idk if hydroxychloroquine will save us all, but it would be absolutely great if it could for a couple of reasons: it's stupid cheap to make and it has 70 years worth of testing re. side effects. 

if a new drug needs to be invented to treat this, it's going to be way more expensive and way slower/more mysterious.  that's not the worst thing in the world, but it's less convenient than the hydroxychloroquine scenario.

Lots of companies are hoping that they have the magic bullet to help solve this problem, and if hydroxychloroquine, ultimately, is the solution, that hurts their pocketbook.  If that's the magic bullet, a lot fewer people stand to make a lot less money.

All i'm saying is that there are plenty of interested parties hoping that that this 0.10 cent pill isn't the silver bullet.  I'd hope that there are greater checks on those incentives, and I'm sure there are, but it's worth keeping the economic aspect in mind as tons of competing research comes out.

Like I said, I'm not an expert on the medical aspect of this at all, but I do understand that it would be very convenient for the average JOE if hydroxychloroquine is helpful.  I was hopeful for that before Trump ever started talking about it.  If it doesn't work, that would suck for all of us except for the companies who stand to profit from alternative solutions (whether they're prophylactic or mitigative).

The politcization of hydroxychloroquine certainly doesn't help either.
