K-state lost a great one today. K-Stater, husband, doctor, rugger, loyal friend, and father to two young children lost his battle with brain cancer about a year and a half after the thirty days they gave him.  We love and will miss you Dow!

Thanks guys. I don't know how this sounds to you guys, but I don't mean this in a self centered way...
This one really hurts. I haven't talked to him in a few years, but he was just a great guy. Leaving a 3yr old and a 10 month old behind is just unimaginable, although I know if happens far too often.
Cancer sucks ass.

Yeah... I broke down out of nowhere a few times today. Everyone says life isn't fair, and this is a great example.

Buried Mrs. CF3's Grandpa today. He was 84, so it was not a premature death, he lived a very full life. It was sad for sure, but the family was content and he was celebrated. He was a very amazing man. His wife left him when he was 27 with 3 young boys, including Mrs. CF3's Dad, and he raised them himself, becoming a union electrical worker for over 40 years. He worked his ass off, and took responsibility for his family, raising his kids to be men.

He was a funny prankster. A story was told about how he carried around this fake diamond ring and a picture of a very ugly woman in a bikini, and he would tell anyone new he met that he was on his way to propose to this super ugly woman. He'd ask them to wish him luck and show them the picture, completely serious, and head on his way. You guys all would've liked him.

RIP Mrs. CF3's Papa.

Thanks TBT and lib7. It was one of those funerals where people are sad and all but there are a bunch of funny stories and everyone was like really happy to have known such a great dude.

can co. He bought his grave stone like 8 years ago. Below his name it said "gotta get, taxes paid". When I asked Mrs CF3's dad why Papa would want that on his gravestone, he said because he always said once his taxes were paid he'd check out for good, but mostly the reason was to confuse people who saw his gravestone. Like, one last old man joke. His commitment to never quit on a joke was to be commended, regardless of if the joke worked.

Great stuff. We really celebrated my mom's life last November. That type of funeral is actually pretty great, even though you might cry a ton.

Hey bubbs, thanks for the kind words. I couldn't make it back to Dow's funeral, but I talked to a few buddies that did, and the only thing that would have made it better was Trim live tweeting it. I think they did a great job of celebrating, and his wife was amazed at the rugby family that showed up, even for a wuss like Dow who always tried to pooch it.

love you Dow  :)

welp. one of my grandpas has been in the hospital for 2 months battling some heart issues, and had been doing better. last week they were transporting him from KC back to MHK and during the transport they dropped his hospital bed and he hit his head. had some internal bleeding and spent a few days in ICU because of it. they got him stabilized and he got out of ICU a few days ago. he took a turn for the worst yesterday morning and passed just before 2AM this morning.  :frown:
