Mohammed Omar, who formed the Taliban, and his followers emerged from the _______________.

Mohammed Omar was the chosen leader of the ISI. .  The Taliban is derivative from Talibs  and was born from the fight against the Mujahedeen warlords who controlled Afghanistan after the Russians left.

Of which the US used the Northern warlords to oust the Taliban.

First off, CIA funding dwindled to nearly nothing years before the Taliban even came into existence (and was funneled through Pakistan).  So if you're trying to say the U.S. directly armed the Taliban, you're wrong (as usual).

The Taliban was formed by Pashtun clerics and students, some of which were in the Mujahedeen at some point in time, but had become disillusioned in the control of Afghanistan by the actual former Mujahedeen warlords.   Substantial rank and file came from the students in the schools.   The Pakistani's and the Saudi's created the Taliban, they just happened to have a leader with Mujahideen ties.

In fact the new Mujahideen now resists the Taliban in Panjshir.

There is not a credible mineral survey for Afghanistan in existence.

So the DOD, in a classified study entitled "Afghanistan:  The Saudi Arabia of Lithium" didn't know WTH they were talking about?  (Albeit Lithium is only sorta a rare earth mineral)

The U.S. military did not conduct broad scale spectral surveys?

The USGS research of Afghanistan was all wrong?

Did we not push $200 million to them as late as 1992?

So the Generals coerced the USGS to start making things up?

Link?

As of Feb 2000, there were thousands of illegal mines with their extractions sold by warlords and the Taliban to fund their efforts.   Is that a lie?

Not really.  You don’t need to coerce someone to say there is maybe some lithium buried in some shitty mountains that could never be mined for any profit and we’d be better off mining the moon.

Those wild speculations are sparkly things for dumb people to seize onto.

How much lithium did we mine there in past 20 years?

As late as 1991 Charlie Wilson persuaded the House Intelligence Committee to continue the funding of the Mujahideen, providing them with $200 million for fiscal year 1992.

We didn't mine any, that's why analysts far and wide were talking about the missed opportunities.   Karzai was apparently just lying straight out of his ass, which wouldn't be surprising I suppose.

So 2000 mines apparently just pulling out regular old rocks to fund various warlords and the Taliban.   I wonder who was buying the regular old rocks.

I never figured the USGS would get on a military industrial complex level conspiracy, but apparently they did.

Any links?

FFY 1992 ended in October, the Taliban wasn't formed until September of 1994.

The money wasn't funneled through the Pakistani's?
