Essentially Flyertalk / Re: midlife crises

not really midlife crisis related but I've been really horny for marcus aurelius lately and that kind of stoicism would benefit a lot of midlife crisis havers I think and pete's posts made me think of it.

If you have audible get the version of Meditations read by Duncan Steen. He could make reading the phone book interesting.

Meditations is pretty good, probably my favorite

“Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present.”
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

need to get back into this. I was doing ok for a while and tried meditating a couple days a week or whatever. Its really hard, but man, those times where you get locked in are pretty freaking great. I can sometimes do it in the sauna and its such a great feeling. Been a while though.

Also, we are getting dangerously close to merging with the getting old ballz thread.

The Manual (enchiridion) - Epictetus (I don’t like this narrator so much)

https://www.audible.com/pd/B071HY6C79?source_code=ASSORAP0511160006&share_location=library_overflow

The Enchiridion & Discourses - Epictetus (much better narrator than other book. Read by Haward B Morse)

Letters from a stoic - Seneca

https://www.audible.com/pd/0241429641?source_code=ASSORAP0511160006&share_location=library_overflow

Marcus Aurielius’ meditations/journal is really hard on himself, and that can sometimes get me down. Seneca and Epictetus are less overbearing imo.

Kudos to Pete for posting real crap itt.

1. Put relationship w/ God (or higher power) above all else. Carve out time for this.
2. Take on worldview of abundance, shun scarcity worldview. Look for reasons to be grateful and meditate in thankfulness.
3. Focus on nutrition, health, sleep. treat your mind and body with love.
4. Speak less, do more, especially to help others and those in need.
5. Want/desire less.
6. Pay less/little attention to anything divisive.
7. Find hobbies activities pertaining to life (gardening, pets, lawn care/landscaping, growing indoor plants, raising chickens etc.).

I say these things not because, I’ve accomplished them or have mastered them. I’ve dealt with crippling anxiety, depression, self-pity and resentment, etc. at times over the past couple of years specifically.

Pride and ego are killers of peace of mind.

Sorry, I must have missed something, despite reading the last page twice.

How did liking/hating Colorado football become about racism?
Beats me but there was a Spaces about it

?t=GDtKmrEJcG4H4Svp6H_lQw&s=19

That seems to be a question and not a declarative statement, right? Isn't that the same thing we're doing here?

Not entirely applicable, but it’s a common move among journalists to phrase assertions in the form of a question, especially in headlines and sub-headers.

Structured perfectly for our guy Tang to command a nice raise should he perform admirably over the next 2-3 seasons.

I liked that Willie played Rock/Scissors/Paper with the Golden Knight mascot pregame.

I’d rather him have lit that ass up.

Those of you guys still in your 30s or even early 40s who are scared of a potential midlife crisis, if you want to avoid that try and talk your wife or partner into having a child in your mid to late 40s, you'll find purpose real quick, particularly if that child is a rowdy little boy.

Uh. Pretty sure that path is what caused my MLC.  Probably would have gone without one if it wasn’t for a toddler in my mid 40s.

Same, along with anxiety, insecurity and self-doubt. But it’s all good.

Cats holding strong at No. 17 in the Massey Composite despite the Mizzou loss.

Doing well among 1-loss teams in the Colley Matrix as well (though still a small sample for this).

I've been trying to find a new one since they quit making mine. I'm just going to randomly buy the ones you guys post, thanks!

Please post pics of your scent bar. I’m sure your setup will be wonderful.

Aue naturale. Does deodorant count?

Same, I'm not sure I've worn cologne since maybe high school? Prob did in college a bit. Seems unnecessary at this point in my life.

I can't imagine that anyone who regularly showers and wipes after pooping would need anything close to nicname's doseage. Nicname must have a pong that I've only ever encountered from a few Middle-eastern Uber drivers.

If they can’t smell you 15 minutes after you leave … were you ever there?

Lil nicname is 2.5 and absolutely hates the happy birthday song. Whenever he hears it he immediately becomes irate/cries.

Noticed it after a few birthday parties.

Had to see for sure the other night. Said to mrs nicname, “watch this,” and started singing it to him. He covered his ears, made a sour face and almost fell on the floor whining. He plays it up, but it really bothers him.

He’s recently developed a disdain for sharing, at least with his food. We (mrs nicname, nicname Jr and me) also like to tease him about this. We see him eating strawberries or whatever and say “oh, share lil nicname?”

And he says “no share!!” Sometimes he gets real gravelly-voiced when he says it and it’s very .

He also loves football and lately he’s taken a liking to running with the football and also tackling, but what he does is he just runs at you and tackles you whether he has the ball of you do. It’s like a little bowling ball ramming into your legs.

He’s real forceful about it too. Like, we’ll be watching the cats and he’ll be like “daddy,” and he’ll pay the ground like, “come down here and play ball.” He won’t even play catch, just wants to tackle. Tackle, but also help up. He grunts when he helps you up.

He also likes to leave flavor ice type popsicle wrappers all over the house, and walks around saying “popsieekoh! yellow” or whatever color it is.

How I apply cologne; do this and be a legit badass:

neck - 4 sprays, along the collar line
underarm* - three sprays each
wrist/forearm - 3 sprays each
naval - 2 sprays
groin -1 spray
rear - 1 spray

*omit if wearing deodorant (unscented or from the same product line as cologne only)

Thank me later

As big a Prime guy as I am (prob top 10% pro Primr bbs posters in the USA), and as much fun as it is to laugh at hayseed fans celebrating CU’s whippin, this is really nothing from Lanning.

Coaches will use anything and everything to get their kids to play with an edge. Lanning seems to be a big disrespect/us against the world type motivator. Oregon being Oregon makes the comments about flash seem hollow to fans, but ge obviously wants his program and players to be nasty, tough and vengeful.

He’ll probably play the disrespect card all season.

Also thought Prime handled the loss with grace, responsibility and humility. He’s great.

I know for a fact that Steve Dave uses this tact with his 13U girls basketball team (or whatever)

I use it for some of the teams I coach. Disrespect is a massive motivator. I prefer the Tang style, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

“You wanna know what they think about you? Nothing. They don’t. They been beating teams with <insert team name here> on the front the uniform for years. They don’t think they have to bring it today. They don’t respect you.

Now let’s go win a damn fight!”

Above is obv not tang style.

I like Mizzou being ranked. They’re gonna show to be pretty decent this season, and a tough out at home.

Just want to point out that the type of interceptions Will has thrown this season are the best kind. Far better than whatever it was the UCF qb thought he was doing several times last night.

20
Looked like a good, clean hit. Even managed to spit the mouthpiece out afterwards.

Despite a few turnovers and big hits, it was nice to see KU’s defense remains essentially Grade A Swiss cheese.

Is it just me or does Will Howard throw the most confident interceptions in college football? He’s had one each game so far (I don’t think this will continue). Each and every interception has been him stepping confidently into his throw and assuredly making the poor decision to attempt said intercepted pass.

Anyway here are Will’s 2023 per game stats and projected season numbers based on these per game numbers.

Will Howard
295-451, 3,484 yds, 26 TD, 13 INT
Per game: 23-35, 268 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT

91 rush, 400 yds, 16 TD
Per game: 7 rush, 31 yds, 1.25 TD
