So everyone with a second home left NYC. No surprise there.

When is next death poll

i haven't thought of anything interesting to poll that isn't just a restatement of the still extant poll on deaths by may 31.  no posters making outrageous claims, no widely cited models obviously and laughably off target.

You don't think some prisoners should be released early due to coronavirus?

What's crazy about Georgia is their numbers are pretty good! Why?!?

Isn't this what we expected? Disregard they were earlier than the optimal models but if there is separation isn't this what was the plan?

Look at the x-axis labels of the graph. My "why?" is referring to why mix them up when it really isn't that bad?

Not that a report of cases on a day by day basis would be that helpful either...

I have zero interest in looking at that closely. If they were merely trying to adjust for weekend reporting dips, though, that seems okay!

They rearranged the dates so it looked like the case numbers were declining

Yeah they’re out of order, and even if they weren’t out of order, it would still show a steady decline.  Really weird that they got cute with the x-axis there.

I agree with a lot in that thread.

Me too. Getting frustrated with the never open crowd who bitch that any opening is too early and only death and despair await us.

We haven't seen any news outlet speak about any state with that level of nuance. And watching the clip, the guy flat out said the overall numbers are pretty flat and they might be handling it right. It's certainly one of the least egregious data discussions we've seen.

I think there's a similar problem in defining what "reopening" means state by state. I had a call with someone in Texas and the way he described their reopening sounded almost exactly like California except you could get a haircut.

Reporting growth in raw case counts and contextualizing it with testing growth doesn't require much nuance, imo.

On TV?  Nobody that I've seen, really.

In terms of day-to-day broad, digestible data analysis, I think Nate Silver aligns pretty closely with how I've seen things.

Agree.  It harms the actual greater dialogue that society should be having.

If it bleeds, it leads I guess.
