“When a country (USA) is losing many billions of dollars on trade with virtually every country it does business with, trade wars are good, and easy to win,” Donald Trump.

It's hard to win a trade war when you're being investigated by the Democrats.

The original attempt to do something about in the TPP was so deeply flawed it's just  .  It might as well have been written by the Fortune 100.

1.  Would have absolutely killed innovation by any entity that didn't have 6 floors worth of lawyers
2.  Pretty much all but destroyed any shred of personal privacy that remains in this world
3.  It would have restricted our Congress from enhancing or amending relevant IP laws as it pertains to the U.S. and U.S. entities operating in International markets
4.  Digital Locks?  Forget it, gone
5.  Allowed any entity to unilaterally declare (even after the fact) that digital information was protected.   See ya in prison whistle blower (right up Barry's alley)
6.  Copyright penalties for usage of material with no commercial intent or use would have been made much harsher
7.  Completely re-written already well thought out pertinent laws in many signatory countries
8.  Your smart phone; made readily accessible to law enforcement

No wonder they did it all in secret . . . again BAU for the Obama administration.

I just think if the great bendobama was able to get China to agree to IP protection then President deals should be able to as well.

It is a pretty important issue.

Or essentially accelerated China's highly censored Internet and essentially allowed them to create mandatory closed source items like home routers that government could easily access with no hope of re-writing any software to change their accessibility.

Restrictions on open source IT equipment for example.  If the state (China) has those restrictions in their hip pocket then your home router is essentially designed by the state.  See any problems there?

I get the problem you are trying to explain as far as China creating hardeare with backdoors . I don't follow who is restricting whom to produce open source router firmware.  Maybe a link would help explain better.

TPP prohibited member countries from instituting laws that mandated code review or mandated the release of source code.

Agreed that would be a bad provision.
