What kind should I get?

BORDER COLLIE!  :D

do you have a female border collie, mocat?  my awesome male border collie wants to reproduce.

I have 2 males. They are cousins, and one of them is a short hair. He has zero herding instincts or intelligence, while the other is standard BC genius. Both great to have.

that's too bad, my wife really wants a puppy from our bc (and he's a great dog).  i wish there was a site where people advertized for dog sex.

It's much easier if you have a bitch you want to breed.  In the bird dog world stud fees might only be $600 or so.  But in your case you'd probably have to find some other yahoo like yourself and convince him your male is worth breeding to.

also, does anyone do that fly ball thing? I saw a thing about it on TV and border collies were kicking ass at it. I mainly cheered for the pud teams of riff raff breeds that came in last but looked to have a hell of a time doing it.

we've thought about it, but then we'd have 3 dogs.  we really only want 1 (with some inevitable and necessary overlap between the current dog and the future dog).

one of my coworkers does that (with aussies).  not really my thing, but it does look cool.  border collies pretty much kick ass at everything involves being athletic, following instructions and/or being smart.

oth, i've had my bc running around near a greyhound sometimes, and instead of looking super athletic and badass like he does when he runs around by himself, he looked really slow, clumsy and weak next to the greyhound.

Why don't you just euthanize the dog that can't make puppies?

Growing up and currently we had several BC's, probably close to 10 of them total.  Once you have one, you will never get anything else imo.  Ours aren't just pets for us though.  I have a 1 year old female, red and white, that is going to be a pretty good bitch in a year or two if I can find more time/space to work with her.

If I ever give up having hunting dogs I want border collies.  Love those dogs.  Seems like everyone in rural Montana has at least one.

welp our only female of breeding age is the one with the pups, so she isn't going to be ready until jan/feb 2014.  my female is still to young/small to breed and she had her first cycle in december.

just curious, but how is your male marked/colored?  i'm always amazed at the different combinations

iirc you live in cali?  i'd do some googling on cali bc breeders and see if you could get something worked out that way

pit bulls, the truck nuts of the dog world

If you're talking about the horribly mutated mutt "pitbulls" like this, I agree:

I'd probably get a dog like this:

has nothing to do with what they look like

It absolutely does. Guys who want to look tough aren't going to get a pure bred APBT, because they look like labradors. They're going to get something they can put on a chain and tell themselves how badass they look with their tough dog.

33, would you consider getting a dog with double muscle disease?

When one person, for whatever reason, has a chance to lead an exceptional life, he has no right to keep it to himself.

This border collie talk is great. BC owners are like Macintosh owners in the early 90s or something. Like they know they have the best and won't ever own anything else

That's the only reason why anyone ever got a non-rescue pit bull.

Ha, yeah. Many similarities.
