Is there really even that much of a difference between a #30 class and a #20 one? Seems like institutional bias alone can account for that difference (i.e., if a recruit gets offered by a program consistently in the top 10, that recruit will get bumped up the rankings as well).

The leap from 30 to 20 is pretty big but it’s way smaller than the leap from 20 to 10.  I don’t think a team that has won the natty in the last 20 years has consistently recruited outside the top 10. It’s why I think UT is in position to start challenging at that level again after 2 straight years of top 5 classes.

I don't think where we are nationally matters at all. I'm much more interested in where we are within the conference, forth among the new Big 12 schools is good, but I'm not about to sit here and be happy with consistently being behind Tech, TCU, and Baylor in recruiting rankings. If we're using our location as an excuse then how many years until we'll be fine with falling behind Houston and UCF too?

This is a nicer way to say "is hard to recruit to Manhattan."

Texas schools are always going to recruit Texas better than we can.  Klieman has developed a nice Iowa pipeline and appears to have started getting serious momentum with Kansas kids too. The schools you listed above us have more financial resources than we do as well, which is also a piece of the puzzle. I envision Houston and UCF to be forces on the recruiting trail now that they have elevated to P5, our league is going to be as tough in football as it is in basketball.  Hopefully the only exception is Iowa State.

Is it really easier to get to Lubbock vs. Manhattan from Houston, DFW, Austin, or San Antonio? I honestly have no idea since I’ve never tried or even wanted to visit Lubbock.

I remember when he missed out on two in-state kids at a position of need in his first year. People said we'd get those kids once he established a relationship with schools in the state. That's what I told myself for a couple years, too. I didn't know if he'd come through, but he has exceeded my expectations.

Assuming a walk-on. I’ve seen several other “committed” posts in the last few days for ‘23s who it doesn’t look like have scholly offers.
