I got scammed in Athens. so embarrassing
anyway day one, we landed at like 1pm, everyone was insanely jet lagged (including me) but I wanted some sunshine so I left the apartment and decided to wander around the neighborhood, maybe grab a beer. An old guy stops me and asks me for the time. Now, my bullshit meters are immediately going off and I basically tell him to eff off but he was old and nice so I show him the time. He asks me where I'm from, NYC, "Oh, my brother is in Astoria, he has a restaurant there". OK what's it called? and I'm pretty sure he said "Moussaka" which was also bullshit but he says - "I have a cafe, I'll give you his card" or something. So I am like what the hell it is a tame tourist street in broad daylight what can happen. So we roll up to his "cafe" and it's actually a shitty lounge type bar. there's a group of what looks like tourists in a booth and one lady at the bar. the guy invites me to join him for some ouzo so I'm like "why not - drinks are reasonable in greece". and then immediately the lady slides over and is like "hey buy me a drink too" and it was clear she was a prostitute but I'm not interested in that (and I'm jet lagged so again, not thinking clearly) and was like fine and then the bartender was like "buy me one too" and I said yes to this too! (I KNOW IT WAS SO STUPID!!!!) Anyway I have a second drink but didn't buy anyone else one and the lady was from Ukraine really wanted me to pay her for something so I ask for the bill.
IT WAS 110 EUROS
massive shame myself. in hindsight the guy just got me to agree to a ton of slightly more suspect things when I should have told him to eff off when he asked for the time.
anyway
