That's a sweet match. My IRL bud has been with same company since graduation as well. He's retiring at 52. No kids bleeding him dry. So he's been fully funding for 20+ years.

What is Rule 72(t)?
Rule 72(t) allows penalty-free withdrawals from IRA accounts and other tax-advantaged retirement accounts like 401(k) and 403(b) plans. It is issued by the Internal Revenue Service. To take advantage of this rule, the owner of the retirement account must take at least five substantially equal periodic payments (SEPPs), and the amount of the payments depend on the owner’s life expectancy as calculated through IRS-approved methods.

I miss my unlimited time off. imo, most people who crap on it haven't had it. I thought it was great.

I don't even know what unlimited time off means.

What, you can just work whenever you feel like it?  Is it paid time off?

It's unlimited until you take too much, and then you just get fired.

I have unlimited vacation and I've tried to make the most of it and not work when I go on vacation.

The biggest advantage is I started taking days off to go to weekday day Oakland A's games. I would never take a paid day to go to a dumb baseball game, but hell yeah I will with unlimited PTO. Plus I can send a few emails in the morning and not really miss much.

But yeah overall I'd rather just get 4 weeks or whatever.

Do you guys measure vacation in full 7 day weeks or 5 day business weeks? This is something I've always wondered about other people.

Like is 4 weeks 28 days or 20 days?

20 everywhere that I've been.  I've seen people shocked it's not 28 but can't imagine a business exists that does it that way.

We moved into a new office a couple of months ago that has TV's mounted on the walls. For the first couple of months they were not setup but on Monday they magically started working but there are only 3 channels we can choose from.

1. Fox News
2. The Weather Channel
3. CNBC

On monday the TV closest to my desk was on the weather channel most of the day and I changed it to CNBC.

This morning I came in and it was on Fox News so I changed it back to CNBC as I was walking to my desk.

I just got back from lunch and it had been changed back to Fox News.

How far/petty should I take the changing of the channel war that has just started? I'm about 90% sure I know who is changing the channel but they have not done it in front of me and honestly I don't care besides the whole "Winning the channel changing war" thing.

Just in days. I’ve never heard it referred to as weeks.

steve dave has only worked one place so of course he's only heard of it one way. I have worked many places and have always heard it measured in weeks (1 week = 5 days) when like looking at bullet points as a job offer. Like, 2 weeks vacation or 1 week vacation in year 1, 2 weeks year 2, 3 weeks year 5 or something. Increases generally go up in 1week/5 day/40 hour increments.

And then it's usually translated into a rate where you get 1/26 of 2 weeks or whatever added to your PTO balance every paycheck. That's how it's been at most functioning organizations I've worked for.

Granted I've only worked at one place for the last four years where it's been unlimited. Recently they asked us to put the vacation requests into ADP! Even though it's unlimited! (really it's probably good because more people take not enough rather than too much)

I’ve only worked for one company but interview and hire shitloads of people from other companies and adjacent sectors. I think it’s probably industry culture on time off/vacation/PTO. In financial services (and being a professional pilot) it’s days.

My last job separated vacation (increases by weeks/five days) and "flex holidays" or some bullshit. I think you had to take a flex day every quarter or something. Made no sense to me
