The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / Re: Noah smith, liar or dumbass?
« on: April 19, 2024, 09:56:50 PM »
Don't millennials/genZers pretty much have to have more education? Not sure if it's just hyperbole but I keep hearing more and more stories of positions requiring a 4 yr degree when the job description quite frankly doesn't even require a full high school education.
One primary source anecdote: Mrs BAC (works for Satan in O&G) mentioned that they have job openings for admins. She also noted that all of the current admins... Most of which have been working there between 15-20 years, are not qualified for the new hire admin positions they are looking to fill

Probably some hyperbole, but younger millennials gen z and their parents have probably been hoodwinked a bit in this regard. There are a lot of god jobs out there that don’t require university or advanced degrees, but most of the managerial/hr/etc. type jobs do. Couple that with the high price of college nowadays and in recent times and the number of people getting worthless degrees or degrees for low-paying sectors and there you have it.

There are tons of good jobs in tech, manufacturing and the trades that don’t require advanced degrees.

Imo the trades are only going to become more valuable and less and less people will be able to do even the most menial of tasks in the future.

Isn’t a lot of this just fear, or the instilling of fear into people’s minds for various purposes? A tale as old as time?

Meaning what, exactly?

Not these charts/posts, the opposite. Imagery and information/opinions making people feel life is too hard, tougher on this generation or that one. That life is getting worse, etc.

yeah, I think real wages are up over the last 40 years. people are doing good as crap. people just like to bitch about grocery costs and housing and whatever. also keep in mind stuff we see as required to live today was luxurious years ago. we're fast on our way to the Wall-E lifestyle but still being slim because of miraculous GLP-1 miracle drugs.

People are convinced that we need what we want and that we want what we wouldn’t even notice if not for suggestion.

Starting in the fall I will have at least one child in high school for the next 13 years if they all go according to plan.

Wild to think of.

Needing to get rid of the sedan and going for with a little more size to comfortably fit my soon-to-be massive family.

My lasers are focused on the hyundai palisade.

Have you considered the Telluride?
They're basically the same, but in perusing around, I've found Tellurides to be a little more expensive. I think people see them as "cooler," which you pay a slight premium for.

Cooler and more “manly” imo. But you already know we have a Telluride. It’s wine color, which is dark purple with blacked out wheels and grill. Powercat “Alumni” (I think this is cheesy, but Mrs. Nicname likes (it’s “her” car tho!) tag on front and official ksu cats plate on back.

Get the same and we can be twins! Hyundai’s warranties are best in biz

Side note: I’m currently considering several options for “my” ride, which is a 2013 VW CC 6-speed manual w 216k miles and no working a/c.

Options include:

Fixing ac which is like 12-16 Hundo for a pretty old car (that I actually love driving).
Purchasing something cheap, economic and reliable … used 2008-2012 Ford Focus or something similar.
Purchasing my exact same car (VW CC 6-speed manual) with low miles. I’ve found as low as 50k.
Purchasing a new or very slightly used 2023 or newer Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV.

Prob won’t trade in the VW, would keep as a backup car.

How many open spots do we have left?

Sounds like Kaluma is leaning towards returning.

Dug
DDA
Glover
RJ
Castillo
Taj
Kaluma
Buddy
CJ
DNG

I think we are heavily pursuing Cliff from Rutgers so that would be 11.  Baba Miller would be 12.  Hopefully 13 is some under the radar mysrecruit with a high ceiling.

Really shaping up nicely

He’s still an active and quality poster on kso.
does he get in the same kind of "arguments" on kso?

No. But kso has basically banned politics in general. Don’t remember him being active on the old World Forum either.

Twitter is the worst version of everything and brings out the worst in people.

I should add that a lot more people probably could retire by 70, but want to live a more luxurious lifestyle than necessary.

And what does military intervention and whatnot have to do with it? US companies can by TVs produced thru near slave labor (we shouldn’t), and sell them to americans either way.
I’m not saying it’s right, but our standard of living (the prices we pay for things, the performance of our markets, etc.) depends upon our military power.

Also, the only reason we can spend on a deficit is because of our military might.

Anyone who wants to drastically slash our military and wall ourselves off from the world better not bitch when you cannot afford new cars and homes, and can’t retire before 70.  Again,  I’m not saying those things are required for a happy life, but I think loads of people on the left and libertarians are naive.

Most people can’t afford new cars or retire before 70 as it is my man. No one is suggesting walling the US off from the world. Buying and selling would be just fine without a massive worldwide military apparatus.
