Are you comparing Hibachi Hut to the Lou?  I guess that Music Store in Aggieville is pretty weird too, but then again, that's not any more a restaurant than the Lou is.

That's complete BS Dlew. I have ordered and eaten deviled eggs at Lou's at least once or twice.

Being replaced by a place named Fuzzys Tacos. Fuzzys rough ridin' tacos.

It's decent, but I won't spend one red rough ridin' cent in there...  Just like I won't go to BWW, Chipotle, or Pizza Hut in Manhattan.

Good job, townies.  You're turning the 'ville into a big Joco strip mall.

You're really sticking it to the man here, BP.

That's not the point. I can get big box stores, pro sports, and chain restaurants in Dallas.

I come to MHK for the EMAW places, not the over processed bullshit that I can get on every corner.

Yes, this.  No regular stuff everybody else has MHK locals, you must have shittier stuff nobody wants so some jagoff can enjoy his visit.

March in line, loser.  The fact that you know nothing of Manhattan &/or Aggieville speaks volumes. Well, that and the fact that you're a fan of a squeaky voiced eff we can't stand.

Pretty weird to blame this on townies. Pizza Hut was local when they moved in, they made pizza better than everyone else and now they are a global icon. Maybe the people at HH should have ask for lessons. Does your self-imposed ban extend to Varneys, Planet Sub, and PBR?

Fair point in that its not right to blame the townies for HH's inability to maintain proper quality over the years.  Fwiw, I've not spent money with Varney's since I was a student, and have never eaten at Planet Sub or PBR...   So, yes, I suppose it does.

Its not our job at citizens to keep certain businesses going. If a restaraunt has good food and a good business plan, it will thrive and people, regardless of loyalties or love for chain restaraunts, will eat there. GMAFB with the "keep it local" crap. No one would feel sorry for me if I quit my job to go be a professional poker player in Vegas and went broke because I didn't have the bankroll or skill set to hang. I don't feel bad for a local restaraunt that can't afford to take a few hits and hang with the chains because they had shitty food at shitty prices.

What we should be upset about is the fact that they're leasing the building to a chain. If they had such local loyalty they wouldn't have sold out and rented to a chain, they would have leased it to another aspiring local businessman. I'm sure that Johnny Kaw's racist bar owner guy would have a field day with that place.

EDIT: I'm assuming they own that building, if they don't own it then forget about the last bit.

There aren't any local chains that drove them out of business, right?  I thought they simply fell to the bottom of aggieville's local restaurant options.  Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about and every ass that used to be in a Hibachi Hut seat is now at Olive Garden.

I've gathered that they owned the building, or at least have the right to sublease it, and they've chosen who's moving in.  And yeah, that really seems to fly in the face of the "support local" talking point that's being promoted.

It could've been gE: La Cantina.  Because tacos.

Canadian guy that I know says that the very finest hydroponic in MHS could be procured from the right Hut related connections back in the day.  Like neon blue-green...so the story goes.

We served pickled eggs at the Lou, not deviled eggs.  We also served Hot Mama sausages and slim jims making it a better place to eat dinner than Hibachi Hut.

it was the first mhk restaurant my dad ate at in 1971 and he always said that the interior still looked exactly the same 40 years later.  we went there all the time.  it wasn't the best food in aggieville after it was sold, that is true.  it was very weird and that was probably what I loved most about it.  the weird menu, the weird different restaurants in different rooms thing, the old fat lady hostess who would always just stare at you grumpily and say "hibachi or texas star?"  oh and the weird massive picture along the back wall.

maybe more than the food or drinks or the restaurant itself I'll miss all the memories of eating there with my family before and after football games as a kid.  it was a special place to me.

This is a good post and pretty much sums up how I feel about losing the nostalgia, knowing so many generations of K-Staters loved the place.

I worked there in college over the summers back when the prior ownership still involved the Cox brothers and Julie Hanes and back when it still had some cool factor and the waitresses were all extremely hot and full of loose morals and wandering hands.  The kitchen area and walk in freezer was essentially a marijuana and sex fueled orgy room.  Oh man, if those walls could talk!

Unfortunately the new owners were pretty weird and dorky and it gradually lost its charm over the course of the last few years.  They gave it a good go, but in the end they were pretty shitty owners that ran an Aggieiville establishment into the ground.

Will really miss the place.  Will also really miss D Scott Fritchen's gumbo tweets.

It was very meh. On a weekday night would you rather wait 5min for lucha or so longs or get some mediocre gumbo?

That's why they went out of business. And a crappy atmosphere for drinking/watching sports.

Ate their once, it was pretty good.

Like dlew said, it always gave off a weird vibe when i walked by. Never really enticed me to come in. When i walked by last month, i commented how they needed to remodel their business front. Sucks that a longtime business is gone, but i probably wont miss it.

I've eaten at the Fuzzy's taco place on Wornall in KC.  Not impressed at all.

you have a pretty refined taco palate

It's true.  I really do.  Sort of snobby about it.

Pete, how does it rank compared to other taco/burrito chains like Chipotle?

if you like crunchy tacos and little potato things, then you'll like it well enough.  They seemed to have fairly popular salads as well, but never tried those.

Who ever owned HH/TS had to get damn rich in the  90s as  enrollment grew and  fb weekends became a thing while they spent next to nothing on the restaurant.   In the heyday of the DoD it was them and Lucky's in Aggieville if you wanted something other than the usual bar food.

15 years ago it was awesome. I have only eaten there a few times since. It sounds like it sucked recently. Too bad. Nobody would be saying bad crap about the food they served back in dobber's day. :cyclist:

I really enjoyed my meal there at Fattyfest last year.  I ate there about a week and a half ago and it was pretty good, although it had gotten worse from when I first ate there about 7 years ago. Lucha, Aggie Station, Wahoo, and maybe even Keltic Star are all better local food options, and none of those existed a few years ago. The writing was on the wall there for a while. So long, Hibachi Hut.

Pulled up the tax info and the owners of HH also appear to own the building (would seem odd that a trust is listed in the name if taxes were simply part of the lease).

I also looked at HH's website to confirm ownership and this was there:

Quote
The current owners are Bill Becker, Sandra Becker, Kale Becker, and Marc Claas. Bill and Sandra are originally from Goodland, KS, and each spent over 36 years in public education (Bill, school administrator; Sandra, teacher) in Ottawa County, KS. Both earned Masters from KSU. Kale graduated from Minneapolis High School, KS, and KSU—Hotel/Restaurant Management and Golf Course Management. Marc is from Seneca, KS and also attended KSU.

They've owned the place since 2004. There's a lot of reasons in that paragraph of why HH is no longer in business and several of them might not have anything to do with the restaurant losing money.

It was probably the first restaurant I ate at in Manhattan. That being said, nostalgia is kind of stupid.
