pit bulls, the truck nuts of the dog world

If you're talking about the horribly mutated mutt "pitbulls" like this, I agree:

I'd probably get a dog like this:

has nothing to do with what they look like

It absolutely does. Guys who want to look tough aren't going to get a pure bred APBT, because they look like labradors. They're going to get something they can put on a chain and tell themselves how badass they look with their tough dog.

That's the only reason why anyone ever got a non-rescue pit bull.

That's fair. I'd never seek one out, but I'd probably rescue one.

just curious, but how is your male marked/colored?  i'm always amazed at the different combinations.

What's the coolest thing your dog can do? Mine gets in the car all by herself.

This border collie talk is great. BC owners are like Macintosh owners in the early 90s or something. Like they know they have the best and won't ever own anything else

Stupid bc owners. It's not like they have been proven to be the smartest breed ever.

Mine can like smell birds I want to eat and then stop just before they fly away.  Then after I shoot one he runs over and picks it up and boxes out the other dogs that want the bird.  Then he brings it to me.

I dought a viszla could get to be much over 50 lbs.  Would have to be fat to do that, IMO.  But the lab could take it over 50lbs for sure.  I've been around quite a few and they make great pets.  I don't prefer them from a hunting standpoint but they are nice dogs for sure.  Would be a shame though (IMO) to own a hunting dog and not take it hunting.

This website says you don't know crap.

I've never seen a vizsla over 50 lbs and have been around a dozen or so.  Most were 40 to 50 pounds with a few under 40.  Some were litter mates, most weren't.  Granted all were in good shape as hunting dogs.  Americans generally let their dogs get pretty fat so I don't doubt the link.  I jsut don't think a healthy vizsla should ever get to be more than 50lbs.  That's two ribs showing.  YMMV.

I think I'm going to go with the experts at puppydogweb.com and not your eyeball judgments.  Everybody get a load of this guy, rough ridin' digital scale eyes accurate to a tenth of a pound!  Hey emo, the carnival just called and it wants you to work at it! lol

I used to have a Vizsla.  He was very lean @ 60 lbs, so we targeted 61-62 lbs.  Vet agreed.  However, he was just a bigger dog than other vizslas I had seen.

Great dog.  Great with kids.  But they need to run regularly.  Don't ever get one if you can't let it.

Haven't heard him make a single noise yet.  Except for a little whimper when I put him in his kennel last night.  Slept all the way through the night and then went straight to the door in the morning  :D, went outside and pooped :D, and then came back inside and pooped again  :frown:.

What kind should I get?

Parameters:
Small to Medium sized
Good with kids
Likes to snuggle
Pretty short hair/not too shaggy
Not too much shedding
Not too hyper/likes to play but also likes to sleep
Doesn't bark much
Easily trained/Smart
Does not drool a lot

Sounds like you're looking for a cat.

Had the dog for 2 weeks.  Gave it back to the original owner.  Got a cat.

lady needs her own thread, imo
