Pretty close.

oh crap kat kid :-(

I don't know guys.
If your point is that Cruz looks like, and his voice sounds like, a guy straight out of central casting for "evil conservative" - I'd agree with you. So does Rand Paul, btw.
But I'm not seeing any evidence that Cruz is any more a sociopath than many politicians, including Barack Obama.

It's the eyes. There is evil in them eyes.

If I could just take any candidate and make them president, I would choose Cruz. He is the smartest and most principled conservative on the stage.
what metric are you working with here? he definitely thinks he is smarter than you, me and everybody, but is there any data that supports this? i think he might be a dunning-kruger domer.

Smart people aren't anti-science. Maybe that is just an act, though.

dont clerks for judges just manually google crap for 80 hours a week

Dlew12, there are several intervals between the smartest guy in a group and the dumbest

I feel like politics suck because of threads like this.
Nobody running for president is a sociopath or dumb. They all have their hearts in the right place and genuinely want to make a positive impact in this country and the world. We can HUR HUR HUR it up because this is a message board and that's fun, but let's try and be a little better each day.

Ted Bundy was also a sociopath :th_twocents:

Correct. But smart people don't clerk for the Supreme Court, either. Really smart people do.
The libtards will disagree with Cruz's ideology, just as I would disagree with that of the liberal SC Justices and their clerks, but I would not disagree that they are really, really smart people. Cruz was also a debate champion at Princeton. He then became the Solicitor General for the State of Texas (the guy who argues before the Supreme Court) before becoming a Senator at the age of 42.
So yes, he is the smartest person in the GOP field. That's doesn't make him likable or electable - his lack of warmth, physical appearance, and tone of voice when speechifying are major weaknesses - but it sure doesn't mean he's dumb or a sociopath. Good grief.
-

Right. But there are plenty of other lawyers running for president -- they didn't clerk for the Supreme Court, and it's not because they turned down the opportunity.
Criticize Cruz all you want for his views or pandering or sinister intentions or for being out of touch or whatever, but the dude has an incredibly high aptitude.

I'm happy they're all doing this now. It's become obvious it doesn't matter how nice they are to the media, they still get treated poorly, so they may as well call them on it.

The parts of the debate I watched were a joke, and they were correct to call out the "moderators". I heard the RNC pulled their future debate on NBC.

in cruz's defense i'm sure the behind the scenes of every candidate's ads are super weird.
but also cruz is the weirdest of all of them imo so this is probably as good as it gets
-
Everything I have seen him do is awkward. He is also, by far, the ugliest person in his family. Like, could be adopted because it doesn't make sense ugly.
-
I want to see the out takes that a Hillary, Bill, and Chelsey campaign commercial would generate!

Oh man! Yes please.

that's fantastic. i think i want one for all the candidates. at least all the slightly interesting candidates.
does his family call him dick? his daughter thanking god for her puppy was super cute.
-
him haranguing his mother about telling some personal story supports him being a sociopath, i think.
-
So turns out making a campaign ad with you family of non-politicians can lead to some pretty awkward footage, especially when a news outlet makes a greatest hits montage of the most awkward moments. Actually, that seems pretty normal.
The most interesting thing I learned about this is that campaigns make this raw footage available so pacs can legally use it. Unfortunately, I'm sure the Clinton team would rather just break the law than allow any rough cut footage to leak. Gotta hide the wires.
I want to see Rubio's next.

I also find that the most interesting part about this. What I find wholly uninteresting and unsurprising is that you glossed over this as something normal and assume hilz is breaking the law when in this case it appears as if ol' ted is sticking his head through a loophole.
-
Rubios is probably the least awkward
-
Are any words even spoken during carson behind the scenes?
-
Are there any politicians who are not sociopathic? Seems like a prerequisite

He is too ugly to ever win. I want Mitt back

I bet he's just rapping Tupac lyrics between every take.

This square headed thin lipped freak just came on Hannity talking about how Obama's ISIS air strike policy is a joke because he isn't bombing enough. He said we should bomb like we did during the Gulf War he also says that he didn't intend to say we should carpet bomb the entire area and kill civilians but we should bomb targets. Does that stupid sonofabitch know there were nearly 4,000 civilian deaths in six months in Iraq during the Gulf War? And if he wants to just hit strategic targets how in the hell is that different than what we're doing now? How does anyone take this freak show seriously?
-
Ted being Ted. A no go, IMHO.

I think he knows all of that but also knows that the pubbie primary voters demand him say carpet bomb'em
-
Cruz acknowledged the use of the term "carpet bomb" was a mistake, because it was. That term has a specific meaning - indiscriminate destruction. He was trying to make the point that we should be dramatically increasing our air strikes, and I happen to agree with him on that. Yes, this means that more civilians will die - that especially tends to happen when the enemy deliberately hides among the civilian population. That doesn't mean it isn't necessary to weaken ISIS.
-
Killing civilians seems like a pretty good way to make others interested in terrorist resistance against ppl killing innocent ppl.
-

Yes, fighting the terrorists is what the terrorists want! :runaway: Again, some civilian deaths are inevitable. War, and particularly these types of wars where the enemy deliberately hids among civilians, requires a balancing between inflicting maximum damage on the enemy and keeping civilian casualties as low as possible. In my opinion, Obama has erred much too far towards avoiding civilian casualties, to the point that his air campaign has been relatively ineffective.
-
What if those civilians include unborn babies, you ghoul

You can't have it both ways. Some republicans, and I realize that this is mostly rhetoric and that frustrates me, act as if there are massive complexes of ISIS facilities in suburbs of these places. So if you want to do what the republican candidates say we should be doing you are going to have an overwhelming number of civilian casualties. Even in Iraq, when Saddam did have stand alone military complexes that we targeted, we still killed 4000 people in six months. It's accepted that the ISIS infrastructure is not nearly as organized and much more spread throughout the general populace. So then you're left with this pumpkin headed bitch saying on multiple occasions that he would carpet bomb this region and find out if sand glows in the dark, then when pressed on it backtracks, when that's exactly what his policy proposes. If Cruz is as smart as pubs say he is he has to know that dropping thousands of bombs on Raqqa would result in tens of thousands of civilian casualties and would likely result in an entire region with Russian support galvanizing against us and we certainly would not have the support of anyone else other than Israel. So does Cruz not know this or is he pandering to the majority of his voting base that are too stupid and/or filled with blind hate for brown people to take 10 minutes to read?

Ok. Take a breath. Balance. It's about balance. I don't think Obama's balance is working very well.

It doesn't appear so but my frustration stems from the fact that no one is willing to say what the right thing is and it's that this is a new threat and we don't quite know how to go about dealing with this without alienating some partners in the middle east and potentially creating more enemies. The prudent thing to do is to for now keep hitting targets that we know exists and just give the intelligence time to work before we can do more, but the sad state of American politics does not suffer prudence and patience. Jeb has essentially acknowledged this, so has Lindsey Graham but who cares. I'm fairly sure Marco, Grimace, Carly, Kasich, and Rand all know it too but are too big of cowards to admit it. BTW if this was a republican administration in an election year I'm certain that the republicans and a few democrats would still do the same thing.
-
if you want more bombs, you need more targets. if you want more targets, you need people on the ground identifying those targets. you can't see everything from a satellite. if someone is talking about increasing the bombing without sending ground forces, they're either engaging in political theatre or lying.
-
How do you fight a religious idea without killing all those that relate to it or are a small step away from relating to it? Do we want to do that? I don't think we do. The best thing we could do is get to the areas that ISIS hasn't gotten to yet, and make the ppl in those places not want ISIS in control. How we do that? No idea. I know mostly nothing about the daily culture, living conditions, etc of those in the middle east. I don't think we win against ISIS. The ppl of the Middle East have to do it. We can help by improving their conditions to live in and thus remove discontent, or we can help in other ways, but bombing a city full of ppl isn't going to work. The surrounding states that haven't been taken over should have the lead role in this as they have the highest risk as of right now. We should be supporting those states.
Bombing is such a lazy response and a crutch of stupid pandering fuckface politicians.
-

 yep, not politically prudent to say that though, we gotta kill isis without sending our boys over there Obama could do it if he wasn't a total pussy

All politics are political theatre. Nothing is real. Nothing will change. Your passion would be put to much better use almost anywhere else.

Why Trump - and I think to maybe an even greater extent, Cruz - can probably beat Hillary: they'll bring a ton of angry folks to the polls who either don't usually vote or have voted Democrat in the past. If Hillary loses even a couple rust belt states like PA, OH, and MI, she's toast. Cruz might be better situated than Trump to both bring these folks into the fold and hold onto the "establishment" vote.

That is a lot of hopeful thinking. We don't even know yet if Trump can turn out primary voters. The demographics for anyone in the Republican field beating Hillary are redic bad.
Let's say Hillary loses mean -15 is there any doubt that she outperforms any Republican candidate in the field by at least 15-20 points? This election is not interesting in the least.

I'm not talking about the primaries. I agree that Trump's support may not materialize at the primaries, which is what the article suggests.
As for the general, I think Hillary will perform worse than the other Democrats in the rust belt states, and I believe a hard-liner on immigration enforcement will perform better than recent Republicans in this states. Combine this factors and a Trump or Cruz could very well win OH, PA, and perhaps Michigan, which could very well decide the election.

Let's say Hillary loses mean -15 is there any doubt that she outperforms any Republican candidate in the field by at least 15-20 points? This election is not interesting in the least.

Rubio and Cruz are both polling ahead of clinton, which is saying something at this juncture
Uh nope, http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/2016_presidential_race.html

Cruz's religious extremism is probably the most endearing thing about him.
-
Why Trump - and I think to maybe an even greater extent, Cruz - can probably beat Hillary: they'll bring a ton of angry folks to the polls who either don't usually vote or have voted Democrat in the past. If Hillary loses even a couple rust belt states like PA, OH, and MI, she's toast. Cruz might be better situated than Trump to both bring these folks into the fold and hold onto the "establishment" vote.

I see Clinton tied with Cruz and behind Rubio but within the margin of error. I see Bernie inside of the margin of error with Rubio but beating Cruz.
-
I see Clinton tied or losing to candidates despite having way way way more name recognition at this point.
-
I'm not a MG fan, I will have a hard time pulling the lever for her. In fact, I probably won't vote for her. But living in Texas, it doesn't even matter if I vote or not. So, there's that.
-

So. Is this american idol? The person with the greatest name recognition is winning the republican polls but losing to both democrat candidates. Who cares?

I don't recall typing recent 4-poll averaging ahead of clinton, or sanders.

I'm simply making an observation that Clinton is losing or in a dead heat with several GOP candidates despite having far greater name recognition.
A great many people, maybe most, don't even pay attention to politics until a few weeks before the presidential elections. But everybody knows who Hillary Clinton is, and most already have an opinion of her. Thus, she has very little upside, or room for improvement. And her negatives are atrocious. By contrast, candidates such as Cruz and Rubio have far lower name recognition at this point and far more upside. Running even at this point in the race against candidates very few people know anything about should be very concerning to Democrats.
-

Yes, Obama won the "cool" vote in 2012. Had nothing to do with his record.

Are you maintaining the most established candidate should win?
-
i don't think even Hillary Clinton (v recognizable name) supporters would describe her as "cool".
-
however if she IRL had some dope A51 info that would be pretty cool

This is why Cruz (or Trump, but please don't let it be Trump) can win rust belt states against Clinton. There is a bipartisan desire among the electorate for stronger border enforcement.

That's cute but it won't play in the rust belt. How many presidential elections do republicans have to get run in before they understand these social issues are killing them? You think Joe in Toledo gives two shits about the Rio Grande? The ones that do are already republican voters anyway. Your people need to find new voters in those states and using illegal aliens as a scare tactic isn't going to do it if the democrats can convince voters that republican policy is pushing American jobs the other way over the border. Your party can't agree on immigration reform, maybe he should take a rough ridin' hint and leave it alone for now, he's vulnerable there anyway.

You're getting awfully touchy about this. We'll just have to disagree. I think jobs and the economy are far more important to most voters than social issues. And I think there is real (and justified) fear among "blue collar" voters about immigration killing jobs and driving down wages.
I also think working class voters don't particularly want a woman president - especially Hillary. Despite her being the overwhelming favorite for the nomination, many key unions have withheld their endorsements. Now of course she'll ultimately get them, but the fact that they're so reticent is telling.
Combine these two factors, and it is quite likely that Hillary will do worse in rust belt states than Barack Obama did. If you just want to cover your ears and shout curse words, go for it.
-
Also Hillary is a pathalogical liar and that won't go over well with blue collar people who actually have values as Republicans continue/increase their efforts in making sure everyone is aware of how much she will look you in the eye and blatantly lie.
-

That doesn't make her particularly unique with regard to presidential politics

War mongering pathological liars are okay in politics . . . as long as they're Democrats.
yeah, we should get back to small government Reaganism where we only destabilized countries and propped up dictators in our hemisphere!

Has the Obama (particularly Hillary) Administration been involved in propping up Theological Dictatorships and meddling in Central American and South American politics? But I digress.
I don't recall saying what Reagan et. al did was good, but thanks for the reaching back into the dusty chapters of the Capt. Obvious playbook Whack-A-Doodle.

I guess from that prism of history, the Gipper did a little meddling but wasn't big on regime change, nor really into bombing countries into submission in order to break them up.

Pro tip: 99% of people here you think are on the "left" probably don't like Hilrod and would only vote *for* her by voting against the 'Pub candidate. That doesn't mean we support her, but are scared to death of what you want in exchange.

What I want?
Try making sense . . . for once.
Ted Cruz is positively tame compared to what Hillary has already done, and yet is now once again trying to fool the usual Dem Lemmings and others into believing she never did any of the stuff. Only in Dem Lemming world could Hillary Clinton stand up at a Dem debate and extol her Libyan policy (just one example) and not get absolutely excoriated in every single corner of the political sphere in which she inhabits.
-
Edna, you've already been nominated to the Libtard HOF once today, for good reason. You should take a time out.

I probably won't even vote. Maybe if I move to the Missouri side. #bern gets it no matter what tho

More Whack-a-Doodle strawmen. Benghazi was just a symptom of the cancer that Hillary created. I don't even think about Benghazi outside of the fact that Hillary et. al. were trying to cover up for their recruitment of fighters for Syria and shipping Libyan Army weapons to Syria.
I believe the last government shutdown occurred under Obama, and the credit downgrade happened under Obama . . . an awful president that sadly "hired" Hillary to integrate even worse foreign policy.

Dax do you really believe that Hilrod created that climate? I mean, no "pit"-ing....this is an American tradition to do this kind of bullshit. From El Salvador, Hell Mexico under Wilson, to Beirut and now Benghazi this is nothing new, yet you act like Hillary is the epsicenter of all of this.

Dax is rough ridin' exhausting, I have no idea how beems was able to go post for post with that parrot for many many pages at a time. I can't even get through even one of those posts, I can't imagine too many people take the time of reading the same thing over and over again.

  In crazy Edna-land, this is a "tap out:"
Yeah those are arguably "lawless" acts which are debateable. You could mildly claim he wasn't acting in a constitutional manner since he isn't upholding his oath the way you want him to, but you still failed to list anything that smacked against the constitution itself. If you really want to educate yourself read up on Jackson and get back to me when Obama tells the SCOTUS to stuff it and then proceeds to destroy a civilization.
 I'm going to nominate this one for the Libtard HOF. Here's the thing, silly, the President's duty to faithfully execute the laws isn't in his oath - it's in the Constitution. Article II Section 3: "He shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed." He takes an oath, written verbatim in the Constitution, to faithfully execute his office. It is the Constitution that establishes the separation of powers between the Legislature, Executive, and Judiciary. When Obama does not take care that the laws are faithfully executed or creates his own laws unilaterally - as he has in the examples presented above - he is being unconstitutional.
And  at reaching all the back to Andrew Jackson!
Another post of misdirection and obfuscation. I'll take it as your tap out.

Literally no one on this forum has said that Dax, I don't know why you keep bringing it up. You still haven't directly answered the question although you kinda hedged towards it.

I clearly answered your rhetorical question.
Hillary's idiotic decisions have and will bring danger and terrorism to the Homeland on an unprecedented level.
-
LOL, as if terrorists give a crap about who is president, history has definitely dictated that certain presidents have been a deterrent to a wackjob wanting to create havoc
You sound like America's favorite disingenuous dumb eff, Ted Cruz, blaming Hilz and Obama for a H Bomb test that North Korea didn't do.

You asked a question you already know the answer to, but only an idiot would believe there's no differences. In Libya, we went and blew the place up and then left. The massive issues this has created on both a regional and global level speak for themselves. In Syria, we've purposely destabilized the entrenched regime, and provided aide and material support to people who wish to both act in a regional and global manner against U.S. interests, and created a power vacuum that now feeds the exportation of terrorism on a global basis from entities who are not political actors, but theocratic actors.
Spare us the Capt. Obvious "everybody has done it" bullshit.

Dax is absolutely right. Obama and MG and Kerry are totally to blame for causing a cauldron of chaos to develop in the Mideast that let ISIS develop. When this pissadent didn't bomb the ISIS oil wells because he thought the environment was more important than protecting America, he proved he is a weak excuse for a commander.

Interesting question. I do it because it is his given his name and his father is on record saying he's upset that his son rejected his given name. Do I wish he wasn't running away from his Latino heritage, hell yes, and his father feels the same way. If calling that man by his given name makes me sound like a bigot accusing a Christian of being a Muslim then oh well.

i was not implying that you were, just wondering why. i don't pay enough attention to him to know that he is running away from his heritage. it's ironic because if he was a (D) instead of (R) there would be herp derps calling him Rafael everywhere, but for a different reason.

Terry Branstad is absolutely Iowa. There is good reason why Branstad has been the governor of Iowa longer than any governor of any state in the history of this country. Anyway ethanol is crap and the subsidies are a colossal waste of money.

He's going to win some states, he's pretty much the exclusive choice for the religious right. He'll at least get South Carolina.

Listen to today's epi of This American Life . I don't think ppl realize the attraction power of trump to the far right.
-
The far right and the religious right aren't quite the same. I think of the Ammon Bundy's of the world when I think far right.
-
Listen to today's epi of This American Life . I don't think ppl realize the attraction power of trump to the far right.
Yes, it was fascinating.
-
Sure. however, the epi I mentioned was specific to the religious far right. It was about a popular evangelical radio host and his frustration with other evangelicals in this state(NC, iirc) and their love for trump. The story started off saying that he holds enough sway that politicians usually court him for his endorsement prior to running. Cruz did that and he was full on for Cruz. Then, over time, he was inundated with pro trump participation in his call in show and he couldn't/can't argue what he perceives as sense into his listeners. The guy is a Doctoral pastor and has thoughts about giving up his show because of this. He is pretty upset how twisted the populace is with trump and religion.
-
Hmmm, interesting I wonder if this is a regional phenomenon amongst the religious far right or a national one. For instance it seems like the Sammy fans in Kansas would be much more aligned with Cruz. Don't people know Trump is pro choice?
-
*was prochoice ;)
-
The radio pastor said that he thinks it is simply everyone's emotions taking control and their brains justifying the rest. I agree. He said that the amt of anger that he is hearing is new and substantial. Trump is drawing that out and blinding everyone from their rational logical thoughts with their own emotional response. It is pretty amazing, imo.

There is plenty I don't like about Cruz, but this is just stupid. If I was being filmed all the time there would be plenty of times I would get caught with my kid not liking me much. Its got to be even worse with the amount of time he's gone. Anyone that has kids should see this as being completely a stupid thing.

Yeah, listening to that made me sad and pissed simultaneously. I wholly disagree that something like infidelity has anything to do with political office. The tabloid-like transition is the worst. I hated the reasoning given by the journalist interviewed for why the press made such a switch. How he said they all felt like they should have dug deeper and should have known and warned someone. How he made it sound like they were asleep at the wheel. I mean, the comparison of this to Watergate and Nixon's paranoia is outrageous. That is such bullshit. Dig deeper, as a journalist, and if anything important is there, report it. That doesn't include if he is a good husband, dad, son, etc. That is just a bullshit cop out to cover up the fact that they are doing it to sell more content. Honestly, this is the first Radiolab I have listened to that made me a little angry with Radiolab for presenting it all like this and not calling bullshit on that dumbass.

Agreed, and I think part of what made me uncomfortable about was Cruz's insistence in continuing the obviously staged moment. I remember being a pain because my Dad traveled a lot when I was growing up. Most parents would understand, but this moment just continued in a really weird way.

Yeah. If we had better boundaries about this we could have a great president like Colin Powell (family privacy I mean). It would be great if people kept this in the background if they are doing a good job. Oddly though I don't like Clinton for his lying simply because he was under oath. It's weird that the process got that far to begin with though.

To those not affected by a bias towards Rubio as I am, would that ad convince you not to vote for Rubio? Clever way to smear another candidate by using half truths and lies. What average American is going to put in the effort to do the research on whether that's how Floridians actually feel?
-
You just described every political ad ever.
-
It's not bad for a political ad. I don't doubt that some people are swayed by that stuff, although it makes me sad knowing that. :frown:
One of the best ads I have seen was actually for a Canadian election (I think the guy they were against is current PM anyway). It was a bunch of people sitting in a board room like they were a hiring committee and were talking about the guy and decided he just didn't have enough experience to be offered the job. Jeb could do something similar with Rubio, but Cruz couldn't (cause pot/kettle)

In a lot of movies that take place in the future there's two classes of people, citizens and everyone else. To become a Citizen you typically have to contribute something to society (e.g., enlist in the military to fight against aliens, devote your life to civil service, pay taxes, etc.). If you don't want to do whatever is required to be a citizen, no biggie, you just don't get to vote.
I used to think it was just an interesting, common, predictable sci fi thingy. Now I look at how stupid and useless many of the people are who vote, and how they rough ridin' register bums to vote and then absentee vote them, and it doesn't seem so far fetched.
If you contribute nothing to society, why should you get to vote? Why is it a birthright instead of something earned? I think if it had value it would have importance, and we wouldn't be in the predicament we're in today.

If you divide our federal budget by working age citizens you get an amount each person owes for our current level of government, if you can't afford to pay your share of our current level of gvmnt, I don't think it's unreasonable to say that you shouldn't be eligible to vote to increase it. :dunno:
-
Tying someone's right to vote to even a relatively low threshold of income is ridiculous.
We can't really call ourselves a democracy unless everyone has an opportunity to vote. I personally don't even agree with taking away a felon's right to vote.
That said, social media has made me aware of how dumb people can be and it is very scary. I don't know of a reasonable way to fix that, though.

That said, social media has made me aware of how dumb people can be and it is very scary. I don't know of a reasonable way to fix that, though.
You don't seem very familiar with the history of "democracy." Democracies throughout history have imposed restrictions on who can vote, with good reason. We (a republic, btw) have our own restrictions currently.
-
All of your guys want to increase military spending, btw.
So would you like it better if those folks couldn't vote to increase that if they couldn't pay their share?
No, it's a shitty idea either way.

Feels weird to have a conservative republican candidate beat up another candidate about how shitty his non English skills are. Didn't Romney last cycle want to make English the official language?

i loved it when rubio shoved cruz's spanish in his narrow fat face. i'm loving it even more when all these anglophones are giving bad translations of what cruz said and lolling at his accent (which was fine. not cuban, but fine).
the whole thing is fascinating political tactics as well. it a great question whether it helps or hurts cruz to speak spanish. and whether it helps or hurts rubio to show off that he does.

We do not technically have a democracy, we have a representative republic. This representative republic is increasingly undermined by powers delegated to bureaucracies. We don't vote on hardly anything.
I don't thinks it's in anyway unreasonable to only allow "stakeholders" the right to vote. Out society selected a representative republic as its form of government. It is free to change that form at any time. An increasingly larger segment of the voting population (which is already restricted by age, felon etc) does not participate in society, never has and never will. They simply reap the benefits of living in the country. Why should they, by birthright, be entitled to a say in who represents the people who fund or run the government? What is so abhorent about having to earn that right? If we want people to value and hold accountable the government that rules our society, there should be some effort or sacrifice put forward to earn the most basic right of participating in that process (ie, a stakeholder).
What the metric is, I don't know. $1 in taxes paid, some civil service, teach school, highway cleanup, I don't know. I just think the idea that you're alive so you get a vote is extremely antiquated given the current state of our government and society.

the smartest guy in the room ALWAYS corrects people about how the US government is technically a republic and not a democracy. It's very impressive.

I read a good article that discussed that this runs pretty deep in the hispanic community. There was a time when a lot of immigrants moved here and purposefully did not teach their children their cultural heritage in order for them to fit in. It seemed like the best idea at that time in our country. Now, there is a kind of snobbishness by those who kept their heritage. They tend to look down on those who can't speak their "native language" because it is a sign they have abandoned their heritage.
Whether or not that was Rubio's goal doesn't change that it brought that fight to the forefront. It most likely won't change a lot of voters minds, but it does show that you can't just group Rubio and Cruz together as the hispanic candidates. It shows that even in a small way, Rubio is more in touch with his heritage than Cruz is.

The idea you should have to earn the right to vote is a scary thought IMO. The biggest problem is that once you determine a certain standard should apply, there is very little stopping that standard from being ratcheted up to exclude more and more people. In fact, it's really not hard to imagine at all.
Say we've got 100 million folks who meet your proposed "right to vote" standards. What stops the top 70 million from saying, "my vote should count more than those people that are just barely hovering in the bottom few percent, let's raise the standards and cut out the bottom 30 million"? You could keep shaving off the bottom 10-40% in the same way until you are basically just left with an oligarchy.
You say our government is free to change its form at any time, but it could not do so democratically if you can remove people's right to vote by no fault of their own.
And FTR - I do think the no felons voting thing is BS.
-
right (i don't think it's in a small way, btw). but at the same time most republican primary voters are not hispanics of caribbean descent. i don't think mexicans, for example, look at or care how cuban rubio/cruz are in the same way that a cuban or even a puerto rican may.
and of course the vast majority of republican primary voters are not hispanic. many, perhaps a majority, of non-hispanic (assuredly, some hispanic voters may as well) voters may prefer than cruz is more melting pot and less salad bowl.

You're skipping the philosophical question and replacing it with conjecture.
Furthermore for one hundred years only white men could vote. Then society expanded the right to vote to men of color, then to women. The problem you're complaining of has existed and never come to fruition.
I want to know why you think someone who only reaps the rewards of society, without enduring any of the sacrifices, should be allowed to vote by birthright.

Because the policies of the country should be for the benefit of everyone, not just those who are determined to have "contributed."
I think as a practical matter, the freeloaders you are concerned with do not turn out to vote in substantial numbers anyway. However, the fact that they can vote still means something.

Again, conjecture. Im not talking about different rules for the voting and non-voting classes. That alone affords the necessary protections against your speculative abuses (interests are alligned). I'm just wondering why people who do not participate in society should be allowed to vote. That seems to undermine the system.

please define "participate in society" before we continue

I'll just take a step back here. Can you even call it a democracy or republic when there is no right to vote? What you are proposing is probably the most fundamental change you can make in a government, which is changing voting from a right to a privilege.
Once you make that change, you allow for the possibility that a small few people have 100% of the voice in government. Maybe it wouldn't actually happen, but just creating the possibility is abhorrent enough.
Even when only white adult males could vote, it was still considered a right. Never have we had a system where ability to vote was based on variable (and almost certainly arbitrary) factors.

This is more conjecture. Why would such a system necessarily involve a very few people? What is abhorrent about excluding non-particinats from participating? Why is voting a right?

not going to look it up, but i think i recall that voting was restricted to property owners at some point.

When the constitution was drafted there were no provisions as to who could and couldn't vote do it was left up to the states. Many states required you to be a white land owner to vote but there were exceptions. I believe in New Jersey women and feed slaves could earn the right to vote. The first federal provision on who could vote didn't come until after the civil war, the 15th amendment. Which was intended to give blacks the right to vote but obviously there was more work to be done there.

I recall hearing something similar, but I guess I always figured it was more of a defacto thing (like to prove identity) rather than an actual "show me your deed to a piece of property before you can cast your vote."
-

I feel like I'm dealing with a 5 year old who just keeps saying "why" (but also saying "that's just conjecture").
I'm saying it is per se problematic because it allows for a fundamentally non-democratic system. Sure, if the population got to decide who has a voice in government it could end up better, worse, or neutral compared to how things are today, but that is a different type of government than what we have. It is also one I think is far more capable of being abused, but you don't have to believe that to see my point.
-

i'm pretty sure it was more of a way to keep poor people from voting. mir obviously knows a lot about this period, perhaps he can clarify.

I'm not completely sure if that initially was the motivation or not. I think that is a slightly cynical view that the initial motive was to disenfranchise, but that very well may be the case. The poll tax era after the fifteenth amendment was clearly meant to disenfranchise after the pool of voters expanded.

I've asked you several times why you think voting should be a birthright, and likewise what is abhorrent about earning the right to vote, and every time you've responded with some slippery slope unfounded conjecture that if you had to earn the right to vote we'd end up with an oligarchy. Yet, as it stands today, everyone can vote and according to bern we're spiraling towards oligarchy.
-
Tapping out. I don't think I can say it any other way that would get you to understand why it is a problem to pick a socioeconomic status that is acceptable in order to have a voice in government.
-
i've pretty much convinced myself that cruz is going to get enough delegates to crown either trump or rubio. what is he going to want? trump, it seems to me, can only offer the vp or a cabinet position. rubio, through the party, can offer so much more. maybe cruz wants mcconnell's job? or senate support for whatever crazy ass crap cruz is going to want.
what a world.

No way Cruz wants majority (or minority) leader. He would get humiliated by his failure to reach any kind of agreement within the party or across the isle. He likes/needs to be an outsider. I'd be a little surprised if he got reelected to the Senate when his term is up honestly.

I could get behind this.

Some hayseed who has land on I70 next to the Paxico exit put up a giant Ted Cruz banner for the delight of all the passing motorists today. They used those large round bales stacked 2 high as a base for the banner supports. Because when people like Fake and Reno ran the South "contributing" to society excluded people of darker hues.

I hate to go all KSUW here but this election cycle has me a little sour on politifact. I'll read what they have to say but the conclusions they come up with are highly subjective. I'd also doubt any ratings system that has Hillary as the most truthful and Ben Carson as the biggest liar.

Bernie and Hillary are both career politicians. Bernie has been surprisingly consistent in his core positions while Hillary has been all over the map.

The mis-information many of you operate under is staggering...
The causes of Zadroga's death are under dispute. Gerard Breton, a pathologist of the Ocean County, New Jersey medical examiner's office, conducted an autopsy in April 2006, and he reported, "It is felt with a reasonable degree of medical certainty that the cause of death in this case was directly related to the 9/11 incident." This attribution made Zadroga, 34 years old at the time of his death, the first 9/11 responder whose death was directly linked with toxic Ground Zero substances. Breton's autopsy found what he described as "unidentified foreign materials" in Zadroga's lungs, which were identified by the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C. as talc, cellulose, calcium phosphate, and methacrylate plastic; However, the examination did not compare the particles found in his lungs with actual dust from the World Trade Center site.
The New York City Medical Examiners Office asserted in October 2007 that Zadroga's death was not related to his time at Ground Zero, with Chief Medical Examiner Charles Hirsch and another medical examiner signing a statement that "It is our unequivocal opinion, with certainty beyond doubt, that the foreign material in your son’s lungs did not get there as the result of inhaling dust at the World Trade Center or elsewhere". Hirsch concluded that Zadroga died from self-injection of ground drugs, with Hirsch finding severe scarring in his lungs that he determined was caused by cellulose and talc granulomas and stating (through a spokesperson) that "The lung disease he had was a consequence of injecting prescription drugs".
In response to the City Medical Examiner's autopsy results, Mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg stated "We wanted to have a hero, and there are plenty of heroes, it’s just in this case, science says this was not a hero" at remarks made after receiving an award from the Harvard School of Public Health, but backed away from his earlier characterization at a news conferences stating that "This was a great N.Y.P.D. officer who dedicated himself — put his life in harm’s way hundreds of times during his career — and you can use your own definition."

Hirsch's assessment runs counter to the first report, and a third assessment that was performed later by Michael Baden. even if that's correct, though, your rationale is "let's deny healthcare to all 9/11 first responders because the guy they named the bill after may have died from something else?" that's the hill you want to die on?

ha! it's essentially workers comp. when you work for a private company, the company pays that. when you work for the gov't, of course that money comes from us.
what this highlights is that Cruz doesn't care about first responders as much as he says he does. same way that republicans are eager to send young men and women off to war but don't want to pay for veteran's benefits.

"Having your back" means supporting what you do every day - something Obama strived to avoid doing on a daily basis.
Since when are we required to fund the families of people for any cause 75 years into the future?

I've now watched 11 GOP debates and I'm still waiting for Ted Cruz to actually answer the question asked and do so within the allotted time limit.
I don't like Cruz, but I respectfully disagree. He begins each answer with the somewhat related talking point he wants to get out and then follows up with an answer to the question. It's a pretty effective way to make your point and get a little extra time.
It's obvious what he's doing, but it's still better than some of the candidates who end up avoiding the questions altogether. I also can't knock candidates who go over time because the moderators don't enforce crap anyway. Being polite like Carson gets you killed in this context.

it's not mandatory spending, it's allocated funds, so why the eff are you caught up on the 75-year limit? if the money isn't all spent, the remainder will get rolled back into some other program. but i'll play a little logic game with you. let's say that a first responder was pregnant at the time. if the child has medical issues as a grown up on account of their mother's exposure, shouldn't that also be covered?
-
So if no one needs this money, why is a 75 year limit even an issue with 'lemy?

Actually, being a decent human being occurs when one stands-up for taxpayers and limits how much money is extorted from them for the seemingly unending causes that liberals try to foist upon them.
Virtue occurs when YOU decide to give of your own resources to aid another human in need, NOT in using government power to force other people to give their money for those causes.

Yeah, either MIR isn't actually watching these debates or he's not listening well enough. Cruz is actually one of the very best candidates when it comes to actually answering the question asked. He'll often start the answer on a different tangent but he almost always brings it home to answer the question that was asked. He is ridiculously good in the debate format.

The very earliest returns in Louisiana, which were substantially composed of votes cast before election day, showed Trump at 48 percent, Cruz at 23 percent, and Rubio at 20 percent. Now? It’s Trump 43, Cruz 34 and Rubio 14, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State. The differences suggest a major gap between early votes and election-day returns, with Cruz surging in the past couple of days at the expense of both Trump and Rubio.
-
Exactly. Cruz wins Kansas and Maine. Trump will hang on to win Louisiana and Kentucky, but he is fading fast and would have lost both states to "Crubio." While Crubio used to be a hypothetical, it is quickly becoming a reality as Rubio voters jump to Cruz earlier and in much greater numbers than expected. Very good night for Cruz. Very bad night for Trump.

Are you good at math? Trump will earn more delegates today than any other candidate, I'm sure the others would love for that "bad day."
-
Yea but Trump is not on pace to get the delegates he needs to avoid s brokered convention. That is as good as a loss for him.

Cruz won the day delegate count wise.

MIR, you're a Sanders supporter. Don't lecture me on "math." You're also wrong, but the number of delegates earned yesterday is beside the point. Trump still holds a significant lead in delegates and will increase that lead if he ekes out winner-take-all FL, but yesterday indicates that Trump is stalling whereas the anti-Trump is coalescing behind Cruz. Trump is still the favorite, but this race just got a lot more interesting.
-
Meh, both races remained status quo, winning Kansas and Nebraska is in no way a game changer. Did you miss the nite about Rick Santorum winning Kansas with 50% in 2012? Talk to me if trump and Clinton lose Michigan.

I actually don't think Cruz is that bad looking. Obviously he's not on Rubio's level but he's definitely better looking than Trump.

What? It looks like another very solid night for him. He's made the case this week that he's the only guy who can go toe to toe with Trump - and it looks like he can beat Trump or at least carry more delegates into the convention if Rubio and Kasich fold.
Meanwhile, except for the Deep South, Trump remains mired in the mid-30s.
-
What? It looks like another very solid night for him.
compared to rubio, great night. compared to trump, not great night.
-

Trump had a "great night" in one state. He's stalled in the mid-30s pretty much everywhere but the Deep South. The anti-Trump vote is still split three ways. But he's in real trouble of Rubio and Kasich drop out.
-

the only way both rubio and kasich drop out is if they both lose their home states. if they both lose their home states, trump is going to have a very sizable delegate lead.
i'm not sure if cruz's game is to hope kasich wins and then cut a deal with him or if he thinks he can still catch trump in a three-way race with kasich and trump. either way, he's not in great shape.

Trump will win FL, but Kasich is going to carry OH. Rubio will drop out after FL (and even if he doesn't, he's basically a nullity at that point). Kasich will cut a deal with Cruz to drop out after winning OH in exchange for VP. That's all Kasich is playing for at this point anyway. It's a win-win for Cruz and Kasich. Clears the field and makes for a formidable general election ticket. Cruz's firey conservatism to rally the base coupled with Kasich's ah shucks pragmatic rust belt governor schtick.
That leaves Trump in a two man race against Cruz, mired in the mid-30s, and well behind pace to reach enough delegates to secure the nomination. Which means Cruz heads to the convention with the most delegates (and in this scenario he still has an outside chance of securing enough delegates outright).
So yes, the way I see this playing out, Cruz and Rubio are right where they need to be tonight.
-
i'll believe in that scenario when i see it. what i've seen so far is a complete inability of republicans to coalesce against trump and a complete inability of anyone to predict where voters will fall to when their preferred candidate drops out (hello there resurgent rubio bestride a throng of former bushites).
the simplest, and thus most likely, outcome of gifting trump florida's 100ish delegates is that trump rides them to 1237.
-
as well as the fact that trump looks in better than 50/50 shape to win ohio.
-
As long as the Republicans can coalesce against Trump sometime before he gets 1237, they're in outstanding shape to deny him the nomination and all is right with the world.
-
The convention will be amaze

There is a huge division in the party and a lot of people on either side are going to be REALLY upset about the nomination. The nominee will either be a repulsive, self-interested outsider who does not share the party's values or else it will be someone essentially appointed by the party via disenfranchisement of the plurality. It will be fantastic!

Wouldn't a brokered convention be similar to a possible situation where Bernie wins more delegates but super delegates push Hillary over the edge?

Kasich has repeatedly from what I can tell say he isn't going to be a Vice President. I think he is going full brokered. Or maybe that is just a good bargaining position?

If Bernie wins the majority of pledged delegates the super delegates will change to Bernie. We have been over this already.

Rumors are swirling that Rubio's internal polling shows he will lose Florida badly, and he may suspend his campaign today or tomorrow. I think there's a good chance he does so, but I'm not at all sure he's going to cut a deal with Cruz. Again, he's just not worth much to Cruz at this point.

I really don't understand why Republicans refuse to get behind Trump. It seems they hate him more than Hillary. If I were a republican I'd go throw Ted Cruz in a swamp somewhere because Hillary will kick the ever loving crap out of him. There isn't a single independent or Reagan Democrat that is going to vote for Cruz, not a damn one. If by some freak accident Trump loses, would take his death at this point, the establishment will turn on Cruz too. He is benefiting now because he doesn't yell at women reporters and his supporters aren't beating people up. In a general when it is all about policy he will get housed.

Ted Cruz's hot take on the NC bathroom law is the perfect example of how Trump is much more presidential of the two. We can't have a president that governs like a facebook meme poster, this is ridiculously stupid.

They know full well one thing has absolutely nothing to do with the other. In their minds this is more globally palatable than their true feelings about trans people.

Cruz is.the.sane one. I about ripped off my republican genitals when I heard trump's crapmaign manager say his stick is an to get elected. This follows him saying he is for free range bathrooms; not.conservative. he will go.psycho and be an obama butt wart if elected. With cruz I do not like.the package, but good stuff in the box.

Wow what a confusing post I did and I wasn't drunk just mad. Trump sad he is against the North Carolina against the North Carolina bathroom law. Most conservative are against its repeal. Trumps manager sad his campaign to date has been a Act to get elected. Then and now Trump is showing his true colors. He is not anything more than a trans Hillary. Cruzy baby is consistent as a conservative but he is not much of a looker and.plaesing to listen too. Trump is psychotic.

-

Why wouldn't you mow in jeans?
-
I guess if you like grass stains on your jeans you would now in them.
-
Also because usually during mowing season it's 10,000 degrees.
-
Denim is not exactly active wear
Would you wear to gym?
-
mowing isn't exactly working out either.
back when I had to mow I always wore jeans because I don't like my legs getting dust and grass clippings on them. I prefer jeans for most activities that involve dust/dirt/grease.
-
That was probably mid-March. Old dudes who get jacked about mowing can't wait to get out there as early in the year as possible.

I'm not mowing a lawn in sweatpants or khakis or ski pants

Completely norm
-
mowing in both shorts and jeans is very normal unless you think mowing the lawn is the equivalent of running a 5k or playing hoops for an hour and in that case yeah I guess mowing in jeans would seem weird.
-
What's far more suspicious is how he appears to be mowing a 20-acre yard with a push mower.

he is a very awkward person
-
I'm not convinced he's 100% human.

I usually like to have a specific pair of shitty jeans that I use for times when I want pants to get dirty in (painting, mowing, etc.). I'm sure I've mowed in shorts before, but I don't really like to. I get a little freaked out about accidentally burning my shins on one of the hot parts of the mower.

There were a lot better exchanges. They were calling him Lyin Ted to his face. It was pretty funny.

It's not really funny. It's pretty sad, imo. Not only are we super screwed this election, but Trump has shown a new path. Don't think for a second that this doesn't show a bunch of unqualified ppl how they may have a shot at a successful run at whatever office they have their eye on simply by being the loudest, most unprofessional, most insulting bad person in whatever room they find themselves.

I think it's only working for Trump because he was already a celebrity before he started running for office. When career politicians try it they go down like Little Marco.
-
hopefully. However, I think that Marco just isn't good at it. None of the current politicians are. That is why he is steamrolling. No one prepped for the Yo Momma jokes. They didn't realize it was in bounds.
-
i think you are underestimating how good trump is at this. it's not something that would work for many other people (but other people could probably do other things that wouldn't work for trump but that are currently dismissed as not standard operating politicianing).
what a sad end to #nevertrumpism, btw. back in the day, when trump rallies included daily beatings and likeable young politicians like rubio seemed poised to pick up the pieces, it felt so promising. and now we're here hoping the voters in the stupidest state of the union will vote for the least likeable politician in the world in order to stave off death for at least one more week.
-
I certainly think Trump is good at it, but I also think that no other candidate this year has any experience in his game. There are plenty of ppl who can argue in insults and stupidity just like Trump. This election opens doors for them. No longer do you have to be a robotic boring politician. Now you can middle school yard bully your way though.
-
I think the pendulum will swing the other way if it gets too prevalent. I think the only reason it's working for trump is because a. he's one of the best extemporaneous speakers I can recall, and b. nobody has really run a campaign like he has before.
basically, it's novel, and he's good at it.
-
being novel is important. i don't think he's winning because he's insulting, more likely in spite of it.
in the trump thread i linked an essay on trump's popularity that was interesting.
-
I would comment but I'm waiting for sys to close his open parenthesis.
-
I would comment but I'm waiting for sys to close his open parenthesis.
done.
-
I would hope that the GOP would regroup and figure out who they are and what they want prior to the next ramp up for election. Also, I would bet that priority #1 for the party(probably both parties now) is changing their process on what to do when a trump or bernie comes in and makes too much noise.

He's really setting the stage for his next election run in 4 years.
If hill wins in a landslide, it won't matter. The party will have to change between now and then and I doubt they change to be further to the super sociopath crazy zealotry side of the spectrum, thus moving away from your guy Ted. I mean, they are mostly there now and they have Trump.

His political career is over.
It only appears that way now. After Clinton wins big and the democrats gain control of congress, Ted is going to look a whole lot better.

I just listened to most of Ted's speech. I liked it and agree with the macro of most of what he was saying about freedom and liberty. Its just too bad that his ilk want to pervert and distort that by trying to make it a freedom issue to discriminate and what not. If the Pubs could stick to the freedom and liberty and stop rough ridin' it up with Jesus and other such nonsense, they would kill, imo.

Lucifer tho
I should have the freedom and liberty to be bros with Lucifer if I want without Ted Cruz enacting something that would prevent me from getting birth control, a drivers license, or getting a job.

Well I think the fact that she was explicitly trained to act responsibly with firearms and did this illustrates how terrible both guns and cops are
-
So I haven't read much about this story, but the only two explanations are that she was totally crap faced, or went in trying to kill a guy, right? Who goes into the wrong apartment and doesn't notice immediately that it isn't theirs? Who goes into the wrong apartment at all even?

Just now watching Beto/Cruz 2. Cruz is such a shitty human being. When asked about whether he has a responsibility to foster civility in politics he blamed the far left mobs. When asked whether inflammatory rhetoric was a problem, he said absolutely which is why the far left is a big problem and would destroy democracy if they impeached Trump.

I haven't really defended Ted Cruz more than making fun of known hardcore lib Ron Perlman making fun of a politician for falling in line when his own party is filled with some of the greatest surrenders in American political history.
Front and center of course being Bernie Sanders.
But I don't expect Resident Useful Idiot Nation to get that, so the usual dumbass takes are not surprising.

If Bernie Sanders were to challenge Ron Pearlman to some sort of physical challenge against another congress member in defense of Nancy Pelosi, that would also be hilarious, dax.

Everything? Maybe not. But I'd put it at 97% or higher. And I think when people say "everything" or "everyone" we all know it's hyperbolic. Just how you say "all liberals" are a certain way, ya know?
I mean, homeboy didn't speak up with Trump called his wife a dog so I'd say that definitely points in the direction of "agreeing with everything".

I've never laid eyes on Mrs. Cruz and I had never heard a peep about Cruz's dad and JFK until this came up.
You can always check the RNC website.
But that doesn't change the words of a self professed "life long" Democrat calling out a politician for falling in line with his party. While the DNC ranks are filled with boot lickers, who, even when presented with hard evidence that their own party crap all over them. Still fell in line for the old white racist war monger(s).

This is way more press than Ted Cruz deserves.
I honestly don't know why anyone cares if Ted Cruz is in Texas, Mexico or Antarctica. He literally has nothing to do with how Texas is run.
-
He’s ostensibly a public servant for the people of Texas
-
Where does he stand on the policy/communications spectrum?
-
The only winners here are the Cruz family members who now get to vacation without Ted.

you could sort of make the argument that he doesn't have anything directly to do with how texas is run but he absolutely has a massive influence.
And I'd argue he could be doing quite a bit to help in this case if he offered.
-
He could be volunteering to hand out water jugs and blankets to the people he represents, or he could take an international vacation
-
He could have tweeted out photos from Cancun telling Texans to think warm thoughts.
-
Touché, gentlemen. He could be something in his personal capacity but we all could be doing more probably.

Yeah, normally Senators are extremely powerful politicians who can pull strings to get things done for the people they represent. Some of them just accumulate boot polish on their teeth instead

I think postponement would be prudent. oscar is going to have a hard time breaking the streak if he plays a TCU team that's been holed up for a week.

I actually think this is the kind of "cancun for me, not for thee" move that could actually cost him in the election. As southerners, Texans are dumb as hell but he just dipped when it got cold, people are dying and then he lied his ever loving ass off to crap on Texans even more.

unless this sticks in a pretty unlikely way, so that it becomes one of the like three things that people know about cruz like katrina/bush or bridgegate/christie, this is going to have no impact in 2024 elections. people don't remember things for four weeks, much less four years.

Yes, and it's important for you outsiders to remember that internal Texas politics is driven primarily not by the denizens of the major cities, but by the long tail of podunk towns. See, e.g., the State's posture towards cannabis in any form.

Why don’t you believe that he hopped on a plane, suitcases in tow, just to make sure they got down to Cancun ok, and then turned around to fly back the next morning. Seems plausible. It’s not like airplanes are uncomfortable.

This is the part that my brain will never comprehend. I can sort of see voting party lines all the time because you are too stupid to try and look in to anything. I can see voting party lines because you are stupid and continue to believe the evil liberals are going to take your guns. However, even stupid people shouldn't like to be made fun of or disrespected right to their faces. These dudes flat out call them morons at the rallies and tell them that they could shoot one of them and they will all still forge ahead without even considering any of that? It is just bizarre. Hell Cruz is the best example as Trump called his wife ugly and he still swings from his balls at every occasion.

Ted cruse is a laugh factory
Republican Sen. Ted Cruz called White House press secretary Jen Psaki 'Peppermint Patty,' said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rides a 'broom' and got the Conservative Political Action Conference crowd to boo Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and chant 'Let's Go Brandon.'
The Texas Republican deployed a number of zingers as he got 'philosophical' at the conference, telling those attending the annual affair that the battle the nation is currently fighting it between 'power and liberty.'
'The two are in fundamental conflict. We are seeing it everyday: Vaccine mandates versus doctors and nurses, mask mandates versus kids in school, Spotify versus Joe Rogan, GoFundMe versus Canadian truckers,' he said.
Justin Trudeau,' he said, as the crowd chimed in with loud boos. 'Let's pause for a second and observe that is the first time in recorded history that any Canadian has illicited that much of a response from any crowd on planet earth,' said Cruz, who was born in Canada to an American mother.
Quote:
'Let me say one final thing - In January of 2023 I am looking forward to walking down the hallway of the United States Capitol. And bumping into a little man wearing overalls. He's carrying a screwdriver and coming to change the sign on Nancy Pelosi's door,' Cruz said.
'And Nancy is going to get on her broom - OK, no, no that's not fair, that's not fair - she's going to get on her private jet, called the U.S.S. Broom and fly back to California and we're going to send Chuck Schumer back to New York City,' the Texas senator continued.
'And we're going to tell Joe Biden it's 2025 and he'll just wander back to Delaware,' he added.
Cruz predicted 'change is coming.'
'It is powerful. You wanna know how powerful? Find me one person on planet earth who doesn't know what "Let's Go Brandon" is,' he said.
Cruz then walked off to a chant of 'Let's Go Brandon.'

hell yeah.
Bet he has a fundraising email ready to raise cash from his performance today. That's all these 'pub senators are doing. Getting some good zingers and dog whistles on tape so they can raise campaign cash based on how they "opposed Biden's activist judicial nominees who want to destroy America as we know it...."
-
I watched Cruz's questioning live. While ridiculous, get used to it, because the Virginia governor race last year set the template for what we'll see in 2022 and 2024. Cruz is simply laying the foundation.
-
Honestly, when you look at the rest of the probable lineup Trump is not so bad.
Cruz?
Cotton?
Pompeo?
Desantis?
At least Trump is funny.

Does Mitt have a chance or is the Republican Party fully committed to owning the libs?
-
No, the party is too fractured and the majority is fully aligned MAGA. Sasse also has no shot unless the MAGA vote tears itself apart.

100p. The Ted Cruzes are dog whistling their base but the dog whistle I’m hearing is that they have zero legitimate complaints about putting her on the bench.

The nomination is not in question. The hearings are simply an opportunity for shameless grandstanding and fundraising for 'pub senators. A few weeks ago, I had hear that McConnell didn't want the hearing to degenerate into this but here we are.

Idk if it’s being worse cause it just kind of illustrates how they’re all pure politicians. Sasse voters don’t want their representative to look like a bigot or an idiot, even though they generally want the same policies as Ted Cruz voters.

Yeah, I’ve got some apparently surprising news for the group so sit your asses down: I’m a registered republican. A squishy moderate one no doubt, but lifelong and unwavering. I split my ticket most times though (I voted for Chillery and Uncle Joe).

A lot going on in that mural.

I think they missed a real opportunity to make Jesus’s rifle an AR-15. Other than that, it’s clearly the work of a very talented youngster!

The problem with that mural is that Greg is standing up.

Are Ted and Gregg about to give birth to the new right in texas or is Gregg having to carry Ted's baby because they can't get an abortion? Either way, Jessyus seems to approve.

Excellent question. It’s art, so it’s up to us, but one does wonder about the artist’s motives and muse, doesn’t one?
-
I like to think of it as a Mary/Joseph/Jesus situation.

So, Gregg gets knocked up by some other dude(s), Ted buys the immaculate conception story, and Jesus is both approving of it and about to be born? This seems as Maga as it could be. I like it.

First off on that last post, it's just super weird how #blueanon coddles that Obama stooge and dude who was buried deep with the Chinese . . . Merrick Garland, but I digress.
Today at the border
“Ask yourself, Why is President Biden not here? Why is Kamala Harris not here? Why is Elizabeth Warren not here? Why is AOC? She still owns the white pantsuit. Why is she not here with her head buried in her hands?
No chance for a staged photo op that gets simp brained #blueanon :bawl: :bawl: :bawl: in their favorite flavor of Adagio Teas.

Serious question to you or anyone else who knows: what is there for Cruz to "probe" (lol) about the relationship between AB InBev and this social media advertiser?
-
I mean, we all know Cruz is a horn dog who loves to like porn on social media, but why is he so adamant about probing this trans woman?

Literally nothing. This is for the base, nothing more. He won't do crap but "investigating bud light" is chum for magas who are legit idiots. He simply had to get up and act outraged about woke bud light to get a few points. Nevermind there is nothing to investigate, the Bud light publicity stunt was like 2 months ago and AB is a private corp who can have whatever type of relationship they with with whoever they want
cruz is literally one of the laziest panderers there is.
-
If Ted wants to probe anything then he should say “lend me your rears” to Mark Anthony Group, parent company of White Claw

Ted's fake outrage bullshit is what members of Congress have to do when they have absolutely nothing of substance to offer their constituents. No ideas, no solutions, nothing. But BY GAWD there's going to be hearings about this!!

The nature of Bud Light's relationship with Dylan Mulvaney has to be like number 9,999,999 out of ten million on the list of things that the actual person Ted Cruz cares about. He graduated from Harvard Law school so I assume he is 100% aware that this is none of Congress' business.

I have a crazy feeling that the feds are behind all of this. The trans woman? Fed. The advertising director at Bud Light? Fed. The can designer? Fed. The initial boycotter? Fed. Kid Rock? Fed. Guy who recommended blasting guns at beer? Fed. Toby Keith? Fed.
Ted? More like Fed.
-
The guy who retweeted Ted's passion for pronography? You guessed it, a fed

Should have went in the common ground thread.
Something isn't adding up here, there's definitely a cover up going on. He was indicted for securities fraud in 2015, didn't get impeached then, didn't even get sanctioned. He's been under federal probe since 2020 and there hasn't been a peep. The governor has known about this dude being a crook since he took office. I can't wait to see what this is actually about.
-
Also there's a better than decent chance he doesn't get removed from office. He's apparently been making calls to and threatening legislators. If they don't remove him he's going to be empowered to even be worse. If he does get removed I'm guessing he's going to sing like a bird, outing Texas republicans who he feels did him wrong.
-
At this point I’d barely be surprised if it was a conspiracy among all republicans just for the sake of making Paxton a victim since that’s like Catnip to MAGAs.

I think the bridge too far was when he used tax dollars to pay off whistle blowers who had gotten fired for whistle blowing
-
Some cloak and dagger type stuff, for sure. (I do not mean to imply Paxton doesn't deserve it, because he does, and eff that guy.) I doubt this happens if they don't already know they have the Senate votes.
