attended church seem like a glaring risk that many americans are going resume exposing themselves to, even as they continue to avoid much lower risk activities.  getting churches to move services outside should be very high on the list of mitigation measures.

china closed all theaters again. so, it's probably out of control there. sounds like they may just be planning to give up and let it burn through the population and not talk about it. the russian plan.

if covid19 was out of control in china, we'd know.  all of the conspiracy theories re. china is mostly a reluctance to admit that east asian countries are handling this so much better than are european countries and the united states.

I was trying to find some factual reporting on this topic. Didn't find much other than China likely is under reporting deaths and cases (shifting them to the flu or some other cause), but on a smaller percentage scale not some massive cover up.

They must have been doing some heavy isolation early on though to prevent spread to other mega cities.

I could definitely see china having somewhere between 20,000 - 40,000 deaths, but not nearly as many as some of the more extreme numbers I've heard (20 million).

with regards to the death totals, i think you should really look up my original post again. i said that china is definitely lying and underreporting their death totals. That being said, I had heard people (not on goEMAW) suggest that China could have as many as 20 million deaths from CoVID-19, and I said that I thought that was impossible. I don't think a single gov't on the planet could successfully hide 20 million dead bodies. But apparently you do. So, I'd like for you to tell me how many dead bodies YOU (Dax) think the Chinese gov't could successfully hide.

But let's look at the facts (no matter how CCP Bots try to rewrite them)  The CCP disappeared doctors and scientists, will not release pertinent information relative to patient zero, immediately moved to "re-certify" labs literally hours after they came out with findings that had extremely negative overtones relative to China and the CCP and on and on on . . . looks like a duck, walks like a duck . . .  None of this has anything to do with what I said, because all I talked about was underreporting death totals. We both agree that the Chinese gov't will lie to make themselves look better. I don't deny that. I'm still going to ask you, how many dead bodies do you think the Chinese gov't could successfully hide?

Phil, over 250k American's died during 2 out of the last 3 pandemics and it barely made the headlines.   From virus's vastly less contagious and virulent than SARS-Covid-19.    Several thousand American's had died, including over 1,000 children from the Swine Flu before the West Wing itself affirmed a National Health Emergency (and not some sub directorate of an Executive Branch entity).

I mean, if you’re a healthy person, the chances of dying from covid are incredibly low.  I do feel terrible for low wage people that are working through this while there are millions of people getting paid more to stay home than they did working.  It is a joke and shows you how little congress cares about how the stimulus money is distributed.  Those ppl are getting absolutely f******.

Some states (Georgia, Oklahoma, ) are into their 4th week of stay at home orders being loosened, many into their third and new cases and positive test % keep dropping, this is great news obviously it's just a little odd given what we heard from everybody saying it was too early.  I know each state didn't loosen their orders the same and many cities were after their states so maybe that's part of it?

we've discussed this a few times and it isn't that odd.

Pretty clear that it's a combination of:

1) very few bars/clubs/large gatherings allowed even in reopened states. I guess churches are the exception, would be interesting to see numbers on this moving forward.
2) masks
3) little air travel
4) the major outbreaks in those states had been in meat packing for the most part which remained open the entire time and therefore likely won't see new spikes
5) people are still modifying behavior - eating out less, working from home more, socially distancing, etc.

Like I said, keep an eye on churches

yeah, the official state open/closed status doesn't mean much, you'd need to look into what interactions are actually prevented or altered.

but there's not going to be some big obvious spike in cases.  initial changes in transmission rate will be something like going from .8 to .9 or .9 to 1.1 or something like that.  it'll be really hard to see them in the noisy data available to us for a long time.
