The fox family is enjoying the neighbors new deck next door.  Momma fox watched from the bushes while builders finished the deck then moved back into her den underneath to have her babies.  She just trotted across the cul de sac for her evening hunt.

There were scads of foxes in my neighborhood two years ago. Last spring there was a huge rain that seemed to flush them out of the storm sewers that they utilize for their dens. I've seen just a few this spring. Numbers down significantly from 2 years ago which is fine with me. They are very cute but seemed to getting increasingly fearless around humans and domestic dogs.

27 News got in touch with Matt Peek with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) this week to find out how many people have sighted the big cats in the state recently. The KDWP received 50 confirmed sightings of mountain lions from 2007 to 2023. But that number has more than doubled in the past two years to 110 reported mountain lion sightings since 2007.

Been hearing about mountain lions in NEK for 25 years. Sounds like they may be here for real now.

I was going to bed at about 11pm last night and realized I had forgot to shut the garage door. Went down to shut it and there were 3 raccoons eating out of the cat food bag. When discovered they looked at me for a couple seconds and then just slowly walked out. No scurrying or anything. Funny to see wild animals act annoyed.
