i dont think KSU forced a punt the entire 2nd half. they have their moments when they play well but just cannot play an entire 60 minutes. Brewer absolutely ripped their ass open throwing the ball and running the ball the entire game. Our LBs must have a ton of trouble covering in space because the last few games all the passing yards are short passes to wide open receivers who then break 3 tackles to get big yardage. D is severely over rated
Our starting LB's were out.
i know that. doesn't change that we can't cover the middle of the field. and this was a problem with sullivan and hughes in there too. we are not even close to adequate at LB. Green is coming around on run defense but cannot cover

Is there anything more overrated than the KSU defense?
Im surprised it took baylor an entire half to realize the middle part of our defense (in it's current lineup) struggles at alot of things.
once they figured it out KSU was helpless. we were not going to get a stop the rest of the game. and baylor knew on our last possession that we would just run run the ball and punt. Once Klieman knew our defense was toast he should have become more aggressive on offense

Our QB position is the absolute worst in D1. and i'm not exaggerating. can anyone name a team with a worse QB than us? FYI I will take the KU freshman QB over Howard any day of the week.
you can't win games when the difference in QBs is this gargantuan. Klieman refuses to throw deep any more. well you are going to lose if you can only run the ball. you might as well throw deep and hope for a lucky catch like baylor got twice tonight or a pass interference

This season has no bearing on the trajectory of our program.  If Klieman doesn’t have his crap together for the 2022 season then he will be on a hot seat.  Most on here don’t really follow recruiting so I get the ignorance but we are getting solid players to fill these classes. We may snag 6 or 7 P5 level players out of Kansas alone for the 2022 class the way things are trending.
how will he have his crap together next year? he will have the worst QB in the league. The worst WR corp in the league. No depth behind Vaughn at RB. An OL with no legit tackles. All the best players on D will have graduated with little if any talent behind them.
next year looks significantly worse than this year

Kansas State Football / dual threat QBs

Used to be KSU always had one of the better elusive QBs in the league
Now we have had one of the least elusive QBs in the league for several years
With Howard Im damn sure he is the least elusive QB in the B12
With our recruiting being so pathetic how can Klieman not prioritize an elusive QB? We need our QB to be dynamic with his legs because we will always have trouble protecting him
At NDSU they could protect the QB because they had superior lines to all their opponents
is this something that Klieman overlooked going from being the big boy school to the little sister school?

i dont think we'll miss many of the kids who transferred. none of them were key pieces. im much more interested in our coaches thoughts on ACQUIRING transfers this offseason. we didn't seem very aggressive last year even though it was obvious we needed some. when we did try we mostly failed. much like the snyder staff i think this staff can coach and x/o but i'm not sure thats good enough at KSU. We also need our coaches to be above average recruiters.
i dont think anyone can remotely conclude our coaches are even average recruiters at this point. Until KSU gets recruiters who beat other programs often they will not go where we want to go. its more about jimmy and joes than x's and o's

this just in: Fletcher is terrible too
Gawd we are so thin KU doesn't even have to play walk on types anymore. we only beat them because their coaches are idiots.

its just 1 game and we have owned ISU for a long time but man the difference in athletes between the 2 teams looks gigantic right  now. Klieman is farther away from being successful not getting closer. I know ISU recruits pretty good but not great. Our recruiting has been consistently one of the worst in the country and every now and then it shows

Kleiman is all about playing whether we have all walkons or full roster.  I’m not sure why but maybe he is one of those diversity breeds success guys.
i agree but we weren't going to win with Howard as QB anyway. the absence of defensive starters made the score worse but didn't change the winner. Howard is true frosh but is also terrible

need some better coaching on 3rd and longs. we have to be the most pathetic defense in america on 3rd down.  Our LBs just give up 10 yards of room to RBs out of the backfield. need a complete overhaul at LB

This playcalling is dogshit and I'm sick of Howard trying to get Vaughn killed.
howard is not ready to be a QB. its our coaches fault he is needed as a true frosh. he is incapable of seeing the field and acting on it

Teams are so damn mean to Elder.

Sent from my LG-LS998 using Tapatalk
new drinking game. drink every time ross elder is either run over by a RB or a second late defending a pass. you'd be mumped up in the first quarter of every game. really concerned about the defense next year. we have absolutely NOTHING at certain positions

Klanderman said its similar to the OU game when they were missing a number of DBs. anyone hear who is not making the trip to Ames? sounds like a significant number

so can ksu add 35 new recruits this year instead of the traditional 25? do they even have that many kids they want or could get?

Kansas State Football / Re: Klieman ain't the answer
« on: November 07, 2020, 08:53:09 PM »
I think all these things can be true:
1. Overall, Klieman’s a pretty good coach/program CEO
2. His end half time management skills & points chasing decisions are outlier bad for a good coach. Like a kid taking an assessment test getting 90th percentile in everything except in one subject they get an 18th percentile.
3. Will Howard is playing as a true freshman QB
4. It’s really hard to judge a true freshman QB
5. The number of wobbly balls he throws is concerning for a potential developmental P5 QB.
6. Skyler threw a much better ball when he was getting PT as a RSFR.
7. Given how Skyler has progressed over 3 years, I’m not sure Klein is the best QB skill developer.
i think Skylar was a solid average QB. maybe a little below average in the B12. But the difference btw him and will howard is gigantic. Skylar is better in every single way. not shocking since howard is a freshman but i dont see any signs with howard that he will turn out to be a better passer or better runner than skylar. There are so many elite QBs out there most programs get at least one. Klieman pretty much struck out on many of his top recruits in the last class. It was not a good sign for recruiting in the future. I think the coaches are good Xs and Os. I'm not convinced that is good enough. I'd rather have the best recruiters. I know that doesn't guarantee anything but at least you have the talent and only have to teach them. with lesser talent you have to be perfect to win. and its hard to be perfect.

The choice to suck absolute crap in the 2nd half was an interesting adjustment I’m surprised it didn’t work out

You referring to the offense? I believe they overachieved in the first half. The defense was rough ridin' great outside of Ross Elder bullfighting with their running back.
the D was pretty stout with a few exceptions. Elder actually getting in the game is baffling based on his play. KSU has HUGE roster holes to fill. With just an adequate QB KState wins that game. But i blame the coaches for needing a true frosh QB to be the backup. other programs go out and get a juco to be a backup. Howard is too weak physically right now to be playing at this time. and he can not see the field in the passing game

Kashi, the reason a true freshman is the backup is because the true freshman is better than the other quarterbacks on the roster. You think some slap dick QB from Coffeyville and just stroll in and play quarterback in the Big 12? If he could I assure you he'd be starting in the MAC or Sun Belt or some crap.
i know that. there should be better QBs on the roster. there should not be a QB situation where we would have to rely on a true freshman to play. Most other programs have at least 2 QBs who are somewhat competitive with each other in terms of skill. as with many of our positions KSU basically has a 1 deep roster. Thats a big problem. and it appears its going to continue to be a problem for at least several more years.

Lol at freaking out about having a freshman backup

Almost any sane person would be thrilled with a true freshman as a back up, but not kashi. OU, Alabama, Clemson all have freshman backups, I'm sure those coaches are lamenting the lack of talent at the position.

Never mind how rare it is to lose a starting QB for the season after 2.5 games.
why would anyone want a true frosh as a backup? i can guarantee no coach wants to rely on a true frosh QB. other than Clemson or Bama and even those coaches would prefer not to. Most #1 QB recruits in america dont play as true freshmen. hard to believe Klieman had no one any better than Howard. but it is what it is. Another year with far less than ideal roster. will KSU ever have a truly competitive deep roster?

Jesus, when this dude has a quarterback I'm not sure he'll ever lose. This might be the best, really bad football team in the history of the sport.

When do you think he will have a QB?

Is your memory mumped? You think we lose that game with Skylar?
we definitely win that game with Skylar. by more than 1 score. I give big kudos to the coaches for schemes that allow a roster of lower talent actually compete with rosters with SIGNIFICANTLY more talent. But they should be blamed for not making sure we had a backup QB ready that was not a true freshman. they take the blame for the QB situation. also, next year dont look any better. our better than adequate defense is going to lose the entire DL and all the LBs. We have no playmakers on offense. next year will probably look worse because now we won't have any defense to help protect an anemic offense. this is going to take years to improve because this staff is incapable of recruiting well enough to fix things in a hurry

his big mistakes today were not caused by a bad OL. He had plenty of time to throw at the end of the game but chose to force it. He fumbled on his own in the open field. He missed a couple open receivers. He shouldn't be playing but Snyder/Klieman were unable to secure an actual backup QB. thats the coaches fault

Kashi, shut up, Jesus Christ.
do u disagree? if u do, please name the B12 QB who is not a better runner than Howard. because i went through all of them in my head and its not even particular close.
The B12 has a lot of great running QBs.

howard looks like a decent backup option to me. they say is a dual threat QB but if I rank all the QBs in the B12 by their running ability I would say Howard is the worst runner in the league. the KU freshman could be a star in the old snyder system

He’s far too slight and would be broken in half.
as a true freshman you make a good point. But give him a couple years to add 20-25 pounds and I like him. He's an outstanding runner and his arm looks as good any anyone in the league right now outside of Rattler. Now i'm not sure if he has any of the other capabilities like reading defenses but he looks to have the physical talent. not sure about the mental talent yet. Snyder seemed to like the guys like this. Make sure they have the physical ability then teach them the rest. I dont see the basic physical ability with Howard. he may be great in the brain i hope thats enough

Deuce is banged up for sure.

Which is fine but the lack of confidence in the offense to get one damn yard between the tackles, despite the running back was telling for that game and for the season.

No doubt, the fact that we can’t line it up and punch them in the mouth with Dineen leading the way is pretty sad.
all new OLs. worst OL in the league other than KU. No true offensive tackles. playing out of position players because Snyder couldn't attract a single OT. And Klieman couldn't convince a transfer to come to KSU. the team's roster is frankly a complete mess. we should be thankful we have won a couple games. Really need recruiting to pick up. at this recruiting pace it will take several classes to fill up the roster adequately

Defense looking stout. Particularly considering how good WVU is offensively.
Wut
can someone explain how we didn't go out and get transfers to play immediately at safety and LB? Hughes cannot run at all. Elder would be 3rd string at KU

Hughes can run. Elder, not so much.
apparently you are not watching. literally Hughes can't run and literally can not change direction. go watch the replays on youtube. the moderators on the other board have been saying it all season. he is a HUGE liability out there. how could the coaches have thought this LB group could possibly be adequate for any P5 program? there have not been any injuries. the 4th string unit from UT could start at KSU
