Damn. I thought I had owned you, guess I shouldn’t expect to own a Bay Area person that easily.

I am ok being the weird family on the phone thing.

My middle schooler doesn't have one and as of now we don't plan on getting her one until she starts driving.

I don’t get the smart phone’s are bad for kids thing.  Aren’t ya’ll just letting them watch nonstop on an iPad?

The screen time isn't the issue, it's how all of these other children use their phones. One of my daughter's female classmates showed her anime porn in school last week, she's in the 6th grade. Also the bullying thing is for real, especially on electronic devices. One thing you'll discover one day is if you're a good parent you spend a lot of time undoing the work of shitty parents who are either inattentive, ineffective, or both. It's much easier to raise my kids when they don't have unfettered access to the bad rough ridin' kids from bad rough ridin' millennial and gen x parents.

Yes, pretty much this.

Gen x think their kids do no wrong

Millennials think their kids doing wrong is cute

I think the parent generation thing is overblown. I know this is anecdotal, but I grew up with a bunch of shithead kids raised by terrible Boomer parents too.

I know phones create a whole new set of problems, but I don’t think any previous generation of parents would have handled it any better.

IMO one of the hardest parts with phones is the addiction. Mid-pandemic we shut off wifi for two hours a day because they were just online constantly and it wasn't pretty when we did because they were addicted to the crap. But it got better.

Mrs. Hamburg does a good job with our kids. On weekdays the TV or Kindles don’t get turned on until 5pm when she starts making dinner.

Nowhere near it yet, but the part that worries me most is the ability to create a permanent record of stupid kid stuff.

What made it extra hard is like all their socializing was virtual too.

Yeah, mine are 6 & 4. Trying to figure what’s appropriate for older kids so they could still socialize must have been a pain in the ass

I don't worry about technology any more than anything else. I just do my best to teach them right from wrong, safe vs. unsafe, good vs. bad, and things like that.

Maybe they're just trying to reclaim the Roman Salute in order to diminish Hitler's power?

I saw a Facebook thread where a parent literally said "for all we know they were re-enacting the movie inglorious bastards and someone snapped a pic of that. Should we punish Quentin tarantino for making such a film?"

I remember photoshopping flyers to make it look like some students running for school president were Nazis. If that were today I fully expect that at least a dozen woke 30 year olds would be dragging me mercilessly on Twitter.

Calling the school to deal with stuff that happened outside of school on IG is a big part of the reason why those crap head kids were up to that nonsense in the first place.

Parents were discussing it but it was definitely led by kids looking for the school to do something. It's not much different from the Jaden Mcneil situation, really.

Yep. Thinking through the dumb ignorant stuff I did as a kid, I’m not sure how you respond to that level of scrutiny without falling into a clique that just perpetuates more of the same behavior.

It actually sounds a lot more like asking the school to expel the kool kats klub girls.

They were doing the Hitler salute on IG. Getting called out for that isn't some insane level of scrutiny.
