What's the longest you've been away from a significant other? My home girl is getting back today after being on business overseas for 3 weeks. She was in Dubai and Hong Kong.

While in the Navy, my longest submarine patrol was 86 days. No mail for 65+ days. Nowadays, I look forward to a week in Cleveland.

My wife is flying to Seattle tomorrow to visit her Dad in the hospital.  It's a one way flight cause he's really sick and we don't know if he is going to make it.  It's kind of weird not knowing when she's going to return.  I know I should show more sympathy for my father in law but he's not a very nice person.

yeah, don't worry about it. just show sympathy to her. I never understood the desire to feel bad or be nice to someone who's a bad person because they're dying. if they are/were an bad person they are/were an bad person and you shouldn't feel guilty about it.

For the next few days yes.  My parents are flying in on Tuesday for Thanksgiving so that will be some help.

Good point.  Now all of a sudden he wants to take an interest in my wife and our kid's life.  Like where the hell were you when my wife was growing up.  Cheating on your wife, getting drunk and then hitting your kids, that's where.  I've never been very tolerant of him based on his prior actions and I've already started thinking about how we should spend the inheritance.
