If Slimz nailed this particular sitch, it should be noted that not all companies expect that and that there are places for ppl that don't want to live like that and still make similar or equiv money.

Slimz' examples were the far end of the spectrum, tho.  There's plenty of places that expect a certain level of effort (passion) while still trying to make things enjoyable (happy hours with beer getting dumped on the big boss).

they did an awful job in the hiring process if they really fired fanning for lack of passion.  That kind of thing should be pretty easy to ferret out before you hire someone.

If you think fanning is telling you the whole story, you're a dumbass.  A recent Phoenix MBA grad with no meaningful experience doesn't get paid "100k" to sell "software" in KC.

Yeah, you've been there a couple months, you're already the #1 salesman, and they fired you.  Nothing fishy about that at all.

It is hard to be passionate about enterprise software but I am passionate about commission checks. And I'm super passionate when a BBS buddy sends me over a spreadsheet of contact names and numbers. I would probably love that buddy forever.

It doesn't matter where you graduated from or if you even graduated.  There's very little risk in hiring sales people because they get paid mostly commission.  Some people just have a knack for sales, and 100k is not that much for really good salespeople to make.  Your first point has no merit.  Now, being the #1 salesman and getting fired is perplexing.  If someone was making me a lot of money, I wouldn't fire them unless I had a really good reason.

If you're making your numbers, no one gives a eff where you are or what you are doing.  Thats one of the major selling points to get people to take a commission based job.

If I remember right from talking to him, the bosses at this place said that one of the reasons they liked him initially, was that he wasn't married, didn't have family, etc.  Basically, they liked him because he was (in their minds) free to devote himself fully to the job with no outer hang-ups.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Maybe if he told them he was single again they would take him back?

Fanning wasn't just making his numbers, he was the best god damn salesman in the office.  What makes his feat even more impressive is that he's only been on the job for a couple months.  Then they fired him.  End of story.  There is nothing more to know.
