From what I can tell, the boomer/x contingent of the Texas board absolutely loves the Gavin stuff so that's depressing
I got scammed in Athens. so embarrassing
anyway day one, we landed at like 1pm, everyone was insanely jet lagged (including me) but I wanted some sunshine so I left the apartment and decided to wander around the neighborhood, maybe grab a beer. An old guy stops me and asks me for the time. Now, my bullshit meters are immediately going off and I basically tell him to eff off but he was old and nice so I show him the time. He asks me where I'm from, NYC, "Oh, my brother is in Astoria, he has a restaurant there". OK what's it called? and I'm pretty sure he said "Moussaka" which was also bullshit but he says - "I have a cafe, I'll give you his card" or something. So I am like what the hell it is a tame tourist street in broad daylight what can happen. So we roll up to his "cafe" and it's actually a shitty lounge type bar. there's a group of what looks like tourists in a booth and one lady at the bar. the guy invites me to join him for some ouzo so I'm like "why not - drinks are reasonable in greece". and then immediately the lady slides over and is like "hey buy me a drink too" and it was clear she was a prostitute but I'm not interested in that (and I'm jet lagged so again, not thinking clearly) and was like fine and then the bartender was like "buy me one too" and I said yes to this too! (I KNOW IT WAS SO STUPID!!!!) Anyway I have a second drink but didn't buy anyone else one and the lady was from Ukraine really wanted me to pay her for something so I ask for the bill.
IT WAS 110 EUROS
massive shame myself. in hindsight the guy just got me to agree to a ton of slightly more suspect things when I should have told him to eff off when he asked for the time.
anyway
Spracne, off topic but do you enjoy the sound of Brian Hanni's voice? Do you tolerate it? Or does it make you want to sharpen two wheat stalks, jam them into your ears until you can no longer hear but then keep pushing until they go into your brain and you are deaf and also dead?
The thought of my kid (new KSU Cats student) not having access to Pizza Shuttle for Sunday night nourishment is breaking me inside.I will IRL cry if Pizza Shuttle goes out of business.
Well it's time to grieve, I have. The potential sale to the owners of the Lawrence and Topeka pizza shuttles feel through. It's over. FWIW, I had shuttle this summer and it was mid, at best. They didn't even have the logo on the boxes anymore.
How could this have possibly failed? The jingle, the personal size, the drunken staple, etc. It was also in a tiny ass kitchen that couldn't have cost much to operate. Anyone have the inside towny scoop?

Ease of access is a dumb reason for not regulating anything. The laws just need to make sense and the tools need to be developed.Age verification for porn sites is good in and of itself.
For the performers, absolutely. But nic I’ve got some bad news. Kids are going to see teh pr0n. They just are and there is no safe guard that will mitigate it in any meaningful way. (This is not a new development. It’s literally always been this way)
that's a dumb argument that i've heard used against gun control regulation
75% of kids look at porn. But give us all your personal information and we’ll realistically get that down to…72%
Also, invalid comparison. Nobody is going to die because someone didn’t exercise good porn safety
To mocat’s point, acting like either of those presents an insurmountable barrier is intellectually dishonest. Obviously I think we should prioritize guns, but that’s not mutually exclusive with limiting minors’ ability to access adult content.
He was on quite a roll there and was probably knee deep in shipwreck enthusiast poon
I agree gay marriage should be legal. I also think there’s a decent argument the Supreme Court overstepped in declaring it to be so.
That said, even hardcore conservatives on SCOTUS have to believe that the juice of forcing the issue back on states isn’t worth the squeeze of appearing to be a partisan pendulum that swings based solely on the party in power.
I lived in a hood with a marina on the Inter-coastal - lots of boats and boat nerds
Monthly jobs reports are a statutory requirement. If we would like better data, and thus fewer revisions, perhaps we should restore funding to the BLS.
you are going to enrage some dummies with this kind of talk.
What will fix the problem #slowdug? Apparently a $728m dollar annual budget for this one little faction of the DOL wasn't enough. So $1b a year - $2b a year - how much?
For starters, they could bring back the advisory committees that DOGE disbanded. Part of their function was increasing response rates to the monthly surveys and modernizing the survey process. We've also not had "crap reporting."
I'm sure EJ Antoni will be able to navigate these waters, however.
Who measured the effectiveness of this committee and their functions? Are you implying that there's now a block on BLS staff collaborating with academia and outside sources? if so, please provide a link.
Over 2,000 full time staff dedicated to one function.
Are you under the impression that the monthly jobs report is the only function of the BLS?
No - I am sure there are numerous sub functions.
But in typical you fashion - you keep avoiding other parts of what I am saying and/or asking. Very onbrand for you and others on here.
Only extreme hyper-partisans don't get the political implications of a election impacting jobs reports - that ultimately turn out to be massively overstated (or understated). Only hyper-partisans continue to try and pooh pooh away the 2 if not 3 times during the Biden administrations that jobs numbers turned out about to be very very wrong.
They are not and were not massively overstated or understated. Regardless, if that is your stance.. why would we then stop efforts to improve the jobs surveys, institute a hiring freeze, fire the experienced commissioner, and hire this Twitter moron? Seems like that would make it worse.
I don't know why I bother to interact with you. You are ignorant of complicated topics, either unknowingly or on purpose, and yet there exists no area where you don't think of yourself as a subject matter expert. rough ridin' frustrating individual. Have some self-reflection and consider that perhaps thousands of trained economists know what they are doing, if you are able.
Meade mentioned so this goes here

The amount of people that think iPhones and chips(not delicious potato chips) are going to be built in America is way too rough ridin' high. Why not? Just a slight improvement in robotics could allow onshoring. And we can and do make chips here, so I dunno what you mean.
