i’ve got two in my backyard
one of them caught a rabbit and made a meal out of it in my front yard, it made quite a mess.  part of the carcass is still there.  i’m assuming the yard guy’s mower will turn it all into organic fertilizer eventually

did the owl just leave part of the rabbit right there, or is it a pellet? like a regurgitated carcass of non-digestible parts of the rabbit? if so you could maybe donate it to a school for dissection

I was in Columbia MO for work yesterday and right near downtown/I-70 my coworkers and I watched a single solitary beaver walk across the street in front of us.

I noticed it and was like....Is that a raccoon? A cat? An otter? Then we all started watching it and realized it was gosh darned beaver. There were no creeks/rivers etc anywhere close that we could tell, seemed like a beaver just popped out of an alley, crossed the street into some brush and kept going.

Last night I was at Pak-level 3.5 when I was taking some empty cans out to the recycling bin in the garage. As I walked past the fishing rod holder on the wall, an unseen black snake bit me on the shoulder. A sensation of overwhelming rage and energy fill me and I bashed the snake to death with a shovel. It was an incredibly surreal experience.

Looking back, I would have expected to feel like 100% fear in that situation but I think being moderately packed caused me to feel an even mixture of rage and energy for killing. I dragged its corpse out onto my driveway and explained the whole situation to my twenty something neighbors who were getting pak’d… like sometimes nothing new happens in life and then totally crazy stuff happens out of the blue.

Normally when snakes show up in the yard, Mrs SSOC pleads with me to kill them and I’m like “no, they are valuable members of the ecosystem and kill mice, are just doing their best in an imperfect world ,etc etc” and I relocate them a safe distance from the house but getting bit really pissed me off.

I just assumed all snakes in Kansas would be too scared to attack something as big as a human let alone an aerial attack

from the snake's perspective, a likely hostile, completely alien being 1000x its size appeared out of nowhere and the snake figured its best chance of surviving the encounter was to bite the massive freak and hope it'd look for something easier to kill.
