Why would someone who champions the traditional patriarchal family go to the grocery store?

As they and others pointed out, Carlson did not seem to consider U.S. wages and American purchasing power.

According to the latest figures available from Russia's Federal State Statistics Service, the average monthly wage in Russia was about $787 in November.

By comparison, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in the last quarter of 2023, the median weekly earnings of Americans was $1,142.

Carlson also showed that the total cost of his shop came to 9481.37 rubles. That comes to about 58 percent of the weekly average Russian wage, based on the monthly wage figures provided by Russia's Federal State Statistics Service.

Data from 2022 by the USDA shows that American consumers spent on average only 11.3 percent of their disposable income on groceries.

Russia also has lower purchasing power compared to the U.S. as data from The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) shows.

Oops
I think he’s smart enough to have very clearly understood his claims were hilariously upside down. But I also think he’s smart enough to have a very clear understanding that his audience is entirely rough ridin' morons and wouldn’t understand that.

Obviously.  He could have gone to a gas station and gushed about how nice the pumps are in russia and his audience would Saltburn bathwater it.

I'm sure Tucker did a dry run with his camera crew doing the shopping to make sure he looked like he knew what he was doing.

Whatever you want to call it, Tucker Carlson lives absolutely rent free in the #blueanon/#blueanongE mind.

The most fascinating thing is knowing that icons of the Pro-Lib movement, the one that existed before the collective turned into a multi-multi millions strong army of fascistic hyper paranoids . . . were all about reapproachment-detente-normalization-SALT etc etc with the Soviet Union/Russia.  Even when the then Soviet Union/Russia was giving supplies to countries to kills thousands of American soldiers . . . albeit American soldiers as part of a hegemonic United States seeking to bend the will of the indigenous population one B-52 carpet bombing at a time.

I think he's just never been to a grocery store before

which is kind of ironic given the source of his wealth
