What happens if Clemson beats VA tech, and osu wins? Could we move ahead of ou, Houston, and tech into 8th guaranteeing us a bcs bowl?

I was pretty sure Cotton would take OU over KSU, but OU has been complete dogshit the past few games. Might be just enough.
As for Sugar, Clemson could still eff things up, but KSU's chances actually look pretty good. Houston is out, and I'm not sure Michigan is going to make the top 14. That means 2 open spots for Boise, TCU, and KSU. VT takes one of those spots if Clemson wins.
No way the ACC gets two teams.
So.......we're cheering for VT, right?
No way the ACC gets two teams.
So...If these fagatroids from Blacksburg get in after getting trounced by a very very decent-at-best Clemson team I am going to be livid.
KSU gonna find a way to get a rule written this year.

OSU is the team that will have the rule written. This team getting left out of the championship game is a rough ridin' joke.
The joke was OSU losing in Ames, but no title shot for OSU would be close 2nd.
Cats vs hogs would have been great.
Clemson rolling VT now...
Cats will move up to #9 won't they?

I bet Mich St will if they win. Wisconsin I'm not so sure about
So, does this mean KSU finishes #8 in the BCS tomorrow? If one of the AQ conferences only gets 1 team in the BCS despite having 2 teams in the top 8, that's a crock of crap.

I believe it's the K-State Rule (really)
Automatic qualification
1. The top two teams in the final BCS Standings shall play in the National Championship Game.
2. The champions of the Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, and Southeastern conferences will have automatic berths in one of the participating bowls through the 2013 regular season.
3. The champion of Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Sun Belt Conference, or the Western Athletic Conference will earn an automatic berth in a BCS bowl game if either:
A. Such team is ranked in the top 12 of the final BCS Standings, or,
B. Such team is ranked in the top 16 of the final BCS Standings and its ranking in the final BCS Standings is higher than that of a champion of a conference that has an annual automatic berth in one of the BCS bowls.
No more than one such team from Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Sun Belt Conference, and the Western Athletic Conference shall earn an automatic berth in any year. (Note: a second team may be eligible for at-large eligibility as noted below.) If two or more teams from those conferences satisfy the provisions for an automatic berth, then the team with the highest finish in the final BCS Standings will receive the automatic berth, and the remaining team or teams will be considered for at-large selection if it meets the criteria.
4. Notre Dame will have an automatic berth if it is in the top eight of the final BCS Standings.
5. If any of the 10 slots remain open after application of provisions 1 through 4, and an at-large team from a conference with an annual automatic berth for its champion is ranked No. 3 in the final BCS Standings, that team will become an automatic qualifier, provided that no at-large team from the same conference qualifies for the national championship game.
6. If any of the 10 slots remain open after application of provisions 1 through 5, and if no team qualifies under paragraph No. 5 and an at-large team from a conference with an annual automatic berth for its champion is ranked No. 4 in the final BCS Standings, that team will become an automatic qualifier provided that no at-large team from the same conference qualifies for the national championship game.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At-large eligibility
If there are fewer than 10 automatic qualifiers, then the bowls will select at-large participants to fill the remaining berths. An at-large team is any Football Bowl Subdivision team that is bowl-eligible and meets the following requirements:
A. Has won at least nine regular-season games, and
B. Is among the top 14 teams in the final BCS Standings.
No more than two teams from a conference may be selected, regardless of whether they are automatic qualifiers or at-large selections, unless two non-champions from the same conference are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the final BCS Standings.
If fewer than 10 teams are eligible for selection, then the Bowls can select as an at-large team any Football Bowl Subdivision team that is bowl-eligible, has won at least nine regular-season games and is among the top 18 teams in the final BCS Standings subject to the two-team limit noted above and also subject to the following: (1) if any conference has two or more teams in the top 14, then two of those teams must be selected and (2) from the teams ranked 15-18, a bowl can select only a team from a conference that has fewer than two teams in the top 14.
If expansion of the pool to 18 teams does not result in 10 teams eligible for selection, then the pool shall be expanded by blocks of 4 teams until 10 eligible teams are available subject to the two-team limit noted above and also subject to the following: (1) if any conference has two or more teams in the top 14, then two of those teams must be selected and (2) from the teams ranked 15 or lower, a bowl can select only a team from a conference that has fewer than two teams in the top 14.
Relative to the two preceding paragraphs, all teams ranked in the top 14, other than those from conferences which have already had two teams selected, must be included in the bowl selections.
Note: in order to participate in a BCS Bowl game, a team (i) must be eligible for post-season play under the rules of the NCAA and, if it not an independent, under the rules of its conference and (ii) must not have imposed sanctions upon itself prohibiting participation in a post-season game for infractions of the rules of the NCAA or the rules of its conference.
So wait is Houston still eligible for the BCS? I was just reading the selection rules and I'm now extremely confused.
If they stay top 14, they could theoretically get an at large.

Yeah. I just looked up the rules and I see nothing about the top 8 unless you are Notre Dame.
Does it matter if we are #8, though? I could easily see a BCS bowl taking Virginia Tech over us.
We will pass the following 3 loss teams in the Human Polls:
(Harris/USA Today)
#12/14 Georgia - 3 losses
#10/11 Oklahoma - 3 losses
#13/12 Wisky or #11/9 Sparty - either with 3 losses
Teams we might pass:
#6 Houston - exposed 1 loss posers
#4/3 Va Tech - worst SOS ever, but unlikely we pass

VT got beat by 4 touchdowns, they are done for the BCS. The BCS does plenty of stupid things, but not that stupid.

We will move up to #5 in the Computer polls and a minimum of #12 with a potential of #10 in the human polls. This could push us over Oregon or Boise (#9 & #10 in computers), and I don't think Sparty or Wisc will gain enough in the computers to pass us in the BCS. In other words, I think we'll be #8 in the next rankings...
Current Computer Avgs:
1 LSU
2 Alabama
3 Oklahoma State
4 Stanford
5 Oklahoma
6 Arkansas
6 Kansas State

well i'm somewhat sure that none of that crap matters/mattered and that if ksu cats won and osu won that it's ksu cats to the sugar bowl, but i guess we'll see. far from %100.I heard the same rd. I hope we are right.

No being #8 doesn't matter. We'd have to go all the way to 4 to get an autobid (assuming OSU is #3).
At this point things that really matter:
Does Michigan move into the top 14 making them a eligible
Does TCU get to 16 making them an automatic qualifier.
So wait is Houston still eligible for the BCS? I was just reading the selection rules and I'm now extremely confused.

Not that it matters because they won't be picked, but all you have to do to be an at-large is be top 14 with 9 wins. Hence the theoretically possible to be an at-large.
No way the Sugar takes TCU over us. They can't even fill up their tiny stadium, what makes anyone think they'd travel worth a damn?
I would rather have Alabama, but I can't see a scenario where we would play them.

TCU gets an auto-bid if they move into the top 16 because they won their conference and the Big East is so shitty.

Know what is ridiculous in this whole thing? That the conference that could be the best in the country probably won't have its 1 loss champ in the BCS championship game and its 2 loss runner-up is about 50/50 to even get into a BCS bowl

Yeah, we wouldn't be able to do crap offensively against Bama but their offense isn't good. Could see us getting beat like 27-7.

Our only hope would be if Alabama showed up flat and uninspired and didn't care about the game because they thought they would play for all the marbles while K-State treats it like the Super Bowl, like what happened to Bama against Utah in 2008
Stanford scares me more than Alabama. Luck would tear Cosh's zone defense two new assholes.
we would rack up 48 minutes of possession. maybe keep the ripped assholes in the 1.5 range
Well played sir.Yeah, we wouldn't be able to do crap offensively against Bama but their offense isn't good. Could see us getting beat like 27-7.
They would have to successfully convert two field goals to get to 27.
Have I mentioned how terrible it is discussing which team would kick our ass the most in a BCS game?
Oh man, imagine how great it would be to play TCU in the Sugar Bowl.

i know because it's a waste of time. we'll win. we already beat the best quarterback (RGIII) the best coach (Mack) and a bunch of other teams. maybe you should buy in.
There's no real shot of OSU jumping to the Championship game, right? So all the Bama talk and Fiesta talk is moot, right?

If at least 25% of the human voters vote them 2nd and everyone else votes them 3rd, they will get in.

I dunno...
TCU would have to jump Georgia, Houston, OU, and Sparty. Could happen.
UMich needs to jump, Georgia, Houston and/or Oklahoma. Could def. happen.
Houston staying ranked high and Clemson making a huge jump help us. We need Va Tech to FALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
I think it will be KSU vs Michigan in the Sugar. TCU won't get to 16.I would love this but I would run the risk of eating the poop I talked on them today on their board. I think we'd win so I still want this.

I don't think TCU has much of a chance. Clemson has a good shot at jumping them. Even if they don't both Georgia and Michigan St would have to fall below them.
I think Michigan moves ahead of at least Georgia. Then all they need to do is move ahead of Michigan St, or OU.
Just imagine what it would be like if we were waiting to see if we made it into an 8 team playoff field...

Alabama won't be pissed, they will be apathetic.
They will either be super :chainsaw: :curse: :shakesfist: and win their bowl game by six touchdowns (like last year against Michigan State) or they will be apathetic and not give a damn and get embarrassed (Sugar Bowl vs Utah)

ESPN seems to think we suck. On Final they were talking TCU and Mich getting the at larges.

Well, if TCU moves up to 16, they are getting in automatically. People keep forgetting that Clemson and Baylor both won in convincing fashion, though. I don't think either team will be eligible because I think Michigan will be jumped by Baylor, finishing 15th and TCU will be jumped by Clemson, finishing 17th. I'm no expert, though.
no way OSU gets in. They dont deserve to either
to play a VERY pissed off 'Bama team in New Orleans in front of all of their fans. They probably wouldn't want to show Okie Lite up w/ compare scores against us or something.
:runaway:
If OSU gets into the championship we are going to the fiesta not the sugar bowl. Bring on Stanford.

Guys, now that we don't have a co-dr pepper, I really want a BCS bowl. Mainly because if we win it will finally end the stupid Jayhawk talking point that KU has won a BCS bowl and KState hasn't (even though we won a BCS bowl when it was called an Alliance bowl).

Snyder knew all about rebuilding. Before Fry's arrival in 1979, Iowa hadn't had a winning season in 18 years, but since then it had averaged nearly eight wins per season and had played in three Rose Bowls. Snyder also knew offense. His passing game had given fits to Neanderthal Big Ten defenses. When Miller called Bo Schembechler of Michigan to ask about Snyder, Schembechler said, "Hire him, get him the f--- out of this conference."
Idiot question: Why don't we have the actual BCS rankings yet? What polls or computers are we waiting on?

They aren't correct. The BCS bowls don't want anything to do with TCU or Boise, but they would be forced to take TCU if they can worm their way into the top 16.

RE: Looks Like UM vs. K-State in Sugar Bowl
Brad Edwards is actually projecting us vs you guys in the Sugar Bowl, others are projecting us vs Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl. Shocked that K-State would be picked over us,they're ranked below us, have more losses than us, they get really low ratings, plus they lost to OU by 40 points, and barely beat a Sun Belt team. Our national games get HUGE ratings. We'll see what happens, but if I had to predict, the Wildcats get in.

Sugar Bowl 2012: Virginia Tech, Michigan Headed To Superdome
The Sugar Bowl matchup for 2012 is official, according to Stewart Mandel of SI.com. The Michigan Wolverines will take on the Virginia Tech Hokies.
Mandel also reports that the Sugar Bowl may have passed on at least two top 10 teams in order to select Virginia tech and Michigan.
The Sugar Bowl is one of the oldest bowls in college football as it was first played on New Year's Day in 1935, trailing only the Rose Bowl which began annual play in 1916. The game has racked up quite a bit of history since its inception, too, having hosted the BCS National Championship game in 2000 and again in 2004.
The 2011 Sugar Bowl featured the Ohio State Buckeyes defeating the Arkansas Razorbacks with a 31-26 final score, but that victory has since been vacated by Ohio State due to a scandal at the school. Terrelle Pryor also ended up losing his MVP award from that game, keeping him from joining a Sugar Bowl MVP class that has included Tim Tebow, JaMarcus Russell, Jason Campbell and Ken Dorsey in the past.

The thing about it is that it's bullshit, though. We're second in the league. We deserve the Cotton Bowl at the very least. We had a very good year, better than expectations, but to think that we should be grateful to get a bowl we absolutely deserve is ridiculous. We're second place in the toughest league in the country and we couldn't get two teams in the BCS? It's 100% bullshit, and I refuse to find any silver lining in, "hey, at least we only got raped once!"

I'm mostly just pissed because I was looking forward to the New Orleans trip. We get to play Arkansas, which is nice. At least we don't have to play some shitty team like Michigan or Virginia Tech.

Doubtful, OU in fiesta and OSU would have gotten an at-large. We'd have the trophy and this same match-up.So.....if OU had won by the margin OSU did....would we have gone to the Insight?
Yes. If OU had won, we would have been in the Insight....we would have had a ring, though.

Texas A&M played Louisiana State University in the 2011 AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic on January 7, 2011. Time ran out with LSU ahead 41 - 24. This was the first Cotton Bowl Classic to be played in prime time, as well as the latest calendar date for the game. In 2012 the Cotton Bowl will be Kansas State University against the University of Arkansas, Two teams that got mumped over by the BCS. ref>http://www.attcottonbowl.com/news/news-releases/2010/12/lsu-accepts-invitation-to-play-texas-am-in-att-cotton-bowl-classic/</ref>

I get Michigan receiving the invite
OU would have been a much better selection than Virginia Tech.

VT makes no sense. I'd love to know more about how this all went down.

I wonder if our attendance figure from yesterday had anything to do with it
fyi, gus is play by play for cotton.
I get Michigan receiving the invite. I'm still a little flummoxed on the VT invite.Really starting to get excited about this Cotton Bowl match-up. :excited:I think people are really overstating their ability to travel and the TV ratings, but I could be wrong there. I think we probably draw just as well as they would (if not better) in person, and I'm pretty sure the TV draw would be marginal at best.Well when ESPN owns the rights to the ACC then all of this should make sense...we got cactus mumped, or better yet...sugar dicked

This baffles me. I'm not sure what just happened here.
Is VT the worst BCS at large ever?
Will we have to add Arkansas to our Texas State Champs shirt?
Anyone else having trouble loading the Cotton Bowl Ticket Exchange site?
I got over this pretty fast. Only thing left to decide is who to vindictively root against.

You absolutely root for an Alabama 1 point win and OSU rout of Stanford.

Is jerry going to give the conf 12million? And ksu about 1.5million?
Texas is losing $1.5M as well. So is OU. So is OSU....the entire conference gets equally mumped. Embrace that.
Meanwhile, be rough ridin' thankful we didn't drop to the Insight, which would clearly have happened if OU had won. Think about that rough ridin' crap for a moment.
we'd have a big 12 title, pete. think about that.
Jesus rough ridin' christ, you retards, I rough ridin' know.
I'm merely having the audacity to suggest that despite being upset about the Sugar, we should be pleased to be in the Cotton.
Get bent out of shape about the Sugar and see what rough ridin' good it does you...

I threw a remote and cursed for about 5 minutes. Then I went on turntable.fm and started typing out my Peggy Po's and Nancy Neg's for the hoops game.

would KSU have been worse? maybe

I guess Michigan is rated worse in the BCS, but they aren't coming off of a 4 TD loss.

you wouldn't be over it if you knew what the website was going to look and sound like when you pulled it up. this one is going to sting for quite a while in darisville.

i'm serious about this btw. i could give a crap about the cats playing in the sugar bowl but my god this place would've been like five johnny kaw raves combined, all at once and cubed.
Delany had to have had a hand in this. Had to. There is no other explanation. This is to set up Michigan for success.

All this means is that outside of the BCS title game the BCS is a beauty contest and about TV ratings etc. They have already said they are gong to change things to more resemble this next season.

Just turn the bowls into a Pro Bowl type of situ.
Yeah but the game still counts in the final rankings and against your record. We need to win so we can say we finished top 10 and beat our bowl opponent. Why not just make them like exhibition games?
:dunno: the bowl system has always been this.
that's why the end of conference play is, for all intensive purposes, the end of the competitive football - until next season starts.

I'm here, Rick. Not on some madeup sabbatical. But right rough ridin' here shoulder to shoulder. in the crap. Escorting the BCS angina and blood clot folk delicately down the stairs to the cotton closet. When you get a breather, think about the business favor youll pridefully ask for in ten years, using our shared experience on this killbox as leverage to pry up my own deeply buried emotions about this Charlie foxtrot. It better be a killer idea named after a great guy we both lost tonight. And dammit, don't you do that to me. Don't you do it if just doesn't matter anymore.

Well I don't know what the f that means but if what daris is saying is true, that might be the worst part of all of this. eff.
The Cotton Bowl is something for Houston Nutt and Ole Miss to brag about not Bobby Petrino and the Razorbacks.
3-point stance: Va. Tech over Kansas State?
1. The Sugar Bowl’s choice of No. 11 Virginia Tech over No. 8 Kansas State is a stunner. Both have 10-2 records; both had flaccid non-league schedules, both had narrow wins over Miami. The Sugar must not have heard about the Hokies’ 38-10 loss to Clemson on Saturday. Sugar Bowl boss Paul Hoolahan said Virginia Tech’s ability to sell tickets and how it has proven itself “over the years” helped the Sugar make the choice. I thought the bowl had to do with results this season. The Big 12 got shafted twice on Sunday.
