Is this generations goth and emo just trans and non-binary? There will always be a certain % of freaks who just flock to an edgy alternative lifestyle because they are psychologically wounded or have horrible parents or whatever, and you can't just tell me the goth and emo kids simply vanished and weren't replaced by some other weird alternative.
There used to be groups of kids who would dress edgy and wear nail polish and makeup and act like they were between genders. Would they have just been trans if that was the cool thing back then?

Most kids in my age group just went through a goth/emo phase and moved on like normal kids do.
As for where they are now, if still goth/emo, I'd check your local Hot Topic or Spencer's. Or maybe go see a metal show.
I live in the suburbs and HS kids are everywhere you go up here (Cypress). I see jocks, skaters, nerds, flaming homosexuals and gender fluid looking kids, but it occurred to me at dinner the other night that I NEVER see goth/emo kids anymore. The wife even thought it was interesting. We both agreed it had been years (maybe a decade) since we had seen such painted up pathetic looking freaks. I posited that maybe many of the kids that used to fall into those groups are now just going all the way and coming out as trans or gender queer or non-binary...it's every bit as edgy and abrasive and a middle finger to the older generations, if not more. Wife thought that was a stretch, but still was baffled as to what type of kid must have replaced the goths and emos. And I told her that recent studies claim that like 20-30% of kids now identify as on the LGBTQ+ spectrum (some studies say even more).
Anyways, I miss goth and emo kids compared to this crop of counter culture kids. These kids pose much more of a risk to my young daughter imo.
