I know that pain. Also, it's not just a dog...it's a member of the family. Sometimes, it's the closest and best member of the family as well.

Yea, the beagle. We adopted him from the shelter in Topeka just after thanksgiving in 2001. He was about three months old. He slept in my room until I moved off to college my freshman year.

He was old and in poor health. I thought I was prepared for this moment, but it's still tough. Thinking about it this morning has dug up a lot of memories. A ton of good ones, and some bad ones where he was there to help ease the pain.

He was a great dog. I couldn't have asked for a better one. I'm going to drink a lot of booze tonight and cry some tears.

We've been celebrating her life this week.
