Also I'm like less than a 10 min walk from the Alamo at my new coworking space.

I'm typically underwhelmed by historic crap but the Alamo took the cake. Wow.

Never forget the Alamo?

It's not from the Alamo. It's from the Battle of Gonzales.

The Alamo is a crappy fort that couldn't hold off an assault by the Mexican army. Mexico couldn't hold the fort, either. If you go into your visit with that in mind, then it won't be so disappointing.

Mexicans certainly came and took it at the Alamo.  They even took Jim Bowie's knife.

At least we eventually got Santa Anna’s leg.

When the Spartans said it, it was kind of badass. Americans saying it was bad enough, but the 300 movie ruined it for all time as now it is on every E-3's shitty souped up civic or lifted truck.

I think some college got in trouble for using the COME AND TAKE IT flag last CFB season.  Maybe UTSA?

Actually, they took heat for no longer using it.

Quote
Regents Chair Kevin Eltife said in a statement last week that he was disappointed by UTSA President Taylor Eighmy’s decision to end the six-year tradition, which included unfurling an enormous flag with the slogan across the student section during the fourth quarter of football games and firing a cannon.

“The Board of Regents does not support abandoning traditions and history that mean much to students, alumni, and other Texans,” Eltife said. “I am very disappointed with this decision and will immediately ask our Board to establish policies that ensure that the governing body of the UT System will have the opportunity in the future to be consulted before important university traditions and observances are changed.”

Yeah, I've been hiding the ball a bit here, but the flag has (unsurprisingly) been hijacked by the gun-loving MAGA crowd.

The Alamo is about a 10 minute walk from the river walk hotel I stayed at for work which is about 7,000 really confrontational homeless people if you use homeless people or time as your measurement of distance. A lady I was with gave some guy her boxed lunch because he had a sign asking for money to buy food and he immediately launched it into the street which made everyone but her lmao.

read another good take tweet yesterday about if you are in a loan with a sub 3% apr you are trapped in your home in a good way. which is very true. we went and looked at a bigger house the other day and the cost difference just from current rates v. what we have now (2.175) was almost $500 more a month which is ridiculous. really puts a disincentive on ever leaving while we still have a mortgage payment. it's not like current rates are historically bad, they are actually still relatively low. they just got wildly low there for a minute.

Yeah, we refinanced in spring 2020 when it bottomed out. I don’t remember the exact number, just the closing person telling us our rate was the lowest she’d ever seen. I looked at slot of houses the past year. I don’t see how I could pull the trigger on moving for a long, long time. Our house value is double what we owe, but it would take another $100k-$200k on top for a house that’s bigger/better enough to go through the hassle of moving. It would be nice to have a spare bedroom, but not $500-$750/month more nice.

Yup, all very true. I can't imagine at this point as much as in like 3-4 years I'd like to go to another house it'll be so insanely expensive so why would I.

I barely even give a crap about rates and house prices anymore. Inventory has always been the killer at least in my neck of the woods. Every house is just ok and even there it’s like some crazy feeding frenzy. That combined with my inherent laziness means we’ll almost certainly be in our house another 5-10 years or so.

our detached garage is constantly tripping the breaker and it's definitely some kind of wiring issue...kinda nervous about what this fix is going to cost.  T's and P's would be appreciated tia.
