BUT LIBYA

In the context of a president can do whatever he/she wants, it’s perfectly applicable.  Lib only gets mad if a Pub does it, while most get mad if any do it.

The US has repeatedly demanded something in return for aid over the decades.  For example Joe Biden demanded that the Ukraine do something before he would release the aid.  Just in this case, it was to protect his families corruption.

Otherwise the US has historically quid pro quo’d almost all forms of aid.

Now apparently Libs want no questions asked, outcomes sought or behaviors changed foreign aid. Sad

Delete your post, read the OMB decision, and try again. What you are saying is ok is not even close to what actually happened here.

after 8 years of "DOES OBAMA THINK HE IS A KING" it is interesting to hear pubs extoll the virtues of expansive executive power

There’s only a modicum of executive power in wanting to investigate corruption.

Everything Trump has done to date almost exclusively falls into the full purview and jurisdiction of the executive branch.  You guys just don’t like it because it’s Trump.

When Trump gins up something with a couple of NATO allies to go topple a regime, get back to me.

the guy has openly suggested personally and through his campaign that he should serve beyond term limits

not a big deal but the conservative outrage had Obama even joked about it would have been insane

"Everyone is familiar with William Blackstone’s famous aphorism, “That the king can do no wrong, is a necessary and fundamental principle of the English constitution.” But what does that have to do with us on this side of the Atlantic — we who revolted against a “God-King” with the words “all men are created equal,” broke free, and created a constitutional republic?

As it turns out, precious little. In 1996, Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens wrote that sovereign immunity is a judge-made doctrine that has been “thoroughly discredited” because it is founded on the notion “that a divinely ordained monarch ‘can do no wrong.’ ” Not surprisingly, “Sovereign immunity is a right that cannot be found in the text or the framers’ intent,” wrote recognized legal scholar Erwin Chemerinsky."

First of all, LOL, because I’m not all supporting unlimited presidential powers and I don’t need any lectures on sovereign immunity.

Next, your guy openly lamented term limits, and LOL at the notion he was joking.

So again, when Trump makes a couple of phone calls to 10 Downing and a few days later “NATO” is toppling a regime in North Africa, we’ll talk.

Everyone knows the legislative branch controls all foreign affairs and the executive branch doesn’t have broad remedies on how allocated foreign aid is spent.

The GAO certainly offers a valid opinion in which to consider, but that doesn’t change the fact that the executive branch has broad remedies as to the spending of allocated foreign aid.

"Faithful execution of the law does not permit the President to substitute his own policy priorities for those that Congress has enacted into law," the opinion said. "[The Office of Management and Budget] OMB withheld funds for a policy reason ... not a programmatic delay. Therefore, we conclude that the OMB violated the ICA [Impoundment Control Act]."

What is spent is not impounded.

"The President has narrow, limited authority to withhold appropriations under the Impoundment Control Act of 1974, OMB told GAO that it withheld the funds to ensure that they were not spent 'in a manner that could conflict with the President’s foreign policy.' The law does not permit OMB to withhold funds for policy reasons."

Lick I’ve read a ton congressional testimony, and the articles from the wonks who say the president was in the wrong. It all reads like typical wonk we’ve got money we’ve got to spend it BS.  Because not spending it would be worse than spending it. On top of only providing at best lip service to the corruption in Ukraine.  These are career go along to get along types.

While doing what Trump did may have been bullshit, to be wholly dismissive of the corruption component, particularly in a place like the Ukraine is also bullshit.   There’s even people glomming all over the anti-corruption pledge of the new Ukrainian administration.  Lol, it will take  decades to root that out.   I read these articles and it’s clear these policy lifers have rubber stamped billions into corrupt shitholes because nothing builds the old resume like “in charge of (insert aid program here) program for Office of blah blah blah”.

Nothing Dax will not defend Trump on. Nothing.
