Those aren’t as bad as this one dude I know who messaged a coworker accusing her of whoring around.

That's top notch

So the company I work for has bought a few other local companies recently and kept them as separate divisions. One of these has a position open that I'm interested in, what's the protocol here? Let my supervisor know? Let hr know? Procrastinate and feel regret later?

Tell your boss you have interest before applying.

I would agree on letting your boss know for the most part.

However, have a friend who was offered a position in a different office within my old company.  He let his boss know.  Boss countered the offer.  Buddy declined and said he wanted to try out the other office(moving from Atlanta to Chicago).  Boss fired him on the spot because he was pissed he wouldn't take the counter.  Didn't end up getting either job.  to be fair, he said f the company altogether and went somewhere else.  The other offer was still on the table.

Moral of story.  If your boss is an a-hole. Screw him.  If not, let him know.  A good boss is supportive of advancement.

i thought that was probably the best option all along, but i didn't want to say so and appear unsupportive.

Yes, but not a substantial amount. And the pros far outweigh the cons with this much employment equity imo. I’ve reached the point that I have freedom to build my team however I want, wherever I want. Also I work for a Swiss company and the Euros have some pretty ridiculous incentives for tenure. At this point (15 years with Co) I get a 14%(!!) salary match for my 401k (I have a pension that they quit funding and now they just dump an assload more to my 401k), better than industry bonus structure, long term incentive plans on top of that, 36 days of paid time off a year + the usual holidays, a bunch of other crunchy perks.

Next time I look to see what is out there, I'm going to probably have to weigh current comfort into the equation way more than in the past.  Previously, it's almost always been about salary.

 :surprised:

Do you plan to retire early and have an idea about when you'd be able to?

I’ve got several dozen children of undetermined intelligence/drive so right now there are no plans

That's a sweet match. My IRL bud has been with same company since graduation as well. He's retiring at 52. No kids bleeding him dry. So he's been fully funding for 20+ years.

Sounds like you're an airline pilot. They get 15-16% direct contribution because the company expects half of them to croke/medical out by age 50.
