I also disagree with the fundamental premise of the article. Whether people disagree over when a tipping point occurs, there is always going to be a last straw, so ultimately certain games do become make or break for coaches.

I don't think Parrish is arguing against a tipping point (or fulcrum if you will :) ), I think he's saying its stupid to have that tipping point be based on the last 2-3% of a coaches tenure at any school when you have plenty of data available to make a decision. In the case of his two examples, I think his point is valid and both coaches probably should be fired based on their body of work. Retaining either one because they squeak into the tournament for a game in Dayton is dumb.

Yes, and it was a good point.

I agree that theoretically it shouldn't make much of a difference.  But when you fire someone in any job, you usually want something tangible to point to.  Probably more so when the hiring/firing is very public.

Exactly. Let the five full seasons (or 20 seasons in oscar's case) decide his fate, not 2-3 games.   In my opinion the argument Parrish is making is that he should be fired even if he makes the tournament, not retained if he doesn't.

You have five full seasons. A losing conference record over three seasons. Three straight bottom half conference finishes. A losing home conference record. Average to below average recruiting. Those are more tangible and relevant than the outcome of a handful of games that will honestly be largely dependent on luck/randomness.

Personally, I think it is a minority of people who think oscar should keep his job just for getting into the Tourney, and I think whoever our new AD is will see it the same way, so I think the article is underestimating things on that front.

That said, there is no benefit to firing oscar now. And I don't think you can fire him if you get to a Final Four or something, so yes, these next few games are make or break for oscar.

I've said that for a long time. I agree with it. Only I think his line of thinking should have prevented oscar from being hired in the first place.

Yes you have, I thought of you when I read it. I tend to agree as well, if you thought oscar should be fired last week (or last year) then nothing has happened to change that.

I thought of me

They are average to below average, relative to the conference. IMO
