It all started in a small classroom in Beattie, KS in 1987 when my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Laurie Wright, asked for a show of hands who liked K-State and who liked KU. Being a third grade girl whose parents weren't sports fanatics, I had no idea the difference between the two. With a sense of panic, the only thing that came to mind was the playground saying I had heard many times, "K-State is great, KU PU." Hesitantly, I raised my hand for K-State. I felt a little better learning Mrs. Wright was a K-State fan (but she married a KU fan).
That afternoon after getting home from school, I immediately asked my dad, "Dad - who do we like? K-State or KU?" Without hesitation my dad said, "You are a farm girl, you have to like K-State." I can remember a sense of relief at that moment that I had answered that question correctly.
Since that day, there has NEVER been a time I have ever thought about wavering from that decision.
I constantly (especially this past week) have people asking why I don't root for "the other Kansas school" when they aren't playing K-State. For me, it would feel like a betrayal to root for KU as I am so passionate about the Kansas State Wildcats. To some, I am sure it is incomprehensible, but I know there are other Kansas State fans out there that share a similar passion for our school.
You see, Kansas State fans are passionate. Kansas State fans are loyal. We don't have endless conference or national championships to our name. We are accustomed to "blue collar" work and savor every win.
Do we like to win, absolutely! Do we abandon the bandwagon when the going gets tough, absolutely not! Do we support only one sport? Not a chance.
I am a proud and passionate alumni of Kansas State University. What is your story?

I choose to be part of a couple of these groups (including Salute) in part for this reason. We have to be honest, these groups are much more representational of our fan base than message boards like gE or even gP. In talking to most "normal" people, people like us are in a separate category of fan, message boarders are just seen as a different breed. Far more people have Facebook and become part of K-State fan groups there, especially the "older" fans.

both are extremes. most of the fanbase are normal people that occasionally go to games as entertainment, are capable of critically evaluating a team or coach, but just don't care that much if the team is good or not in any given year.
Yep, but these ppl are very prone to repeating stupid talking points as gospel, when they meet other wildwildcats. They spend zero time thinking about it other than during a game. They are the most guilty of spreading stupidity, imo.

I don't think it would hold that many. Liberty hall is like 400 or maybe less.
But you're probably right. Lawrence concerts draw heavily from joco/topeka being 30 minutes away.
MHK really needs an indie theater tho

That tripped my memory because I watched college gameday, went to the basketball game, then went to Tula's Out of Bounds to watch the football game. I rode Robert Archibald pretty hard that day. My roommate at the time was pissed because he wanted me to go to the football game with him, he hated basketball.
Shame yourself time but back then I liked CBB more than I liked CFB. I watched so many games, if it were a thing then I could have done a fantastic CBB podcast.

I was wondering in chat: why do coaches in general seem to undervalue shooting so much? Is Patrick so bad at defense that we can't try to get him a few attempts a game? I mean he can't be worse at defense than Maurice, can he?

really i just thought it was more provocative to put iwu before wade, i don't think there's much difference between the two. they can both make a 3 if they're open and have time to set themselves up. if you put a gun to their head and made them get up 200-250 attempts in a season, neither would have an acceptable %.

Jay Feeley will always be the worst analyst I've ever seen. In this year's TX State-Ohio game he got indignant and condescending because at the end of the game, with TX State down 3 with the ball inside the Ohio 5, they were going for a touchdown. He kept going on about how TX State was stupid for not just kicking the FG. When the play-by-play guy asked why he was advocating for TX State to settle for OT, he snapped back about TX State not just kicking for the win now. The play-by-play was the most professional I've ever seen and didn't humiliate Jay. TX State eventually had to kick a FG for OT and the play-by-play just let it go.

To me, HOW you made the tournament is much more telling about the direction of a program than IF you made the tournament. Sneaking into the tournament after a slow start where you had to fight back and have a great finish to the season leads to optimism about the future and coach, whereas a good start devolving into an embarrassing finish where you only get in because it's an awful field and you managed to not be quite as awful as a couple others leads to a much different opinion about the direction of the program despite perhaps identical seeds in the tournament.

At literally any other job where you are in a similar managerial/GM/CEO position, it is unforgivable to fail to hit minimum performance expectations three years in a row.
To 33's point, you can also look to the actual coaching and team trajectory throughout the year to judge a coach, which is why I think most of us agree oscar should be gone regardless. But failing to make the Tournament once again should be automatic.

I don't think Parrish is arguing against a tipping point (or fulcrum if you will :) ), I think he's saying its stupid to have that tipping point be based on the last 2-3% of a coaches tenure at any school when you have plenty of data available to make a decision. In the case of his two examples, I think his point is valid and both coaches probably should be fired based on their body of work. Retaining either one because they squeak into the tournament for a game in Dayton is dumb.Exactly. Let the five full seasons (or 20 seasons in oscar's case) decide his fate, not 2-3 games. He asked if I knew who was hiring and I named a few places that were nearby. Then I left and went to a few places to put in a recommendation, and most seemed like they wouldn't give him a chance. When I got to Kites I talked to a manager, I explained that sometimes people just need a break or something to go their way. He said that he'd actually give him an interview. So I was happy that I could help so I went to look for Javier to tell him. I walked around the park and Aggieville for about an hour and couldn't find him so I left a note at Burger King because they said he frequented there. But I really wanted him to know about the interview because all you need is a something to go your way to change your fortune. I called in today to find out if he showed or interviewed yet, I'm still waiting to hear back. I know I'm not the only one who has helped Javier because the cashier said others have bought him meals. But today it got me thinking about Manhattan as a whole and the whole family aspect at K-State. Coach Snyder talks about how he came he because of the people and returned because of the people. I agree that's what separates Manhattan and K-State from others is the people. It just really touches my heart that there are still wonderful people in this world who would help someone in need instead of looking down on them. I'm grateful that I was homeless in Manhattan and not somewhere else and I feel comfortable that Javier will be taken care of by the wonderful citizens in the Little Apple. My biggest 'feeling like a douchey doucher douche' came from an encounter with homeless man. Twas also in Manhattan as well. I was hit up by a homeless guy asking for money. I offered to buy him a meal instead and he accepted. We walked to Arby's, i asked him what he wanted, Roast Beef N' Cheddar guy. Anyways, he said hed just wait outside while i got food. Ordered it, went back outside, dude was nowhere to be found. Being hungry myself, and after waiting a while with no sign of him. i went back in and starting eating his meal. I look up mid-stuffing my stupid face and staring at me through the window was said homeless man with most heart-broken puppy dog look on his face, shook his head and then just walked away. Anyways, every time i go to Arbys now i immediately feel like a horrible person who inadvertently tortures the needy by eating their meal right in front of them

I know the "rule"...one game at a time, but it wouldn't surprise me if KSU went 3 - 0 over the next three games. Likewise, it wouldn't surprise me if they went 1 - 2. (By the way, I'm NOT overlooking Baylor. We did that once before and it cost us a shot at a NC.)
The truth is, I've always liked it more when the Cats are the underdogs. I love the fact that a lot of sports broadcasters are already dismissing Oklahoma's game with KSU as an after thought.
I think the rest of the season is either going to be fun and unpredictable or miserable.

It's not just free schooling, which should be the primary concern, what with so very few of them going pro afterwards. It's also the ability to bump other students in and out of classes so that it works better for whatever semester they play in, the regimented and prepared diets while the rest of us eat whatever Kramer is serving that day, the specialized housing, the personalized tutoring that's provided, the ability to have their own class test dates, the elbow rubbing with boosters and donors that leads to a professional network prior to graduation, the intercession of the university on an athletes behalf whenever there are issues with other roommates or a landlord, and misdemeanors that just disappear.
I had friends on the football, baseball, track, rowing, and equestrian teams while at K-State and witnessed each of the above occur at least once in my years there. Now, none of this had any effect on me obtaining my degree. But it's laughable to suggest that your average student has the even close to the same experience that a scholarship athlete does at a major university.

This is a good point, but the offense is very different. The KU offensive line is real bad, but Lackluster Lance knows this and has installed an offense that get the ball out very quickly.

It doesn't. Their sacks won't significantly increase the rest of the year because they throw 90% of their passes within 5 yards of the LOS. Sacks are down, offense is a horror show.
