i was hoping the season was over, but playing nebraska would be pretty neat.
is 45-13 neat?

I like klieman but i do think he could upgrade a couple assistant coaches for more dynamic recruiters. I would have loved to have gotten the young DL coach that NEB hired instead of the old one we hired.

missouri has five 4-star commits in this class. 4 more than Klieman has the last 2 years. So even Drinkwitz is severely out recruiting us. who does missouri have doing the recruiting? we should up the price for their services? i would think missouri would be a fairly tough sell but over half their 4-stars are from out of state.

You think selling recruits the chance to play in the sec and to see the field early is a tough sell?
they have no better chance to see the field early at missouri than any program in america. so that shouldn't be an advantage for missouri.
playing in the SEC? what is so great about who missouri plays?
i would show the recruits the missouri schedule for the last 2 years and the next 4 years. they only played 1 team this year with a winning record. they beat 0 teams this year with a winning record. does that sound like a schedule/league to brag about?
they dont alabama the next 4 years
they play LSU 1 time in the next 4 years
you aren't really playing what most people call the SEC if you play at missouri
thats what i would tell recruits. and its true. playing against OU and UT are bigger names than anyone missouri plays 90% of the time
You actually just inadvertently helped the case for a dude to go to Mizzou with your schedule logic there, imHo. You can't deny the SEC brand as much as we all hate it. It's the most established brand in all of college football in 2020.
im not denying the brand. im simply pointing out in reality the SEC brand really only applies to 4-5 programs and the other 10 just ride the coat tails.
if a kid thinks going to missouri means he will be playing against big boy SEC programs he is wrong. at the end of this season missouri will have played only 2 teams with a winning record. does that sound like a good league? when kids think SEC they think Bama, LSU, Auburn, A&M, GA, FL
missouri does play GA and FL but the rest of their schedule is vandy, SC, kentucky, tenn, and ark. Those aren't the SEC teams that kids would name when mentioning the SEC

thankful they had some positive things happen but i'm tired of the ass kickings. Do not want to watch another game because i'm pretty confident that we would get run again. something is wrong on defense and its not getting fixed until they have different players

Goolsby was terrible and we played Jonathan Durham significant snaps all last year.

Goolsby was second on the team in tackles and interceptions. He was a  3 year starter who started every game last year and 33 for his career. I don't know what constitutes significant snaps but Durham was 17th on the defense on snaps played. He only played 9 games, one start, and that was at the nickel, not safety.

Yea Wayne Jones played opposite Goolsby, which he has done again this year.  It’s basically sub J Mac for Goolsby and the same linebackers but Hughes for Patton.  I still don’t understand how TF they lost Will Jones to the portal, and couldn’t develop Tyrone Lewis enough to even get rotational depth, that feels like shooting our own foot off.

J Mac is playing out of position because we don't have safeties. The Will Jones thing is baffling, no one really talked about it but of all of the portal guys, his story is the one I'm most interested in hearing, maybe he got tired of seeing Elder playing snaps.

I think year two, even in aa non COVID year is too early to make judgements about player development, especially for freshmen. That dude could have been out multiple times with COVID and contact tracing for all we know.
i watched wayne jones today and he was absolutely terrible all day. no wonder he lost his job. it helps explain how Elder could get playing time. the safety position might be the worst collection of talent of any position group since the 1980s.

There were a couple highlights,  so I guess it was ok

I like a lot of our recruits and young players, but not a fan of our OC ...😕
[/quote
the OC had a way better performance this year than the DC. the DC had a senior laden group and regressed into possibly the worst defense in school history with a lot of seniors.
the OC had new, young players everywhere and progressed into a slightly a below average offense even with a true frosh QB who was the worst D1 QB in the country
the OC is not the problem. He did okay with what he had.

This is one of those things where FB-QB-IQ doesn't necessarily relate to Ivy entrance criteria, and vice versa.

I don't know that being a turnover machine has anything to do with his intelligence on the field, dude just can't throw.
Yeah but also makes wrong reads kind of consistently.

Anyway, being a to machine and making bad reads is also characteristic of true freshman QBs.
his INTs were from not seeing the field at all or even looking at the field as much as they were from inaccuracy. He is both inaccurate and doesn't see the field either. and isnt comfortable moving in the pocket either. basically does nothing right

The meltdowns are epic today.

This program has no depth and Covid made it worse.
why would the DL be worn down? they were all available today and most of them were available each game this year. i saw plenty of subs on the DL today. All our LBs were available today.
i agree we lack depth always have but other teams are dealing with similar issues. why did we wear out? i might accept that our safeties were a disaster the last several games if not the whole year but saying we were worn out is an excuse. frankly our DL got embarrassed today with no excuses. Our LBs were a disaster all year even when they were all available. maybe the D get worn down but why didn't the other teams wear down like us?

Losing out the season
its not surprising when you have to play will howard for most the season. what has surprised me is how the defense has absolutely tanked. i think the other programs have studied us enough now to know the KSU weak spots and they are big

But we would have won against them at the beginning of the season.

Honestly, we're only another year or so away.
the biggest reason we suck is we have the worst QB of any program in the country without a doubt. That will bring down an entire program but KSU was also breaking in an entirely new OL with no WRs. Put Skylar back in there and we would give NEB game. Frost has 4 star players everywhere and has a veteran QB.

watching our safeties in this texas game they are terrible. Slow to react to every play. slow to attack. its almost like we have a couple players out there that aren't even on the field. they are virtually invisible. our DC has a lot of work to do

Kansas State Football / Re: At what point are we Nebraska?

are u kidding? NEB would annihilate us this year. without an average QB we are among the worst teams in the country. you think NEB is bad but they aren't close to this bad

it appears they are trying to get Howard some experience instead of trying to win the game. 3rd and 3 with Howard as your QB should be 2 straight runs for a first down. why would you let him drop back with a true freshman LT blocking a NFL draft pick?

The last three quarters of defensive football have to be the worst in the country. :Yuck:
what has happened? the LBs have struggled all year which explains the terrible run defense but the pass defense was solid most of the year. i think other teams figured out how to attack our LBs in passing situations. they offset our pass rush with quick passes and our LBs are very slow in open space.
the DL has got manhandled a lot lately

Freshman QB without an off season to prepare.
he's worse than a freshman QB without an off season to prepare. He's the worst i've ever seen. being serious
and he's had 2 months of taking all the snaps in practice and has not improved one bit
either they recruited the wrong guy or they can't coach QBs. there is no reason a P5 freshman QB should be this bad. there is not good but this is terrible

Kashi, did you really expect all the roster holes to be fixed in one recruiting class? You are constantly bitching about roster depth, did you want them to sign all juco players last year? You might be the only fan of any team in the country whining about their head coaches first recruiting class being filled with freshmen.
it was the 2nd recruiting class and there is nothing wrong with trying to win now. it wouldn't take a whole class of jucos or transfers but a few at key positions. all the other programs do it. why would KSU not want to do what other successful programs do?

Kansas State Football / safety position going into the season
« on: December 05, 2020, 08:56:51 AM »
im trying to figure out how the coaches thought our personnel for the safety position was adequate going into the season and didn't pursue transfer or juco options. there's no reason to believe they thought any of the young safeties were going to be adequate because none of them were experimented with early in the season. Even if they thought Wayne Jones was going to develop a lot more than he did thats a lot to risk on 1 player. Most coaches not only want a dependable starter but they want at least 1 backup that isnt a big step down from the starter. not only did KSU go into the season without an adequate starter but they didn't have anything on the depth chart either. how big of a miscalculation or misevaluation did our coaches do this year ? I like the coaching staff, i think there are some weak pieces, but i am not impressed from the outside at their urgency to create high quality depth at every position. are they aggressively seeking transfers but getting turned away?

we can't move the ball against air and UT has a salty defense especially the DL. I dont see how the Cats score unless its all special teams

I hope our staff is wearing out the F5 button on their QB transfer searches.
any chance at all skylar will want one more year of college fb?

If Skylar is healthy, you welcome him back with open arms.

If he isn't, let Rubley and Will battle for the spot.

This program is still a few years from relevance (if ever with these coordinators?) so a year of development for either (or both?) could be huge... although frustrating to watch
i'm all for development but other programs let the young QBs do that while transfer QBs run their team. Even most of the 5-star #1 rated high school QBs in the country get a redshirt year before they get on the field. I'm not blaming Klieman for Skylar's injury but i am blaming him for not having an adequate backup to skylar.  Its one thing if your young QB is spencer rattler. He will still win you a lot of games while still developing even more. But when you throw something like Will Howard out there to develop it doesn't work for the program overall. the other guys are working their asses off just to get embarrassed every saturday because the coaches are "developing" a QB. the coaches owe it to the team to put a credible QB out there every year and let the development come predominantly from practice reps and mop up duty

with that said it is a HUGE advantage to have a 4 year senior QB running your offense versus the a true frosh who is without a doubt the worst P5 starting qB in america right now. the disparity in that position alone should make it almost impossible for KSU to win the game. then factor they actually have effective WRs to go alone with their senior QB and it was a miracle that we had a chance to win. Give KSU just an average QB and they have at least 2 more wins this year.

Are we going to lose this game?!

If we don't get a special teams touchdown or a turnover from Brewer on his half of the field, yes we will.
thats what i told my wife at the beginning of the 4th quarter. KSU can not win a game when the offense has to score to win the game because the defense can not make a stop. they were going to need special teams or a turnover to win. it was a very helpless feeling to know we had to have something lucky to happen because we couldn't compete with them straight up
