I still can’t believe they didn’t use the new terminal as an opportunity to relocate the airport.  What a disaster.

I appreciate that KCI is a pilot favorite.

I like happy pilots.

Locating an airport to a new spot that is near development would be a nightmare. Airplanes are loud.

Like all the runways and everything or just move the terminal to the south side of the current airport to be closer to the city?

If a totally new location, where would you have put it?

Guys, I understand that it’s extremely challenging and an outright pain in the ass but it’s something they should’ve been planning for years in order to improve the quality of life for kansas citians.

I don't really get the complaint about the airport location.  I spent the better part of 20 years flying multiple times a month out of KCI (sometimes once a week for years) and never once did I think "Man, this is a bad location for an airport."  for several years I made the commute from Lawrence, and for the rest of the time I traveled from North OP.  I probably get back to flying eventually to some degree, and am really looking forward to the new terminal.

It's too far away from everything obviously, but I think kim carnes underestimates how unbelievably hard it is to get absolutely anything at all done in kansas city. Like 50% of the residents do not want anything to ever change or improve no matter what

this is where i’m at.  it’s funny that it’s the people who’ve chosen to live way the eff out of the city who complain about the airport being way the eff out of the city

It's 20 minutes from city center.  That's pretty hard to bitch about tbh.

yeah and maybe 40 from op?  it’s just not much of a big deal to drive there from anywhere in the city (the same thing can be said about driving to/from anywhere in kc

Are you referring to downtown as city center?  The vast majority of the kc metro population is south of downtown.  Anyways it doesn’t matter. The ship has sailed, opportunity blown.

Wonder what the population center of the kc metro is. I'd guess 75th and troost?

i am a huge nerd so i've actually looked into this. it's not 100% exact because i took each of the 79 municipalities officially considered part of the kc metro area, and took their official coordinates and populations from wiki, and found where the weighted center of the metro is.

turns out it's directly inside of Loose Park (39.029, -94.594)

i may need to update for the new census data

if you use the 15 counties instead of 79 municipalities, it's still very close (63rd & Rockhill)

I do think it would have been good timing to do light rail from south KC all the way to the airport with various stops for parking and etc.

Let's put the Hyper Loop station there.

Cool. I considered doing it too but figured a guess would be more fun. I was pulled a little too east by overestimating Lees summit area.  Do a new one with 2020 census data.

I know more than a few people who chose to live north of the river not because it was really their number 1 choice but because the primary bread winner was traveling 250 days a year and it was a concession to their QOL
