I have lived in this house for 9 years and one of my diagonal neighbors introduced himself today as I took the trash can to the street. He's lived in that house since the 80's. I have a giant tree in the front yard (no clue what kind) and he told me he calls them "Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) trees" because the branches will spur off in random locations.
Now the only neighbor I haven't talked to is the people that moved next door 3 years ago.
Whenever I move to a new neighborhood/town, which is rare these days, I’m always excited to get to know my neighbors and hang out and stuff. But what usually happens is I don’t make the first move and then I feel like it’s too late to become buds, so I just wave awkwardly and stuff.
This is especially pronounced in the neighborhood I live in now, where you can go for days without seeing someone aside from exiting or entering the garage. All the other places I’ve lived were more normal neighborhoods w people parking on the street, having big front porches, hanging out outside, etc., so you end up getting more acquainted with people without trying.
