team to the NBA finals. Is it that far-fetched to think that they were only one player away and that as young as Lebron is, it was far more likely that he would have ended up with a few championships in Cleveland than not? I don't care if it reeks of K-Stateo. Michael Jordan was the Bulls. Kobe is the Lakers. Paul Pierce is the Celtics. Kevin Durant is the Thunder. Lebron was the Cavs. Now he is just some journeyman.
BTW, I absolutely loved "the decision" and wish that everyone who switches teams would do something like that. It's really the only reason I don't absolutely hate Lebron's guts right now.
sideshow bob,
Jordan was only able to be the Bulls because the piece were brought to him (Pippen, Grant, Kukoc, Rodman, Kerr, Paxon, etc).
LeBron and Jordan both won their first title at age 27 but LeBron was able to take his team to the finals before Jordan did.
James > Jordan
and MJ is has done nothing but hurt his rep after leaving the bulls (not succeeding at the Wizards as a player and GM, the failing in Charlotte, the jerky HoF acceptance speech, etc) but he is still more beloved than LBJ.LeBron and Jordan both won their first title at age 27 but LeBron was able to take his team to the finals before Jordan did.
James > Jordan
Jordan finished with 6 rings, though, and is still hands down the most beloved basketball player of all time. More people hate Lebron than embrace him, and that will never change.
and MJ is has done nothing but hurt his rep after leaving the bulls (not succeeding at the Wizards as a player and GM, the failing in Charlotte, the jerky HoF acceptance speech, etc) but he is still more beloved than LBJ.LeBron and Jordan both won their first title at age 27 but LeBron was able to take his team to the finals before Jordan did.

To be fair to LBJ, Jordan is still far more beloved than any other player ever. It's pretty remarkable, really.
James' problem is that people loved Jordan not just for his on-court heroics, but the wholesome, family-friendly, all-around likable nature of his lifestyle.
Plus, he wasn't a quitter. He never left his team high and dry to pursue any selfish whims.

This is all semantics. Bottom line: if Lebron is not more successful AND more loved than Jordan, than his entire life is an embarrassing failure.
Bottom line.
See, Lebron's great miscalculation ("the decision") failed because it never considered how much Americans loved Cleveland and wished that they themselves could spend their lives their working tirelessly toward the promise of never quite succeeding and then being blamed for everything.
What an bad person.

It's not about a love for Cleveland. It's about people believing that if Lebron were really as good as advertised, he would have been able to win his championships anywhere.
Also, the Lebron hate existed before he left Cleveland, but it was nothing like it is now. Lebron wasn't being blamed for anything. He was being praised for taking a bunch of nobodies to the NBA finals.
"The Decision" wasn't the problem. If Lebron had created the hoopla to announce he was staying in Cleveland, I don't think he would have nearly as many haters. People don't hate him for "The Decision". They hate him because he left to go play with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. Most people just point to "The Decision" because they don't want to admit the truth.

People believing ANY single person can will a team to win in a 5 man game set themselves up for disappointment. No team that Cleveland put or was going to put on the floor would have won against any of the current bulls, celtics, spurs, or thunder squads that have at least 2 legitimate all star candidates.

The Thunder were the worst team in the NBA when they drafted Durant and OKC is a smaller market than Cleveland. So, KD>Lebron?

If Lebron would have been surrounded by Westbrook, Perkins, Ibaka and Harden, he would have won a championship. The Thunder without Lebron would easily be better than Cleveland without Lebron.

Which is funny, because Michael Jordan is/was addicted to gambling.

LeBron brought a lot of the hate on himself. He calls himself "The King". I mean wtf?
I just think lebron isn't very competitive.

That's sort of a meaningless stat, though, because some playoff series have more games than others, and the best teams finish their series in fewer games.

How could they possibly have gotten all of that talent to OKC (smaller market than Cleveland)? Everyone keeps saying that Cleveland never would have gotten any talent and that Lebron would have never won a championship there. I think he would have, fwiw, but apparently Lebron did not.
only an idiot would have stayed in the shithole that is Cleveland. those sewer rats should feel blessed that James didn't bolt earlier.

This could be correct. That said, I think Kobe has a lot of Jordan in him...he won't give it up until it's painfully obvious that he should have before.

I look forward to people saying they cant wait to see a thundernuggets showdown.
It just sounds like an awesome McDonald's promo that only comes around during Mardi Gras or something and is chicken nuggets spiked with caffeine.
"Personally, I can't wait for thundernuggets."
"Oh, the highlight of the year will be thundernuggets".
I love how there are some great storylines in some of these 1st round matchups, especially in the west.
SA - LA has Nash and Mike D vs the Spurs again along with the usually LA - SA rivalry
Clips - Grizz was war in last year's playoffs
OKC - HOU for the Beard's revenge
DEN - GS should just be some great up tempo hoops
:can'twaitgif:

Didn't get to watch Pacers-Knicks. Did it have that old rivalry feel to it like when Reggie was there? :drool:unfortunately no. Even the announcing crew was saying how disappointing the crowd was for a playoff game. It will take an unconscious shooting night from Melo or JR to get this series to 6 games imo

Anthony is terrible. Scoring is the most overrated statistic in the nba.

Melo plays with an obese point guard, a 50 yr old point guard, a bunch of puds, and stud JR Smith....all while carrying the team to a 2 seed. What Melo did this season is nothing short of incredible

Melo is insanely good.
Yes, he's very good. Too bad there can only be one mvp.
i'm not saying he is mvp, but people seem to think that just because he isn't mvp that he isn't the leagues best offensive player.
this is very cool (michigancat please click on this link)

its tough to argue against Lebron, mainly because I think he's the best to ever play the game, but they both have completely different offensive styles and also have different talent surrounding them. On the whole, you are probably right. There is just no way Anthony compares to Lebron's efficiency, inclusion of teammates, and offensive rebounding. I'd still probably argue that melo is the best iso player in the game.

I find the bulls extremely unlikeable. Even with Rose sidelined, I just can't stand them. I think it's Boozer's face.

I don't like them because they all make fun of Heat fans for being bandwagon fans, but Bulls fans outside of Chicago are only Bulls fans because of when Jordan was there.
it's easy to hate the heat though. lebron? chalmers? bosh? you've got to be a huge rough ridin' idiot to jump on that bandwagon.

Who isn't a bandwagon fan? I root for enough terrible teams as it is. I've done my part for the "plays hard" underdog.

they could of done what the heat did if they didn't extend Ibaka last year.Keeping Ibaka over Harden is looking like a big mistake
they didn't keep ibaka over harden, dummy. harden wanted more money than they were willing to offer.
bunch of thunder haters in this thread. we just wanted other teams to feel good about themselves. we win so many games that it's not fair. :D
Getting rid of Harden was the right move. You don't pay A money to B players.
Also, how gross is the East outside the Heat? So unlikeable.
Yeah.

You have to be amongst the very best in the game. Hardin and Lebron are on 2 completely different levels. A non-comprehensive list of A players would be
Lebron
Carmelo
Wade
Durant
Curry
Rose
Paul

Not metric based at all. Just someone you can build a franchise around. Harden's a B+.
I think this just comes down to categorization of what makes an "A" player. I define it as the top 2 or 3 (the upper 5% or 10%) players at their position in the league. I'd categorize James Harden at that level as a SG.
Stats: 26.3 PPG, 5.9 APG, 4.8 RPG, 1.9 SPG, 3.7 TO, 44.9 FG%, 37.4 3P%, 23.8 PER, 38.5 MPG
^that crap is A list

I disagree, because its possible to not have 2-3 legit A players at a position.
I don't think there's any centers I'd want to build a franchise around.

Is Kevin Love a Center to you?
I don't know if the center is a thing of the past. We are only 4 years removed from the Orlando Magic making it to the finals with a healthy and completely dominate Dwight Howard. David Lee was pretty damn close to averaging a double double this year, and Kevin Love is a force when he is playing the game. Obviously health concerns is a huge issue with any of those players and for all Centers, but I don't think we have seen the last of superstar big men. In fact, I still think Howard is a legitimate "build around" guy.

Yeah, I don't think the position is dead. I just don't think I would build a team around Dwight Howard at this point, (or David Lee, ever).
What happened to those Ewing, Hakeem, Robinson, Daughetry types? It's not like their roles have changed and they're just no longer prominently featured, a la NFL workhorse running backs. It's like they have just ceased to exist.
I think underveloped skills is probably the biggest component. This article gives a couple good reasons for it, such as "no kid wants to be a low post player." The amount of talk about needing a center to win a championship is always so baffling.
http://m.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2012/05/the-mystery-of-the-disappearing-nba-center/257204/
I think you can still build a team around a big man, but you just aren't going to see many dominant centers like Shaq, Ewing, Olajuwan, etc. like we did in the past. The Spurs built a dynasty around Tim Duncan, who is the greatest power forward to ever play the game, and I could see a team doing that again in the future.lol

It was pretty sad to see the Warriors go last night
I guess if there's a team that can beat Miami, it's San Antonio?
Pacers
hey rusty, how about san antonio's offense, huh? i mean what is this, college ball? you're actually running sets? lmao, are you serious??I love how a guy like Diaw can go his whole career getting absolutely abused on D, put on a Spurs uniform(and 30 lbs of fat) and be able to bang with the best low post tandem in the league
oh well he i'm sure that san an feels good about running that offense- LOOKS LIKE oscar WEBER COACHES THEM. are you serious with this offense? hey i'm all for it - i mean, who doesn't like a good rock and fire mixed in with the old pick and roll? me- i'm pavloving hard when i watch that crap, you could water your lawn with my saliva. who knows though, can they sustain it? PG FRENCH is getting up there in the years and so is the Jamaican Sensation Tim Dunk It Duncan. steroids? growth hormones? maybe. probably but i'm not going to accuse them of PEDs just because they might not be on them and as of now i can't prove anything. if/when i can prove it i will post it here.

Plus, Lebron attracts talent cuz he's not a ballhog. If Carmelo played for the Yankees, he would lead the league in home runs but never let anyone else bat. Also, he would just DH.

It helps that Indy doesn't like to double
LeBron is boring to watch because his game has no style. He and Duncan are starters on the all snoozefest team.
He did more of the 10 to 15 "mid" post game in Cleveland that usually ended up with a fade away or a face up and drive - now he is showing a more traditional low block game with drop steps and jump hooks.I think LeBron always wanted to prove he didn't need to just beast people down low since he was a ki. The little runner shot in the lane - like Clemente used to do - is such a devastating shot because guards can get it off almost at will. It seems to be under utilized. Is it really that difficult of a shot even if you practice it all the time? Parker made it look pretty easy tonight.

I agree with fanning that LeBron isn't a great shooter. He's either on or off and he knows when. Otherwise, he would shoot more. That's why he's a great decision maker.

I really need to start doing layups from the right elbow to the left side of the rim and finish with the right hand instead of the left. (Like Kawhai Leonard did on his and-1). I already do reverses this way, but usually use the left on the left side from straight on. Why do so many NBA players do this? I know they have left hands.

the defender has to go through the player's left to get to the ball. if you use the left, you usually open up and it's an easier block.
Lebron just showed his lack of class as he jerked away from Duncan like a petulant child. Tim HAD to foul him but yes, let's take it personally. I wasn't rooting for either team until then.
Will be fun watching the media worship lebron for the next few weeks/months.
I guess it depends on where the defender is.

I'm sorry. This Heat team is legit, you can't deny that now. But that doesn't mean I admire how they've done it. Just can't. Not my style.
I prefer hard work & the enjoyment of ups & downs as comradery builds into something special. That style unfortunately is in the locker room
Because that's what sports are now: Dollar bills and doing it the easy way. I can't back that. If that means I'm never a champion, so be it.

It would be really interesting to see how he's remembered if that's the case. Based on how the rest of his team played during this year's Finals, having Kyrie Iriving would be enough for him to keep winning Championships, not to mention they'll have this year's first pick.

Irving and Noel are better than Wade and Bosh. Will Ryan Wallace hate Lebron more for taking the easy way out?

Kobe Bryant. Black Mamba. Attack Conquer. 2 4 on my shirt. Kobe doin work. kobe goin for his 6th like it was his 1st. If the lakers keep howard... And steve nash regains his health.. and maybe add a younger athletic defender who can cover the floor defensively ... Watch out lakers... i know they struggled alot last year...but toward the end of the season they were playing well and went 28-12 and then kobe went down. But we all know he will be fine. In fact, he is going to be e :lol:ven better.I'm going to guess you had the lakers in the finals last season
By the way, i really really hate LeBron. But he is so good.

BKN-MIA in round 2 could be fun. The Nets swept them in the regular season... MIA will still probably win, but I could see it going 6 or 7 games.

Yeah but he's only 31. Duncan is 38. Although 0% of Duncan's game is based on athletic ability so that probably helps him.
Hey guys, I watched that 30 for 30 tonight on the Detroit bad boys teams tonight, and it almost made me give a crap about the NBA again! ALMOST! But, no. The NBA is a waste of human flesh and energy, and if it were gone tomorrow and never return to planet Earth I'd wouldn't even notice.

guys, it's cool, Pete used to live in Milwaukee. I mean wtf Pete
I had season tickets to the Mavericks for about 4 years. Not terrible, Pete.
Are Mavs and Thunder games way different than Bucks, 76ers, and Wizard games 10 years ago? I mean I just don't get it. The games I went to were a bunch of corporate white people sitting on their hands, and the games were largely slothful jogging up and down the court with momentary flashes of high level athleticism. To make up for the lack of fan interest, they would blare stupid chants over the loud speakers. It was very awkward. All three venues were the same, so I know it wasn't just a Bucks issue. I reluctantly went to a bunch of Bucks games with co-workers, and thankfully didn't have to spend my own money very often....the sample size isn't small.
I just don't get it how that is fun to people.

How many NBA games have you huge NBA fans been to? They are terrible, just awful.

Warriors games definitely have a Raider-esque edge to them. They're lots of fun. They booed the crap out of the owner at Chris Mullin's jersey retirement.

i've been to one nba game. it was around five years ago and i went with a group of really good friends. it was a mavericks game and they were in the middle of some ridiculous win streak and the arena was sold out. it was two of the more lame hours that spent in my entire life. dead serious. national boring association is more like it.

i sat in the william morris agency's suite at the staples center this past christmas for the heat-lakers game. was pretty great rubbing elbows with maria shriver and hollywood elites while watching Showtime live. xavier henry though, good grief kid, give it up.

Toronto vs Brooklyn seems like it should be a dogshit series, but game one has been pretty entertaining.
I usually start watching the NBA in the playoffs. First thought: The Clippers have lots of really good players.yes, did not realize they had picked up Danny Granger, they could be amazing if he returns to his old form

Conley is great. Just as good as Westbrook but without Durant to take the pressure off.

What a game. Westbrook 29 pts on 28 shots. Going into OT he had shot 4 more times than Durant. Finished with the same amount of attempts. Ridiculous.

The fact that he was 1-7 on threes last night and he was given the potential game winner was not a good plan, imo. got real lucky perkins bailed him out.

I'm not really a fan of any NBA team, but how amazing a nickname is Grizzlies? I mean it's kinda dumb for Memphis to keep the name (not quite as bad as Utah "Jazz" or LA "Lakers", but still), but man, Gizzly bears are just increds.

Whether Sterling made these remarks or not, they are repugnant. Silver needs to investigate quickly, but deliberately. Interesting that Sterling hasn't issued any direct denials that I've seen.

I actually do enjoy the NBA playoffs, I just cant sit through a whole game. I usually watch the second half. It doesn't help that they play on the exact same schedule as the NHL playoffs, which are much better, IMO. The Clippers/GS series has been disappointing, too many blow outs. Houston/Portland and OKC/Memphis very pretty good.

I just watched Adam Silver's press conference. I really was impressed with him, and I think his decision was wonderful. I'm going to give the whole watching an NBA game on TV another try, just because of him. I wish I had one of the ratings devices on my TV, so I could "reward" him for that, in some small way.
I've always liked watching the finals, because everyone is really busting their asses the entire time, and you can see how much it means to the players, and it's dramatic with fans going nuts. If it's like that, I like the game. Reading some of the comments in this thread about the atmosphere at Mavericks and Thunder games sounds promising. My personal experiences attending games of poop teams certainly soured me on it.
Agreed, Silver was sterling.
This Kansas City talk needs to stop. Just stop it.
The Kansas City Jayhawks
I think it's hilarious how much midwesterners hate the NBA. The number of people that have used that talking point "NBA players only play defense in the playoffs" on me the past few days is just hilarious. A KC team would never work.

Great fit. Great hire.
Yep, great hire. They crap canned the last guy who was unproven but coached the team to the best record they have ever had because they supposedly had to win now. So they replaced him with another totally unproven guy and gave him twice the salary as Mark Jackson. I can't stand Mark Jackson but what the GS owner did in essentially giving his buddy a good job and huge payday is borderline criminal.
JFC these late game calls.
it's gotten beyond ridiculousI guess I don't understand the rules, because it makes no sense.
Are you guys complaining about these slap/out off bounds replay calls because:
Rule 8 Section II - c of the NBA rulebook states:
If a player has his hand in contact with the ball and an opponent hits the hand causing the ball to go out-of-bounds, the team whose player had his hand on the ball will retain possession.
The rule isn't new either, the only confusion is why, at the end of game 5, the officials crew didn't cite this as the reason for upholding the call instead of saying the replays were inconclusive.
I'm more upset that they keep missing the foul calls than anything. LeBron fouled Pierce the other night when BKN was down 2 and in the penalty with only a few seconds left. The Heat were pissed about not getting the ball, but they actually had just been bailed out by a horrific no call...

Yes, this is like when Malone won MVP because MJ was taken for granted. When Durant can punish teams for defending him with 6-4 guys he could be a legit MVP. He needs to be a better defender too.

And crap, you named Tony Parker's backup as a top 5 PG in the west.
The Spurs top 4 players (adding Leonard) are better than about every team's top 4 in the west except maybe the clips (really don't know how they lost). I don't disagree w/ you on the individual player rankings (although I think you gave some the benefit of the doubt because they're younger) but not many you mention have three other players as good. It's the anti mj flu story. Heat had better win the series or he'll never hear the end of crampgate
Tim Duncan is 56 years old and still on the court.

Totes weird that CTxcat is all team Texas cheering on SA IMO.
Lebron always seems uncomfortable in his own skinhe needs to use more Dove skin care products
"Lebron, what dictates your decision making?"

LeBron's personality mostly reminds me of that of a large corporation. So, he seems to me to be a good dude insofar as large corporations can be good dudes.

Allen didn't even hit the rim on that layup.
Luck.
That would be the word I would use to describe the Spurs in the first half, would also be the second time I would use that noun. 1st game also applies to that word.

I know he's been bad but not historically bad. I get that he starts because someone's got to..but there should be someone at the table ready to check in at first dead ball.

did anybody keep track of the number of times Duncan complained to the refs about no-calls? or, more specifically, no-calls when he got stripped trying to face up the defender. I like Duncan, but eff, play like a hall of famer and stop being such a pussy. It was pretty bad.
to be fair, LeBron does this a lot, too.

:ohno:
Here comes the lazy "stop the MJ comparisons, Lebron is overrated, etc." bs. He is currently shooting 66 percent both from the field and from three. He has also been the only one who defended at all.
Just straight garbage :flush:
I still 6EL1EV3^
Welp, looks like the Spurs take first place and the Heat take second... or in Beas' case, 5 seconds :tsc:

Apparently you haven't been watching but guard play(Chalmers) was rough ridin' horrible in the Finals. It's great to be known for only 1 shot huh.

Attempting to belittle high school, college and professional champion Mario Chalmers does nothing to augment Beasley's "accomplishments," such as they are. Dat 1 shot doe

I never said anything about Beas' "accomplishments you rough ridin' idiot. Chalmer's doesn't even sniff a conference finals, let alone a conference semi finals as a starter in the NBA without being a part of the big 3 in Miami.
the spurs were ridiculous man. pop is a freakin wizard
Good to see Beas get in the game tonight. Whatever happens in Miami, I think he'll stay in the league next season.

He will because of his offense, he is an enormous liability which pissed me off, because it limits the teams he can play for. That being said, he will probably have a new jersey to buy next year.
How could the loaded, athletic two-time champion Heat be so completely, utterly dismantled by a team with a 38-year-old center, an overweight point forward and a shooting guard with a bald spot?
this is so miami-lol at athletic - Wade looked like the oldest man on the court for all but the 3rd quarter of game 3. But he and Zo are the the two sacred idols of Heat fans, even over LeBron :eek:Quote from: miami heraldHow could the loaded, athletic two-time champion Heat be so completely, utterly dismantled by a team with a 38-year-old center, an overweight point forward and a shooting guard with a bald spot?

Lebron to become free agent:sdeek:
who is ready for the greatest sporting event in the world?!??!?
:excited:
I had no idea the playoffs started. Does that mean hockey playoffs started too?
entire knicks staff has been fired, this is good news to knicks fans (me). phil will turn things around.
When did the jazz change their colors?
this year’s playoffs most remind me of the golden era of nba playoffs (87-97)
although the game itself has changed in such a shitty way, even these players, as bad as they are, can make it exciting for the viewers
I liked when Chris Paul taunted Draymond Green. I'd like to see more taunting.
gonna get really interesting if Cleveland rolls into Boston for game 5 and winsIt's already interesting! But Cleveland was doing really well in game 2 in Boston before LeBron tweaked his neck. I think they'll win the series.
i guess cleveland, ex-james, is enjoyably free of offensive skill.Korver is pretty skilled at shooting but the rest are garbage since Love is out
hou 7/44 good grief these teams rely so much on the perimeterIt's the only shot they had. And it almost worked.
@sys are you cheering against Jeff Bzdelik
Lead assistant for the rockets. Also I think you would have enjoyed PJ Tucker's performance.@sys are you cheering against Jeff Bzdelik
i didn't watch. is he in the nba now? talk about failing up.

They had the best record in the league and took the WCF to seven games. That's almost working. :dunno:hou 7/44 good grief these teams rely so much on the perimeterIt's the only shot they had. And it almost worked.
it didn’t almost work unless the refs called the game at halftime
7/44 and a 10 pt home loss is proof of that
warriors and durant were just better
side note, there’s so much about harden’s game that I don’t understand. been watching since arizona state and it’s all very confusing to me. he missed 59 3 pt attempts in the conference finals, why?
good article but he doesn’t defend d’antoni’s 2nd half strategy very well
ya paul was out but harden can score on anyone in the league off of the dribble
im still peevedMe too, bud. I wanted that for Lebron so bad.
My biggest complaints about LeBron:
1. Beard is longer on the sides than it is in the front. Why??? (Beard also kinda juts out like a bookshelf.)
2. The hair plugs. You can still see the actual, receding hairline. And the faux hairline is WAY too laser straight to pass as any sort of naturally occurring phenomenon.
It's time for Lebron to admit that his plugs didn't take and just embrace the bald look.
My biggest complaints about LeBron:I am digging the 19th century robber baron look.

Yeah, I get that. He's actually a decent actor too. He was pretty funny in Trainwreck and he's going to crush Space Jams 2.
i like lebron, he's a great athlete, incredible basketball player, and very intelligent. i really like listening to him talk about the game. i have no problem with him. i just relentlessly mock millennials who say he's the goat because it's like, lol r u srs?
it's like anyone who believes that lebron is goat was born on mongloid's eve and celebrated their first day of life at downgrade mansion
hey enjoy being put on ignore by real fans of the league. same crew that puts ell above bishop, lmao

he won’t be as good as mj was in space jam
The debate is tiring. I just like watching him play, because he looks like an IRL Monstar against everyone else.

It’s hard to compare greats across generations but I’m curious to know how you evaluate who is the best ever? Lebrons individual stats stack up better than anyone as far as I can tell.
Probably belongs in the pet peeve thread, but home teams wearing dark and away teams wearing white bothers me more than it should. But those Golden State Oakland jerseys are so much better than their regular home uniforms

Golden State’s Kevin Durant expressed interest in playing with Beasley in January (they are friends from Maryland) but he would have to accept their taxpayer midlevel exception of $4.6 million.

LeBron off the backboard to himself.

I don’t have a feeling toward PJ Tucker one way or the other aside from thinking he looks like a guard that’s been retired and playing in the Big 3 for a few years already.ha and Eric Gordon will be Big 3 MVP within months
lets not forget going to a 73 win team that you had a 3-1 lead on is the most bitchmade thing in the history of everything.
chris paul is dirty, scrappy, and a whiner, but it's nothing new. draymond for example.

People (not saying you, stunted) that can't see the difference between a guy like Paul and guys like Draymond Green and Pat Beverly astonish me.

Kawhi Leonard.
:Wha:
god, eff draymondStop pretending that Boogie and Iguadala are anything close to all-stars currently
unfortunate golden state couldn't overcome the adversity of having 4 all stars at home

Leonard reminds me of Jordan in that no one can even come close to guarding him one on one and he's just a scoring machine.
stunner would love asian durant
supermax or player option, not a huge risk to try and help the team move forward

happy for toronto. despite some of their bad person fans, they deserve.

i can't call it a great series when a) it didn't go to 7 and b) the significance that the injuries played in ithappy for toronto. despite some of their bad person fans, they deserve.
no team or fanbase "deserves" a championship
1) gs has a better record without kd so not significant.
2) would you rather see kyle lowry or chris paul win a championship?

It's pretty cool that Dean is a starter and playing decently well.
I didn't know that he had to play with one of the Morris twins, tho.

Going to be so wild to see how we remember Jokic in 10 years. Steph had worldwide influence by making kids start shooting from insane distances, Jokic very well could start an onslaught of chubby kids trying out basketball.
i’m disappointed by the knickerbockers’ play today. all made worse by losing the series to the pacers.the Pacers are great unlike you clams! :shakesfist:
