Only way to find out if Nic's new SA friends are racist is to get them to post here

I couldn’t remember, but when I asked my wife if she remembered them even mentioning anything about racial attacks or black people or anything like that and she didn’t. They were basically just saying there was just tons of violent crime, robberies, kidnappings, etc., like it was the Wild West or something.

Knew some SA'n truck drivers that worked silage harvest in the states half the year

Comically (like 1950's southerner) Racist

Did know a revolving crew of SA dudes who did custom cutting on a crew w a few hs buddies. Don’t remember if they were hugely racist, but there was always a black dude or two around as well, so prob not the best environment for racism detecting.

Of course they moved to Germany lol

Like I said, they didn’t seem like the type to make up stories.

Elon doing what he did with his ai is not good obv, which is really the point of the convo imo.
To be clear, I'm implying they're Nazis

Seems like a weird thing to imply.

I’d never heard of South Africa being a dangerous place until my wife and I met a couple on a work trip dinner this past September. They were both natives/born in SA, but moved to Germany in 2005 or so. We’re prob in their early to mid 50s at the time we spoke. I can’t remember any real specifics, but they were telling legit horror stories about how bad things had gotten in SA even then.

I’m talking barricaded windows, and extra locks/super strong security type doors inside the house, being mugged several times, etc. They definitely didn’t seem like the type to make up stories.

This wasn’t a big news story at the time of the conversation and it was pretty random how it came up.

Also, never heard of the white rock thing, but have heard of the pineapples and looked for them today for some reason in my neighborhood… didn’t see any.

I have lived in this house for 9 years and one of my diagonal neighbors introduced himself today as I took the trash can to the street. He's lived in that house since the 80's. I have a giant tree in the front yard (no clue what kind) and he told me he calls them "Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) trees" because the branches will spur off in random locations.

Now the only neighbor I haven't talked to is the people that moved next door 3 years ago.

Whenever I move to a new neighborhood/town, which is rare these days, I’m always excited to get to know my neighbors and hang out and stuff. But what usually happens is I don’t make the first move and then I feel like it’s too late to become buds, so I just wave awkwardly and stuff.

This is especially pronounced in the neighborhood I live in now, where you can go for days without seeing someone aside from exiting or entering the garage. All the other places I’ve lived were more normal neighborhoods w people parking on the street, having big front porches, hanging out outside, etc., so you end up getting more acquainted with people without trying.

Ant is pure joy. Last night while he was on the bench someone on his team made a three and the camera cut to him standing there, big smile, jawing away, and making his weird Spiderman hand signs in the general direction of the crowd.

I saw this for the first time last night and lmao

So many games where one team leads by 10-20 for basically the entire game and then finds a way to lose in the last five minutes.

Insane finish by the Pacers lol

The NBA playoffs are the best
unbelievable.  shades of reggie miller vs the knicks 8 in 9.
I'm the biggest Reggie Miller stan I've ever met but Haliburton is on his way to surpassing him as greatest Pacer OAT if he keeps this kind of ish up.

Miller was a 5x all star and 3x all-NBA third team. Def within reach

how did you become a pacers fan?
a combination of paternal family being from Indiana and the 1998 NBA season being around the time I started paying attention to professional sports. Plus the elite combination of Reggie Miller and Detlef Schrempf in NBA Jam

I’ve wanted to read this book but haven’t gotten around to it. I enjoyed Burnham’s “The Machiavellian’s.”

Nic, I really can't tell when you're faking anymore. What's your stance on fluoride in drinking water?

I don’t know if flouride amounts found in drinking water are dangerous or not. Probably doesn’t hurt for it not to be in things like drinking water or toothpaste. It’s always good to have scientists continue to try to tear down consensus, especially if science says something is safe.

The outright rejection of learned authority out of hand is a troubling symptom of the anti-intellectualism movement driven by Trump that is sweeping the country. There is some RFK Jr. in you.
I mean, arguing that it’s best for scientists to continue to test and try to disprove theory/consensus/prevailing thought, even consensus, is the backbone of the scientific method and academia. To argue that it’s anti-intellectual is a pretty rough argument to make.

You have drank it everyday of almost your entire life bud.

Well, my pineal gland certainly isn’t decalcified. I mean, we used to have lead in paint and asbestos in insulation. Also, I’ve used filtered water most of my life, including now with our top-shelf reverse osmosis system from EcoWater.

Also, Wichita’s public water is not fluoridated.

Most top tier water filtration systems filter out fluoride.
