Good for him, that's pretty cool.

9-2 start. Might be a fun team to follow this year.

Cats win, improve to 11-2. Competition steps up this weekend, need a series win to really start to catch some eyeballs.

UC Riverside series has been altered: Friday will be a double header beginning at 1pm, there is no game scheduled for Saturday and the game Sunday will remain at 1pm as scheduled. They are trying to get in as many games as possible with the upcoming weather headed toward Manhattan.

Cats split doubleheader to open UC Riverside series.
UC Riverside dominant pitching was as advertised as they held the Cats to a single run in each of the two games today. The Cats countered with above average pitching as well. Brogan Heinen, Kstate's game 2 starter pitched a 6 inning gem, but got the no decision. Mitchell Zubradt picked up the win after throwing a scoreless 7th and 8th. Floyd picked up his 5th save of the season with a scoreless ninth to preserve the shutout.

No game tomorrow, Game 3 Sunday at 1pm.

Cats drop series to UC Riverside.
Cats probably had their worse performance as a team of the season today in the rubber match against UC Riverside. Outside a decent pitching performance by starter Parker Rigler, the Cats underperformed in all aspects of the game. Cats started hot with a leadoff triple from Cam Thompson to start the game and was batted in by Wodtke. That was the highlight of the game. Cats threatened again in the 8th when the first two cat hitters reached on errors and we had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. We scored one run on a balk but could never score the runner from third. Cats only managed two hits this game. The bullpen also fell apart giving up 7 runs in the 9th elimimating any small chance the Cats had at victory.
I said last week UC Riverside would be the best pitching we faced so far this season and they lived up to the hype. Cats return to action on Tuesday and Wednesday at Tointon against Creighton and Omaha follwed by a weekend home series against Iowa. Only 6 games remain before conference play begins.

Cats drop game to previously 1 win Omaha.
Lots of stuff to get to on this. Senior starter Colton Kalmus continues to struggle, he has very little command of his off speed stuff and can basically only throw a fastball with any consistency. Not only that but he also committed 3 errors tonight, thats actually pretty tough to do as a pitcher who lasted only 3 innings.
Kalmus took the loss tonight. Im hoping when Bryce Ward and Hudson Treu return from injury we will see less of Kalmus. I hate to beat up on the kid but he is a fifth year player, through 11 2/3 innings this season he has given up 12 hits and 13 walks with a 8.49 ERA. The bullpen did pitch well and shut down Omaha for the most part but the damage had already been done.

Kalmus is not alone in blame for this one either, the Kstate offense continues to struggle. There was definetly improvement from the Riverside series that could also be contributed to the lower level opponent that was faced. Cats struck the ball well at times but credit Omaha's defense for making big plays, especially a diving catch that likely prevented us from having runners on second and third with no outs in the 8th. Cam Thompson who came into the game batting over .400 was 0 for 5 and Quinton Crandall another one of our top bats was also hitless.

By far the worse loss of the season. Cats better rebound quickly or the hot start to the season will be wasted. My only hope is that some of the lackluster effort the last 4 games was contributed to the cold weather and the forecast warms up with Iowa coming into town for the weekend series.
