Post by: steve dave on September 10, 2012, 11:45:21 AM
you guys...guys...listen...guys...I can't listen to BITB today.  I would like someone to provide a play by play of what he says re. college football.  So, once he's done with chiefs stuff would someone mind live posting in this thread about what he says?  tia

WNK's pre-BITB predictions:

MU:  Pinkel lost it with fake punt call.
KU:  KU missed winning the game in all three facets of the game.
Chiefs:  Tide turned with missed fieldgoal.  We don't spend money on enough players.  Getting half our defense back will help.
Manning:  Will make Broncos Super Bowl contender.
Wildcats:  We'll see the real team come OU game.  Miami is not a good team. (being all BITB and stuff)
The Rest:  BBQ, Nascar, BBQ, Nascar, Royals, Local High School Games

Assuming my day shapes up like I hope, I am all over this.

Chiefs will always be the ones to take it in the ass first since they are the metro's professional team.  If he started out with a college team he would receive mass amounts of hate mail and texts telling him he is biased.  He will always build into college athletics after sticking it to Chiefs or Royals.

I get what he's doing. It's just funny to stand back and look at the present and what has taken place over the past couple of months. BITB talks crap on 2 Wildcats who will go down as one of the greatest players in K-State history in their respective sports. Next week I'm sure he'll do a piece on A. Brown Jr.

"people ask me if he(Sams) can throw?  And I answer, how can he be any worse than Klein?"

His deal with Klein is just kind of weird.  It is like he judges a QB's throwing ability purely based on their arm motion rather then actual results.  We all know Klein isn't a pure thrower but at some point you have to admit he's pretty effective.  He's completing over 70% for the season.  Sams may end up a better thrower then Klein before he's done but it's going to take him awhile to get to Klein's level.

How can a team have a "perception problem" if that team is:

1. Ranked #7/8 in both polls only 5 weeks into the season and has only undefeated teams ahead of them
2. Ranked ahead of Stanford in both polls eventhough Stanford knocked off #1 USC
3. Ranked ahead of undefeated Texas, Notre Dame, and Florida teams in both polls (arguably 3 of the 5 biggest name schools in the country and top 10 in recruiting every year)

I hate sports radio 101 due to the fact that the only time I regularly listen to sports radio is during my drive home at 5 along with everyone else. Both stations just talk about stupid chefs crap while all i want to hear is a blurb about my katz....i get it though, more people care about the chefs, whatever.

I  would  like to pose this question:

Do tucks actually know how to troll?

My position is no.  They seem to be mutually exclusive.  To be tuck is to act without any sense of comity when dealing with K-State sports, all talking points must be infinitely serious without sarcasm or wit.  Trolling seems to be the end opposite that position.

KSU could of won and they would still be looked at as a title contender, klein would still be heisman favorite
but they crushed them, just crushed them
and now people are looking at them like they ahve never looked at KSU before
not in 97, not in 98, not in 2003....K-state has everyone's respect now
5 games to go, KSU has to play THEIR WAY OUT, of the national title picture

I think he has learned from prior experiences here.  They tried, very very very late, to promote Sproles, tried to promote Thomas in a K-Stateo way.  I'm really interested to see the stuff they are putting together.  Like the portfolio etc etc.

Brad Edwards on 810.  (I know he's given other interviews - but here's the recap)

Oregon has the edge over K-State if both undefeated.  Edge in the human polls (2/3 of BCS) favor Oregon over KSU.

odds of all teams undefeated is 1-2%

KSU passed Oregon in computer polls.  getting close in human polls.

KEY:  how does Oregon rise up in Computers with a comparable 4 games schedule with KSU?  It will be very difficult if all teams remain undefeated. Oregon will have trouble getting much higher than #4 in the computers if ND remains undefeated.  they are a buffer.  KSU best hope is all 4 teams win out (unless Bama) loses.

KSU can get higher in computers.  ND cannot (garbage schedule).

ND Factor.  If 3 teams undefeated, including ND, doesn't think KSU should be concerned.  Humna Poll bump would have happened after the OU game.  Didn't.  KSU shouldn't be too concerned with ND jumping them in the humn polls if we can go undefeated.

In summary, looks like this thing's a 3 horse race b/w KSU, Oregon, Bama.  undefeated ND helps us suppress Oregon's computer ranking and, therefore, BCS ranking.

the tout from Miami just said the U will not play in ACC champ game if/when they win the Coastal division.  I guess skipping the champ game and turning down a bowl will finish out the 3 year bowl ban  :dunno:

Anywho, it is probably good for EMAW's computer rankings for the U to not take a beating from FSU.

I'm really curious if that's true or not.  I've only heard teams get postseason bans for X amount of years, never banned for X amount of postseason games.  Seems like that rule would really come into play when the playoffs start.

Mike Gundy is amazing coach
OSU is a force for years to come
KSU played one of their worst games
KSU lucky to win, but probably scores high 50s if Klein stays in

What's going to happen December 2nd with coaches poll?
Big 12 coaches have 5 votes, will rank 12-0 KSU #1
Pac-12 have 6 will do same for Oregon
Too much potential fluctuation left to predict favorite right now

Game of the Century. Wonder if it breaks the attendance record

won't even come close. The stadium as is can't even sniff the all time record.

They should figure out a way though. I mean, it is TEXAS of all teams, with a possible outright BIG XII Championship and a mother rough ridin' NC game on the line....

Quote
Daniel Sams on #KState identity: "We still haven't found it yet. Maybe with this loss... and after the game Saturday we'll find it."

He basically said there's a real lack of leadership without Collin around. Says Waters and himself are not very "vocal." Guess he was implying Blake is the leader of the defense.

So I wonder why Snyder is having him do media. Maybe he wants him to be more leader-ish.

- Missouri has a chance to beat uga, they have confidence, Henry Josey is back, offensive weapons. pass rush is good, important vs georgia.

- Stan talks a lot. Holy crap.

- BITB: What kind of shockwave would it send through the SEC if in the first two years A&M won a Heisman and Mizzou won their division?
Stan: Denial. If the Big 12 style works that would mean a lot. They're converting how the SEC plays football. This is basically a Big 12 team going to play a SEC team.

- Only 2 minutes left for the other two games because Stan talks so rough ridin' much. Do the Jayhawks have a chance? Only reason they do is because it's 11 am and TCU doesn't want to score. TCU is like the Chiefs. Stan is talking more.

- Cats vs Baylor - RGIII came in here two years ago lighting it up, Kstate held them to 35 points and somehow won a game. Why does Baylor have so much success at home and suck so much on the road? Baylor has not played anybody good this year. K-State may not be good enough to stop Baylor but they're the first team to play them that has any brains at all.

- BITB will be at the Hen House baking his mom a cherry pie tomorrow because the Royals won more than 80 games.

The implication is being sound in our schemes, and I think that is potentially true. Hayes has been a solid DC and only once has an opponent scored more than their season PPG average against us. Of course, that was last year's Baylor team. On average teams score nearly 12 points less than their average PPG against Hayes led defenses at K-State.

How many snaps are they getting compared to their average? Not to say Hayes hasn't done a good job, but ball control has to be affecting that as much as the defense, no?

Yes, they go together well and part of the reason is the pace of the game. Hayes' defenses have been above average, but not great. Points per play this year is at .336, last year was .326. Yards per play this year is 5.0, last year was 5.2.

Our time of possession percentage for this season 53.8% and 53.4% last year.

Also, currently Baylor is running 84 plays per game on average and last year was the same. They ran 81 plays against us last year.

The Cats are running 67.5 plays per game, 65.5 last year. Last year against Baylor we ran 82.

Also of note, last year against Baylor we only had 76 yards rushing and only 2.5 yards per carry. Besides turnovers, how well K-State can run the ball will play a big factor in this game.

TCU (if not earlier), Baylor and Oregon began and continued the exposure of our offensive line, lack of overall athleticism, and unimaginative scheming.    That has carried forward into this year, only worse with less experience at the QB position.

610 morning guy is Bob Fescoe.  He used to be on 810 mornings with SSJ until they fired him and he moved to STL.  Now he's back hosting the 610 morning.  He is rough ridin' terrible.  He's an admitted KU homer and just rolls with it.  Gets away with having absolutely no objectivity because 610 is the "home of the jayhawks."

i would rather have danny and his incessant adorable negative eeyore act, or petro's way too in depth talk of "arms" and "bats" and "low-T centers" and "robert brogdon" and "right you are".

also, other than their obsession with boobs and stuff, SSJ and Nate are pretty great combo imo

He hit all the bullet points that were in that article about him whining yesterday. Best part is when he called Bill Maas a "known drug user", or something like that, to try and strengthen his case. I'd probably do lots of drugs as well if I had to hang out with Kevin Keitzman every day.

They are the most enjoyable show between all of 810's and 610's, imo.

That said, I have no idea why anyone listens to Petro.

I used to listen to 810 only when it came to talk radio.  Took the summer off, and now trying to come back I wonder how I ever did that.  Petro and KK both just remind me of listening to my two bro's pick and bitch at each other about something that you may used to care about but don't now because they have ruined it.

Mizzou is a perfect example of why I can't stand BITB.  For the past 18 months, he destroyed MIZ and JHarry's face about the SEC move.  How Columbia was about to become the Walking Dead. yadayadayada.  Now, he's the biggest MIZ fan in the world.  water under the bridge.  but, if anybody ever calls him on the carpet, he'll feverishly deny that he ever said any of those things about MIZ.  just own it and move on, call yourself a moron, eat your pie, and move on to the next topic.

And, yeah, every other 810 segment is better than its 610 counterpart.  Except for the afternoon.

Every 610 show is awful.  Just brutally terrible.  If you like a 610 show you need to reevaluate your life and determine what type of person you want to be.

Petro is the absolute worst, but I can't blame him for knowing his audience and catering to them. Keitz is obvs a lazy pos but at least he's a boss about it. His disdain for Sams tho has finally made me completely quit listening to him. I genuinely hate that I let that get to me like it has. but it did.

Yup! Can confirm. They're ratings are in the cellar. They're lucky they have the Royals and 98.9 the rock at Entercom. They float eachother a boat.

He doesn't hate Sams, dumbass. He wants you to think that, to keep listening and call in and dispute him about it. As for Petro, you might not be up to speed on his sports knowledge, so that probably sets you back as a listener. Listening to a bunch of herp a derp on 610 might equate to your intelligance level. So, I'm happy you found your guys. :D

I switch over to 610 only if 810, 980, and 710 - yes, even 710 - are all running ads, and even then I sometimes just switch back to ads. I don't know why the voices of the 610 afternoon guys annoy me so much, but holy crap they annoy the crap out of me.

They come off as non-perfessional. We all know it. I think Petro and the Parkins/CDot show are the best ones in KC. BITB used to be must listen, but since K-State football isn't in the top 10 he never talks about us. Mizzou being good has really killed talk radio this fall since nobody cares about SEC teams or Pinkel's stupid interviews. They've all cut way back on Big 12 talk this fall. But now KU is ramping up so that will be 50% of the content with Chiefs the other 50%.

Of course 610 is much more of the national formula for sports talk--which means almost exclusively talking about the local NFL team. I like the banter between Parkins and Harrison, but get tired of Chiefs breakdown after about 40 minutes. I guess I like Soren because he has the best guests and Kurtis is pretty cool with his Useless Info. SSJ and Nate are good too, although too early for me, and I'll go back and listen to their interviews if it's a good guest like Gary Barnett.

As for BITB, I think Greg Hall did a service to the community with that article. I listened to the whole thing live and I was like what the eff? The way he treats guests just really grates on me sometimes. At least Stan can hold his own with BITB when he starts trying to poke at him and talk over him.

I never listen to Fescoe. I follow him on twitter for the lols.

a. BITB means nothing he says about Mizzou and you're letting him win.
b.You'll only get pro talk from 610, cause they know absolutely nothing about college football and will never travel there cause they wait till bball season.
c. Greg Hall calls everyone out in sports media. He's got a great blog that has worked out to his favor, where no one can point him out. However, he calls everyone out, cause he has nothing to write about.

:D Younger generations like 610. My old man Cain and I can listen to Petro own dumbasses and listen to BITB troll all day.

Own dumbasses? Is this the same Petro that still doesn't know that UMass is an FBS school? I don't listen to his pro sports segments because I don't give two shits about the royals and chiefs, but I can tell you he doesn't know jack krap about cbb and cfb.

Yeah, I enjoy listening to Petro talk about pro sports, because I DO care about the Royals and the Chiefs, but you're right on with his knowledge of college sports. He has a hard time predicting/explaining college sports, because the biggest sample size of stats you will get with any of the players is really only three years at most. He tries to understand college athletics through a professional lens, and it has never really worked out for him. Since he doesn't understand the game, he leans on his gambling experience to try and predict outcomes. It doesn't work very well.

To his credit, UMass switched over less than 3 years ago. It's better than the young dorks on 610 who can't even point Manhattan out on a map. My time there they went to Mizzou, KU, Chiefs, etc. Why? They hate K-State and their open about it. So much for non bias sports talk.

Binkley sounds fat and very cigarette-y. Parkins pronounces "s" sounds like "sh" sounds, which i cannot abide. Carrington harrison's voice (or whatever his name is) sounds exactly like Ryan Wallace, which i also don't like. Fescoe says "right now" about 70,000 times per show, and Jaaaaaash Klinger is very butt hurt and whiny about everything. also, those two have no clue what the phrase "was it worth it?" means, because they use it in absolutely asinine ways. the last time i heard them, Fescoe was like "do you know what the first thing i thought of when i heard that olivia wilde was pregnant? wow how lucky is jason sudeikis right now?" wooo-oooof.

petro says "ah" waaaaaaay too much. i hate the way he says "bob glauber" and "ah" and "robert brogdon" and "ah" and "bats" and "ah" and "arms" but he is pretty smart with baseball and i think his guests are the best.

BITB has his moments still (remember the nebraska rant in '10?)  but he is pretty insufferable and more often than not, he is completely wrong although would never admit to it. also factor in the racin boys and the most commercial time per hour on planet earth, and no thank you is my reponse. i love danny though. what a curmudgeon.

SSJ/Nate are becoming far and away my faves. they keep it light and talk about everything, and SSJ allows Nate/Jake to talk soccer because he knows nothing. and gottlieb in the afternoon is great.

Lastly, Gottlieb can't help but talk about his kids and raising them, no one wants to hear about your kids or pets , it's a fact.

Border Patrol in the morning.  38 the spot TV version is weird though.

I enjoy Cdot and Parkins in the afternoon.  Maybe they fit my demographic WS08?  They do a good job of mixing things up and engaging the audience with twitter.  Their Bill Maas segment is usually pretty good.

Fescoe is terrible in the morning.  Annoying how he always goes into commercial break(after i switch over from 810 because of commercial) trying to sell you on something great that is going to be on after the break.  Normally its a topic most people dont care about or its something you already know.  Not surprising his ratings are crap.

"right you are, doug.  right you are."  I like Petro's guests, but he's a complete dork.  They all are.  He's now got a segment on one of the local stations where he breaks down fantasy football with some other dork.  I mean, jfc, man, have some self respect.  We all like FF, but isn't something that needs "expert analysis."  And then, stump the chumps.     I want to strangle Pete Enich's grumpy, old smartass.  Petro and Kurtis Seaboldt are also both total fatasses.  No offense.

I think 1620 in Omaha has one. It's what I listen to. Also, any station that plays the NU games will also usually play the NU postgame show and call in show. the call in portion is must listen to radio. so try to locate that if possible.

The Border Patrol has been terrible radio ever since they got on TV.  I haven't watch the TV show.

It's like they turn into retards when the camera turns on.  Also, Nate is such a pussy.

That Schwartz guy just copies everything that Steven St. John says.  It's so awkward.

Jake is a brainless mouth breather.

Steven St. John is a real talent.  A pleasure to listen to.

I remember listening to one of these way back in the day after Roberson ran for 200+ yards against them. It was very entertaining; even better because at that point Huskers still considered themselves one of the Top 5 programs in the country.

I remember when KK would have his "old pal Rosey" "one of the good guys" on 810 to break down the Huskers (hint: they didn't have any weaknesses when Rose was calling their games.) I doubt Sharpe respects KK enough to go on his show.

Hey guyz, ben ji chiming in here. I'm not a devoted listener, usually just while I am in the car on the way to work.

Hate fescoe...Just terrible. 810 morning show is alright but nothing great.

Petro has great guests and is alright, the 610 show is decent as well but not as good as border patrol.

I only listen to the afternoon shows on my way home at 5pm so my choices are

1. KK talking to some shitty guest(herm/trent green/mitch/pinkel)
2. 610 Boys talking chefs

Love the 610 boys chemistry, when they had jp pearson join it totally threw everything off, glad to see him leave. I would give them a slight edge over KK unless he is on a rant and trolling peeps.

I actually did listen to one of those shows.  I was on the road for my very lucrative career  :kstategrad: and it was either Mitch or Hawk Talk with Bill Self at the Salty Iquana.  Sadly, I almost didn't choose Mitch.

Logically, the show was being broadcast from the Gaslight Grill - against the backdrop of the smooth clarinet of Lynn Zimmer and the Jazz Band.

this is a weird opinion for me to understand. i guess you have to be small town kansan to think it, but, my parents went to a non-power conference university, so they didn't GAF about athletics there. however i did not miss a chiefs game my entire childhood and my dad's mood varied tremendously based on if the chiefs won or not. i never GAF about a college game until i thought the '03 OU beatdown was awesome. Why is it weird for fans to be superfans of NFL teams?

I didn't mean all NFL fans are weird. Plenty of diehards are pretty normal. But the superfans, like the ones that go to the Chiefs' Kingdom show, are a strange group of people. Fans that dress up in weird stuff for every game, etc.

Growing up in KC during the 90's I always assumed that the chefs season ticket base was made up of 75% poors who bought chefs season tickets instead of going on vacation....like their vacation was tailgating and going to 8 games a year.

I now know this is no longer the case but I do feel like it has some merit behind it.

there is absolutely truth to this the farther/less affluent/educated you get from KC.  i know plenty of people who have no business being a season ticket holder financially, pool tickets, etc and it truly is a "vacation" they plan for to go to KC.  if it makes them happy then more power to them, but to me it comes off kinda depressing.

I can only compare KSU, KU, and MU fans to Chiefs fans, because that's all I've really witnessed.  I'm sure in other areas with no NFL teams, Oklahoma, Nebraska, SEC country, there are probably a lot more similarities.

But a KSU, KU, MU crowd is night and day different than a Chiefs crowd.  And anybody who's witnessed both sides would agree.  At the most basic level, local college games are family oriented and Chiefs games are not.  which is perfectly fine.  but, it is what it is.  completely different atmospheres made up of very different people.

Whoa, I think there is confusion here. I don't think the majority of NFL fans are weird, but I do think the extreme NFL fans that dress up and go to shows like Mitch's can be quite strange. JMHO.

I have no problem with the majority of people that grew up/live in NFL cities and are NFL diehards. That seems pretty normal.

Hey, look at all the small town Kansans who think it's weird to have NFL (most popular sport in the country) tickets but not weird to drive to Manhattan for all the K-State games, donate to the Ahearn fund and post thousands of times on goEMAW.com

Okay. Now do the LHC Bill Snyder / oscar Weber / goPOW pregame shows.

Dressing up, I agree, although there are a handful of students doing it at every game too.

You can get away with  pretty much anything when you're a kid.  But there comes a time where you have to sit down look yourself in the mirrior and decide what type of person you want to be.  Once you make that decision there is no turnning back.

Its strange that two elites like mocat and 8man aren't understanding what's being said here. We know these people exists seems weird to be butthurt about acknowledging their existence, if you don't fit the category why get mad?

Of course the NFL superfan is generally a lower class and less educaated fan. Are there any college schools or leagues that have the fan violence issue that the NFL does? And no alcohol in the stadium is notthe issue because these people fighting and killing other fans are getting drunk in the lot, just like in college. So ask yourself, why are there so many fights at NFL games?

The NFL superfan is generally, but not always, a super-townie.  The biggest fans are usually people that grew up there and never left.  In addition, as MiR said, they are less educated than college fans.

Do NFL fans travel a lot for away games?  That is something that I don't think transfers from college to pros.  Probably too difficult to get the time off at the factory to travel for away NFL games, I guess.

I don't think so. My moms side is pretty bad (like living under rocks in the flint hills), but my dads side is the complete opposite. My parents had my brother when they were 17, they had me 5 years later, I think they were just trying to make me happy with what they had. :dunno:

I've been to Lambeau, and lived in Wisconsin for a short time.

I never saw people get dressed up in the crazy costumes, but they go all out with the beads and crap....they treat the games like they are a mardi gras or new years type event.  Even at bars you'll see people with all kinds of party beads on and stuff.

Also, there are TONS of guys that were those animal pelt hats to the games.  They are EVERYWHERE

I never listen to this besides some of the clips that get posted here, but that was absolutely hilarious today. Jack kept trying to change the subject to try to talk up Missouri and BITB was straight up like, "no, you're answering something different. I want you to answer my question". And the BITB would make him admit to something like the fact that it was dumb to have wanted Pinkel fired because he's the best Missouri is ever going to get, to which Jack would (much later) be like, "Just say it Kevin, Missouri won the division this year" and BITB would be like "well, yeah, that's a fact. Are you making me admit a fact?"

Overall it was hilarious that Jack walked into a hornet nest, and these hornets had a planned attack ready to go for the second he walked it. And he kept getting overly emotional and trying to have a comeback but it never made sense.

KU has Beems. We have Fanning. Mizzou has Jack Harry.

I was at the A's game Saturday night and there was a hetero couple going at it right behind us just after the walk-off win and before the fireworks and I laughed out loud, like a belly laugh when it was pointed out to me. But the photos made the Sam kiss seem like they were making out when it was just a quick peck. Not like this couple I saw at the game sucking face.

2. Baylor is playing sketti brains and they are awful for it. WHERE'S THE [email protected]?!?!?

An article today says Petty still has headaches, but they're getting smaller and smaller each time.

I mean, Jesus Christ, it's Tuesday and you're expecting him to play a football game in 5 days.  He's still experiencing the impact of a concussion...and he's practicing.

I honestly don't understand what is going through their mind.  This is almost criminal.

Art Briles is a Sub-Human Monster.   I bet Briles goes all Brady Hoke during practice and doesn't even notice poor Bryce staggering around in a sketti brained stupor.

It's basically the equivalent of that Varsity Blues scene with the shot and the guys knee. Except nobody is protesting and saying they won't play, and the shot is going directly in Petty's head.

That's how Baylor does it. Disgusting.

He is treading very close to the "my right to hate gay people is equal to their right to be gay!" territory.

He is pandering to his local audience

He definitely has a right to hate gay people. But other people have the right to shun him from society for that and write and say mean things about him, heckle him in public, etc.

I think you know nobody else would drive rabid squawk ratings like I would, so at least give me that. I’d even sprinkle in little squawk stats about their players in the league averaging 3 ppg and how are they still there? A huge bust segment from 5-5:15 and the ratings would absolutely BOOM! Squawks go crazy for that kind of stuff. Amazing radio if you ask me. I’d let beems have his own phone to call into too.

Listen, he’s the best guy in town (radio wise) and I hope management restricts him a bit from a few of his dumb crap segments. He’s going to kill 610’s ratings. This was a great move. Especially when the other guys are talking about their sexual partners on 610 from 10-2.

i’m pretty sure he was fired for cause which would eliminate any $ responsibility 810 has for voiding his contract.
ya he’s part owner but only 6% and he’d only get money from that through a quarterly distribution or if they bought him out, which is what I would expect to happen.

i doubt he’s collecting a paycheck

I do. Just like the ones in I-OH-Way

In the morning you face your lounge to the East and watch the sun rise over the ocean.
Then in the late afternoon/evening, you turn your lounge 180 degrees to the West and watch the sun set over the ocean.

Only $150,000.00 per running foot.  :runaway:

True story:  When we sold our farm, Johnny Dare was really interested in buying it, came out to look at it several times.  As nice a person as you'll ever meet.  What endeared Johnny Dare to me was that every time he came out to look at the property, he would make sure my 5yo son was coming with us, and made a point of talking to him.  He did slip with language occasionally--one time when we walked up a series of hills in the pasture and he got winded, Dare said he "didn't smoke enough f*cking cigarettes".
