Report: Mizzou To Big Ten "A Done Deal"

ESPN is reporting that long-swirling rumors about Missouri joining the Big Ten Conference are coming true, although these reports are still unconfirmed.

ESPN senior college sports writer oscar Feldman says he spoke with the athletic director at a PAC-10 university saying that Missouri to the Big Ten was "a done deal."

There isn't any other official confirmation of this report, on ESPN's website or elsewhere.

Missouri has been named before among schools such as Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and Rutgers as candidates on the short list to join the Big Ten.

It seems to me MU going to the Big 10 could really shazbot! up their Texas football recruiting. No assured home games for parents/family to watch. What would be the incentive for the current Big-12 Texas schools to schedule home and homes with MU? To offer anything to recruits, they could be stuck with TCU, SMU, Houston, Rice, UTEP types, who would want a home and home with shi††y payoffs.

Mizzou would be smart to bail out of the Big 12 ASAP and keep major conference status, because from a coaching standpoint the Big 12 is becoming more mid-majory all the time. Gill, Boyle, Hoiberg, etc.....

the powertards pretty much nailed this discussion in their powerespect expansion thread.

no matter what happens, if ut doesn't go to the pac 10, kstate will end up in some sort of conference with ut, and it'll be ok (at least). if ut goes to the pac-10, kstate is doomed.

IMO the only school the Big 10 really wants is Notre Dame. It balances the conference and gives them yet another national collegiate marketing super power. If they get ND I believe they won't want anybody else. Every other possibility just waters it down, creates more scheduling and travel issues and brings relatively nothing to the table in comparison to what they'll have. Notre Dame along with Penn State locks down the NYC metro on Saturday Afternoons and evenings, they'll dominate every media market from Boston to the Twin Cities, and Illinois already gives them a huge chunk of St. Louis, and ND only adds to that. What do they need Moo for, what do they need Cornhole for . . . they don't.

So the key is ND, if the Big 10 gets them, that's it IMO.

There's nothing like a 57-42 Sunday basketball games on CBS b/w Illinois and Indiana or an 11am football game on ESPN between Michigan State and Wisconsin with 9 FG's.

before the big 10 network, that was true. now they want 16 teams. got lots of hours to fill and live content (any live content) gets ratings that blow away anything else they can broadcast. they need content.

why don't they just strike an advantageous deal with another conference to broadcast the other conference's games. they could take a substantial cut and still leave the other conference feeling grateful.

it seems like that'd be a lot simpler than expansion. and just as lucrative for the current 11 schools, if not more so.

They won't get Notre Dame. Notre Dame has stated that their number 1 priority is remaining independent in football above all else. Done deal.
