Our new TV contract would be a pile of crap without Texas or aTm but whatevs.  Beats the hell out of the alternative.

Yeah, there's no way OU turns down the PAC for that.

Unless there is a deal for OU to have their own network and for them to have the larger share of the revenue pie?

What does it mean that BYU would join in football only? Where the eff would their other sports play?

They already play in the WCC in everything but football.

Like ND in the Big East?

If they play in the Big 12 for football, their other sports can't stay in the WCC.

Why not?

Essentially, in the grand scheme of things, all you're doing is kicking Texas out in football and replacing them with BYU.  Otherwise, everything in the non-revenue sports stays the same, you just add TCU, Louisville, and Cincy for everything.

It makes a lot of logistical sense.  I think it would be more attractive for the Big 12 from a travel perspective.

Agreed, though, this is an absolutely asinine idea that would make  MWC money, therefore, you can just file this away in the, "Good try," file.

Then going to the SEC makes more sense...

Unless they're really that scared that they can't compete there.  Which may be the reality.

you realize that nothing in the past means anything, right?

Why would BYU agree to this? What is the drawback for them if they agreed to all sports in the Big 12? Why would they still want bball in the MWC?

It's the WCC, and probably because of travel. Traveling over 1000 miles isn't a big deal for football teams, but it's a big deal for every other sport that usually travels during the week.

they can't be in a big conference for loser sports because they can't play or travel on sundays or something.  they can boss around the WCC on scheduling but with a real TV contract and bigger timey schools that crap won't fly.

I only want to be in one of the big 4. Anything else is just delaying the inevitable. Inviting non-BCS members into a BCS conference will only dilute the pool even more. Keep them out. Give me the Pac or SEC.

Yeah, it's nice to want things.  My advice would be to stick to things that there is at least a 1% chance of you eventually obtaining though.

Dude, I can't tell if you're being serious or not...BYU bailed from the MWC in all sports.  They moved all non-revenue to the WCC (which is where Gonzaga and St. Mary's play).  The WCC is a conference of private, religious schools.  BYU seems very happy sending their non-revs in that environment and leaving them after one year is unattractive to them.  However, they want to be in the BCS, and this would allow them to do that.

Also, for the Big 12, having a non-revenue in Salt Lake is pretty undesirable.

for eff's sake, i mixed up the wcc and mwc. settle down.

If BYU is so set on the BCS, why wouldn't the Pac 16 be more of an option than the leftovers of the Big 12? This what I don't understand.

I posted this a while back, but smart people tend to thrive in chaos.  We may stand a better chance of moving into a nice conference while everything is up in the air as opposed to letting things settle a bit.

what i'm hearing is that the original Big 8 members have been doing a lot behind the scenes with OU taking the lead. A&M is out and being replace with full time members Louisville, Cincinnati, and TCU. Texas will go independent in football only. BYU is joining us in football only.

We'll all be right back here later when someone gets googly eyes at Mizzou.

Interesting. At first glance, I laughed. But then, as Mich pointed out, the BYU thing makes sense for everyone in terms of the non-revenue travel/Sunday scheduling issues. You lose value with Texas football leaving, BUT you gotta think they'll still be playing ~4 Big 12 teams each year (like ND with the Big 10), which probably will retain some contract value (?--not sure how non-con affects the contract). You also replace some of the value with BYU, TCU, and the eastern markets with Louisville and Cincy.

Speculation: which of the following is most likely to be a smoke screen?  A)  This latest Big 12 plan (by OU in response to PAC 12 hesitancy to take OU/OSU w/o Texas to try to force PAC 12's hand); B) PAC 12 would consider KSU/KU (by PAC 12 to try to force Texas' hand); C) Both.

Edit:  And not that it matters in terms of decision making, but for us basketball fans the Big 12 would have gotten substantially better in bball in the space of 3 years.

The latest big12 plan is too Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) to be an effective smokescreen.  It is more like a wet fart.
