Rescue a mutt from wayside waifs. You can get a cute ass dog for pretty cheap. That's what I did.

No idea what she is. The mother was a pregnant stray. 28 pounds, while pregnant, and now she's like 50 lbs. Probably some kind of rottweiler/beagle rape action.

I have two English Bulldogs and they are amazing.  They fit all of your criteria except they do shed.  They do not drool.  They are the cuddliest dogs I've ever encountered.  They never bark or are aggressive and they love people.  They were super easy to potty train and also to sit and to shake and to lay down.  They mind very well.  They also like to play, but only as much as you want and if not then they are perfectly happy to sleep or chew a bone.  They are also hilarious.  Provide a great deal of entertainment just being themselves.  They wrestle each other.  I would not call them smart, but that's part of why they are adorable.
My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.

100% agree.  My dad is a vet at the Humane Society in KC, he says they have every kind of dog imaginable available for adoption. Not sure where you're located but go to a shelter, you can walk/play with/look at all the available dogs. Take your family members and make sure it gets along with all of them.

Just picked up this stud from the Humane Society a couple months ago.  :D

Ours haven't had any health issues thus far and all dogs die before you generally speaking.  If you're worried about a dog dying then you shouldn't get one at all.  It's part of the setup.  You do your best to give them a great life, enjoy their company and then they die.  Then you repeat if you're not a pussy.

Per your specifications:
1. Standard schnauzer
2. Cocker spaniel
3. Novia Scotia Duck Tolling Retreiver
4. Daschund

This site, http://dogtime.com/matchup, has a quiz that "tells" you your perfect match.

I judge people who buy dogs from breeders when there are hundreds at the pound.

When I choose a pooch, I usually pick the dog sitting quietly in the back watching the other barking dogs crowd around the front of the cage.

This is the plan, but I'd like to know what the mix is.  Do most shelters know what breeds go into the mix?

Yeah, I hate cats but they are much lower maintenance.

They'll tell you they do, but there is no way to be sure with rescues. You'll get a pretty good idea what they are based on physical characteristics and mannerisms. You can pay to have a vet test it, but the results will probably come back "mixed breed"

No, most of the time it's just a best guess. It gets pretty hard to determine the mix when its mutts on mutts on mutts on mutts.

My advice would be to adopt a dog that is a bit older (1-3 years) so you know for sure what size it will be.  You could do DNA testing to determine the exact breed I guess if you really wanted.

I have strongly considered an english bulldog. But my family takes pretty long walks in the summer and I don't know if they would like that. I read they get heat stroke easily.

Get one from stud friend of goEMAW and child of emaw elite scientist, Marley's Mutts.

http://marleysmutts.com/

Or get one of those crazy huge cats that look like tigers and you can take on walks.  (savannahs)

One of ours loves walks and the other hates them.  The male is larger and longer limbed though.  The female is a short stack.  She's just not built for it.  I wouldn't take either out for one if it were excessively hot.  I wouldn't do that to any dog though.  Seems mean.  All dogs struggle with high temperatures particularly when coupled with physical exertion.  They are perfectly fine hanging out in their crates at home having a chew or sleeping in the AC while you do your long hot walk.
