Marking bandyman down as someone who believes that Putin won't stop at Ukraine and that NATO is in the same defensive posture as the UK circa 1939.

Using that logic, we can unequivocally say that NATO and it's collective $2 trillion a year in defense spending is the biggest con job in world history, bar none.

Meanwhile more threats of sanctions.  Hardcore sanctions on Russian proxy Iran.

Trump preaching US energy dominance is the biggest kick in the gnads anyone could give Vlad Putin.

The viewers of this blog are reminded that Joe Biden signed an EO which expressly hampered our ability to produce and export LNG . . . he didn't know he was signing it, but he did indeed sign it.

I thought they wanted all of Ukraine.

I wonder what's going to happen to all the Ukrainians in the Euro resort towns throwing around all that US provided cash.

Really makes you think

The goal was to take all of Ukraine.

Goodness . . . it's just kind of sad at this point.

It's just a shame that not 1 but 2 #blueanon POTUS's allowed this situation to occur.

One wouldn't even lift a damn pinky finger to help Ukraine with armaments.  SMDH

they got smoked if that was the goal.  yikes.  initially I read it was to take the russian sympathetic/speaking/ethnic regions on its border to act as a buffer.  If you have some links that support russia trying for the whole country I gladly review those.

Sure reads like a guy who wanted the whole of Ukraine.

https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainealert/putin-admits-ukraine-invasion-is-an-imperial-war-to-return-russian-land/

Smarter people in this blog will note that (for example) the United States was ultimately defeated in places like Vietnam . . . whilst North Vietnam received nothing even resembling the level of firepower that NATO/US bestowed on Ukraine.  Particularly when you start looking at the technological components and spaced based intelligence NATO/US is providing Ukraine. Yet, Ukraine has still lost territory.

The US has also not faced a first world on first world adversary on the field of battle since WWII.

Throughout the past few months, Vladimir Putin has offered up all manner of outlandish excuses for his invasion of Ukraine. At various different times he has blamed the war on everything from NATO expansion to imaginary Nazis, while also making completely unsubstantiated claims about Western plots to invade Russia and Ukrainian schemes to acquire nuclear weapons.

Appropriate response to what?

It’s not like Ukraine has a choice of fighting or not fighting a war here. It’s all just a matter of how to get Russia to withdraw. Trump is strongly signaling that his plan to accomplish this is by allowing Russia to take basically what it wants.

Putin has lost a massive amount in this war. His concession is that he is obviously weak and that apart from an aging nuclear arsenal, Russia is not a superpower.

Putin also lost Finland and Sweden to NATO, which is huge.

From a capability standpoint, the European NATO counties are way tougher than Russia. Russia would get wrecked by them if they mumped with a NATO country.

I guess that’s what I’m asking.  What’s the alternative to that?  What does a realistic “win” look like here?

I mean literally everyone is going to have their own definition of winning, but I don’t know what losing would be other than letting Russia take what they want.

For me, winning would be keeping Russia stymied for long enough they either give up, Putin dies, or he gets replaced by someone sick of the embarrassment.

It's interesting that Vance's public message has been considerably different than Trump and Hegseth in regards to Russia.  He even went as far as to say sending US troops to Ukraine is on the table, which is about as anti MAGA as it gets.

It seems like Ukraine and the US should have been able to define this!

Anyway, I’m pro peace, man.

I just read Vance’s statements this morning as well, and thought the exact same thing.
