Let’s make this easier, say chum1 was caught beating off in front of his new employers on a zoom call. Should Roy, HRP, and D2 get together and fire him from his old job? (Leave aside the fact that they didn’t realize he had a second job in the first place).
I agree with MIR here. They suspended him, they still feel he is valuable to the company.
Why is the only acceptable option for you people firing him? I actually think it’s dumb as hell whenever some mob of people demand someone should be fired from a company they don’t work for.
Value to the company can only take you so far. There’s definitely a few factors that could weigh in favor of keeping someone, but in this case they all weigh against.
1. The incident was publicly known
2. Witnessed by multiple employees who clearly were upset about it
3. Involving a figure who faces the public on behalf of the company
4. Tons of people lined up to take his spot
It’s objectively a bad decision for CNN. Do I think he needs to wear a scarlet letter the rest of his life? Not really, but he certainly can’t expect another outlet to have him broadcasting his face attached to their name.
