I have a bush (evergreen something maybe?) That is like 4ft high. I noticed that every time i walked out the door a cardinal would fly out of the bush.

I did some snooping today and it looks like the cardinal has a nest in the bush.

Will update with more pics when the babies hatch.
One of the  cardinal eggs hatched!

Welp, this is getting super old super fast. Lil tiny baby cardinal chills outside my window all day yelling at his mom get him some dam food.

I'm all like "Chill out bro, trying to watch the royals in here" but he doesn't listen....also the other egg never hatched  :frown:

Here is a pic of the lil guy i snapped today.

So about 2 weeks ago I noticed the nest was empty, no unhatched egg or baby bird, just an empty nest.  :frown:

Then today I started reading up on what chipmunks eat(Cross post from gardening thread) and came across this  :surprised: :surprised: :runaway:

Quote
Chipmunks aren’t particularly choosey about what they eat. Along with seeds and fungi they scarf grain, fruit, nuts, insects, worms, bird eggs and even nestling birds and baby mice. They probably don’t hunt for eggs and hatchlings, just eat them when they find them.

most herbivores will sometimes take animal protein when it's easily available.  herbivores have a hard time getting enough protein in their diet at many times of the year; it doesn't make sense to turn down free protein when they run into it.  rodents are pretty good at this, and all of the members of the squirrel family are relatively carnivorous/insectivorous compared to many other rodents.  so yeah, they're gonna munch that chick if they find it unattended.

but so will tons of other things.  pretty much every mammalian mesopredator in the area.  a few snakes.  lots of birds (birds are huge assholes).  passerine nests don't have a terribly high success rate.

I love how sys drops things like "passerine nests don't have a terribly high success rate." on a regular basis.

(I googled passerine and found out that its basically all birds with 3 toes and 1 thumb/back toe)
