Kansas State Football / Re: the "following a legend" issue
« on: November 21, 2018, 02:27:14 PM »
So much of the "impossibility" of the situation revolves around Coach Snyder's courage. Is he brave enough to totally divest when the time comes? If so, it increases his successor's odds tremendously. BTW, I've taken NONE of my knowledge or info about leadership succession from K-State's Leadership Studies program, it's all been post K-State (some lived and some learned experiences).

Don't hate these.

Seriously, this is a real issue. Founder's syndrome is a real thing in organizational dynamics. Sometimes there are exceptions, but largely the leader who follows the founder (legend, etc.) is un- or under-whelmingly successful unless they orchestrate things just right (which includes the founder endorsing - unconditionally - the successor).

The experts all advise for an "interim-CEO/leader" type of a person and I concur. I'd recommend that this person come from the existing staff or from a very "trusted" part of the Snyder coaching tree and be very clear that he will not pursue the long-term gig. (note that I think Jim Leavitt has this type of skillset, he build USF from the ground up and KNOWS what a program needs to build and to sustain - plus I LOVE his defensive-oriented mentality; and for those who don't like him as the long-term HC, it takes him off the table; practical matter, I don't foresee him giving up his gig (at Oregon?) for this type of role)

This will cause some slippage in our already poor current recruiting effort, but it will do loads of good for our organization. The interim should have the full backing of the AD to make ANY changes necessary (including ousting a certain special teams coach/assistant head coach if it's warranted) for the long-term good of the program.

Let's do this! Rip the band-aid off and let's build for the future. I have no idea who the "right" interim or the "right" long-term Head Coach are; the great football minds on this board need to weigh in on that. For me, I'd still love to see Brent Venables from the long-term HC and see if he can do it. (at least it will end all speculation once he gives it a whirl)

I'm going to go.  I hope we win on a missed call that the conference subsequently apologizes for.
That would be a PERFECT ending to any Farmageddon and especially so for this "meh" football season.

Main reason for the loss: Donald. That guy is an exceptional talent on a talented team. Penalties didn't help, but weren't the difference-maker. Turnovers killed us (I love Pat Mahomes, but he threw 3 INTs and got stripped for two more - I'm confident he'll learn from those and improve though). Rams O made plays when they needed to. Our D came through a couple of times, but also didn't a couple of (key) times (e.g. the last TD). I ain't mad at the Chiefs. I agree with the sentiment that this will motivate them to get better. Is Eric Berry done with football? Is he just sticking around to be an extra coach? If he can take the field at some point this year, it will bolster the D. (I think our real weakness is our LBs though.)

THIS is not getting enough love and affirmation. If Mahomes can bring the Super Bowl Trophy AND Whataburger to KC, he will go DIRECTLY into KC HOF annals.   :Woot:  :crossfingers:
What a beautiful human being

i do not understand how anyone can cheer or pull for El Tri.
I'm Mexican on my dad's side. So when the USA is not playing: ¡Viva El Tri!

For international soccer, kind of like others here I go country, continent, hemisphere. Other than that, I'll root for the underdog (especially vs. Italy, England, Germany, Brazil, or Argentina).

BTW - I loved Webber calling the game. Almost as good (but different than) Gus.

maybe the difference being one is a PBP guy, the other is not.  They should put them together.l
Ultimate dream team crew.   Who do we want on the sidelines in that scenario? Holly Rowe? Too bad Gus is signed over at Fox ...

Obviously, but if we would have played that double out someone is getting a layup with Gabriel away from the rim. When we allowed the defense to reset Gabriel was in position to give help and contest the layup.
If FB is a game of inches, the BB is a game of centimeters. He came within a whisker of blocking that shot. But I'll take it!

There's no doubt that since the injury he's been a diff'rent Stokes.

I learned that I don't know very much about coding here on the board . . .

I also came to the conclusion that I can still cheer on the basketball team despite my contempt for oscar. (but my pessimism tells me we won't make it to the first weekend in the tournament)

This next generation doesn’t have the cajones (Mexican for balls) to enrage entire fan bases and get news media/school presidents involved.
I believe cojones is the word you're looking for . . . (or, if you want to say it like a Mexican you should say huevos)

Patrick Ewing to Georgetown :surprised:

Oh man, this is going to start a firestorm of "Mitch Richmond to K-State" rumors amongst the tucks.

I didn't realize Mitch is on staff with Mullins at St John's.

VERY interesting . . . (would definitely take over Jank)

What? Why?
Generally anti-Jank. IDK why.

who knows who is wearing the professionally made john currie full body suit and mask?
I think it's Phil Fulmer, the size is off, but who else has the motive?

Just rough ridin' do it.
I concur. #FTB

at this point, miami is not a better job than south carolina.  even for frank.
Just imagine if the money was the same. Miami vs. Columbia (advantage Miami: place, family, etc.); would be more of a maintenance and boosting to the next level kind of gig, Frank has proven he can build, maintain and boost (with and without the GRCOAT). Plus there are just intangibles about 'home,' that might appeal to Frank.

In the end, who knows? Maybe Frank is a lifer at USCarolina - unless Duke, Kentucky, Florida, KU (gulp!) or Indiana come calling? No tengo la menor idea. In the mean time, Go Frank!

44
I mean, to have any real memories of K-State in the Final 4 you are at least 65 years old.
This makes me very, very sad. Coach Altman mentioned the 'almost' Final Four in '88. That plus the 'almost' Final Four in 2010 are two of my fondest memories of K-State basketball. (and I wasn't even a legitimate 'Cat fan in '88!). Losing Lon and losing Frank are two of my worst K-State basketball memories.

All that said, you have to give Frank some props. He gets his guys to play tough and to love one another. In tight situations where you need to manufacture 'luck,' that's important. I think Frank is firmly at S. Carolina until Larranaga retires and the U comes calling. I hope he wins the whole damn thing this year. Are two more opposite personalities than Roy and Frank?

45
Knowing what we know now, the probability would've been pretty good. But, we would've needed some additional talent (especially a big or two). Would've been fun to watch . . .

Did Hocutt hire Larranaga? (instead of Frank . . . ) I can't remember if he had already gone to TTU yet.

47
I don't think the K-State women or Frank's Cocks have much of a chance at winning their next games.
You're really harshing my buzz, MIR. Geez!

48
How did everyone feel about Frank's suit?
It was 100% Frank. It's part of his charm (oversized, ill-fitting suits). Does he have Gamecock cowboy boots yet?

49
Doesn't look like purple to me, more pink?

I think General Myers is focused on the AD search. Next priority is to make sure there is a bona fide succession plan for our football program. We may want to keep all basketball discussion to the WBB team and South Carolina/Frank. That's all that matters at this point. I think oscar earned his 'pass' for the next few months.

What are the Lady 'Cats' chances against Stanford? Stanford's really good, no?

Can Frank take down Baylor?

50
Me too, unconditionally.
