My sophomore is struggling with remote learning. She needs the structure classroom provides.
I thought your schools were open and having no issues???

I have one kid that's doing ok and one struggling but it sucks all around. It's tricky because they're splitting the school year into semesters so one has a pretty rough schedule and the other's is pretty pud.

Hybrid model was deployed after they'd announced full opening. Half the kids in class Monday and Tuesday. Half in class Thursday and Friday. Wednesday is remote for all. School cleaning day.

was it because of cases? and yeah that's what we'll go to eventually (my guess is January assuming all goes well with elementary). The "cleaning day" is so dumb but it seems to be the norm with everyone

Pfizer is going to be applying for an EUA for their vaccine in about a month so that’s pretty cool.

Yes. Cases were rising in August after they'd announced full opening. Governor essentially threatened any school district that went ahead with full opening. Went full virtual to start. Then to the hybrid after a month.

Our superintendent was pissed. He ranted a bit here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0rj7Uu4_Ps

If Belgium had the same population as the US, their case count today would be 298k.  Of course they’ll roll over much quicker as they’ll peak in a more unison fashion than we do.

Honor level student. Tests high. Great kid. Needs the structure though. Looking at moving her to another district.

In 2009 with the Swine Flu, which killed several thousand school aged children.   The only time schools were shut down was when they ran out of teachers and substitutes because of the flu.   Otherwise they just kept right on going.

pfft

Response equaling your intellectual depth.

80% of the Global Swine Flu pandemic (2009) deaths were people under the age of 65 (CDC).

40% of U.S. hospitalization's for Swine Flu (2009) were children or young adults.   That equates to 110K hospitalization's of children/young adults for Swine Flu during the pandemic.   The only schools shut down were one's that ran out of teachers, and that was just for periods of days.

That rant got him an invitation to Frankfort to speak at the Senate/House education committee. The KY GOP was having a fit as well.

here they are compared to our worst states:

interestingly enough Wisconsin judges won't let the governor reduce capacity in bars or restaurants:

Quote
he state health department's emergency order capped indoor public gatherings to no more than 25% of the total occupancy limits for the room or building, with exceptions for schools, child care, health care and long-term care facilities.

The order from Sawyer County Circuit Judge John Yackel blocks the new rules, which went into effect Thursday.

And in Belgium they MIGHT make bars close earlier but they haven't quite sorted that out yet.

https://twitter.com/Reuters/status/1317150962419666947

Quote
The measures are expected to include reducing to just one the number of people Belgians can see at close proximity outside their homes and enforcing work from home for most employees.

Belgium could also follow neighbours France in imposing a nighttime curfew and reduce opening hours for bars and restaurants or even close them as the Netherlands has done.

France adds 53K new cases in 2 days.

The EU/UK has added approximately 900K to 1M new cases in the month of Oct to date.   The whole of Europe has added approximately 1.5m to 1.6m new cases in the first half of October.

Thankfully Swine Flu was/is a known virus, Phil.   65-75 million U.S. citizens infected and 300k to 400k hospitalized.   Took 4 months for the CDC to ship out enough test kits to test 1 million people.   On the day the Oval Office finally recognized the National  Health Emergency Barrack was out . . . golfing.

But straight up   not being able to point at how well Europe is doing, and still talking about how they're going "all in" to stop the virus.  By closing down bars at 11 and strongly encouraging people not to use mass transit (insert picture of jammed mass transit here).

France adds another 25K Covid-19 cases yesterday.

Germany hits new daily record with over 7K Covid-19 cases yesterday

UK adds another 15K Covid-19 cases yesterday.  12th consecutive day of 10K plus new cases.    Boris Johnson uses strong strong words of possible Government intervention . . .all in on the very very strong words.

Spain smashes daily case record by adding 15K new cases yesterday

Italy smashes daily new case record with over 10K new cases yesterday

Belgium wrecks former new case record adding over 10K new cases yesterday

The EU is a roiling cauldron of RONA (again)

We dealt with swine flu without lockdowns, economic collapse, unemployment so high people just taking themselves out of the job market, deaths

And dax wants to point out how it was mishandled vs covid-19. Jfc dude.

Yeah bringing up Swine Flu is very WTF from Republicans. Most people couldn’t even say when it was a thing because of how small an impact it ended up having on most people’s lives.

It's only worth noting the total infections of swine flu and how far we are from that at this point.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Like in a movie caper kind of way. Not in a real life people get hurt kind of way.
