In my school, the kids do get to use the classroom tablets during indoor recess.  They can't bring their own devices.  Teachers HATE indoor recess, though... makes it harder for kids to focus during the rest of the day.

Weber doesn't respect/know/like his players.

Foster doesn't respect Weber.

Foster doesn't give a crap what Weber says, because it is easier to blame the situation on Weber being a POS than to look at his contribution to the problem.

Sorry that I bored the crap out of you with my little anecdote about teaching...as I likely just bored you again with this response.  Good thing I don't respect/know/like you and don't give a crap.

This is what sucks about Weber.  You have to form relationships based on mutual respect for this type of "punishment" to work.  I used to teach 5th grade, and another teacher on my team was a complete bitch.  She had no interest in her students, made no effort to interact with them, and then was shocked when they would just roll their eyes or ignore her when she would punish them.  On the other hand, I invested a lot of time bonding with the students.  They respected me, because they knew that I respected them.  Sure, they got pissed off at me, but they also responded in a way that the bitchy teacher could never get out of them.

One of my buds wrote a song about KC. Give it a listen!

True story:  I went to see David George play at the Hurricane, and after the show, he gave me a big hug and I fell through a plate glass window.  If not for a bouncer named Quincy holding up a giant shard of glass before it fell, Stellarcat would have been Deadcat.  I did end up with stitches above my eye and a lovely black eye that I had to explain to my 5th grade students.  Good times!

Pretty much I'm just sharing this story right now because this game and my nerves are making me nauseous.  And I'm married to a Giants fan.  Bleh.

Seriously, I don't think anyone who bitches about school lunches has ever actually seen a school lunch.  Our kids get 3 choices, which include delicious entrees like chicken teriyaki, cheeseburgers, pizza, etc....pretty much the same crap that school lunches have been forever.

Because I would rather jab a fork in my eye than be a principal.

My Master's is in counseling.

I'm in my 14th year, Master's degree plus 12 hours, and make $50,000.  I started at $34,000 in 1997.  (didn't teach from 2010 until this year)  If I didn't have my Master's, I would be making $43,000.

Grade school is probably pud as hell, but high school would suck and Jr high probably the absolute worst. You're working with developmentally insane people all day

Ah, yes.  Grade school is a piece of cake!  Crazy amounts of differentiation in each classroom, developmental delays, keeping children focused for more than 10 minutes at a time, planning and teaching multiple subjects, inability to think abstractly, varying levels of independence, helicopter parents, uninvolved parents, etc.   Easy peasy.

About what I thought, fairly pud

Yeah, god forbid a job have a few challenges

I wasn't complaining about how tough it is.  I was challenging the "pud" comment.  I'm sure that you could walk right in and do the job with one hand tied behind your back, right?

teachers get paid plenty.  their job isn't difficult, they don't work many hours, and they get summers off.

which part of that statement do you disagree with?  b/c all of it is true so i'm just curious.

All of it.  Summers off...true.  How many hours do most professionals work in a day?  What basis do you have for the claim that our jobs aren't difficult?

Those are very good points, MIR.

Yes.

Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, and numerous white folks with a considerable amount of influence don't speak for me just because I'm white...er, part of the "white community".

I get no love!

I think you need to develop your point into something more than butthurt about a couple corporations not being required to pay for their employees abortions.

WebMD:

Pill  "The hormonal contraceptive usually stops the body from ovulating. Hormonal contraceptives also change the cervical mucus to make it difficult for the sperm to find an egg. Hormonal contraceptives can also prevent pregnancy by making the lining of the womb inhospitable for implantation."

Plan B "Emergency contraception pills work by preventing ovulation, fertilization, or implantation."

IUD "There are two types of IUDs available in the United States. One type releases the hormone progestin, which causes the cervical mucus to become thicker so the sperm cannot reach the egg. The hormone also changes the lining of the uterus, so implantation of a fertilized egg cannot occur.  The other type doesn't use hormones. It contains copper, which is slowly released into the uterine cavity. The copper stops the sperm from making it through the vagina and uterus to reach the egg, thus preventing fertilization."

Just because people/corporations believe something doesn't make it so.

Can't we all just recognize that the real problem is tying healthcare to employment,  and not the family that owns hobby Lobby being opposed to abortion. It's perverted they had to spend their money to exempt themselves from a law tantamount (in their minds) to funding genocide.

I'm all for single payer healthcare.  However, just because they believe that IUDs, Plan B, and ella are "genocide" doesn't mean that it is.  Those methods of birth control work in the same way that birth control pills do...primarily to prevent ovulation.  This is political and I think we all know it.

I wonder if things would be different if their religious views opposed chemically-induced erections?  "Hey guys, having trouble getting it up?  Viagra for everyone!  Sure, we cover that!  Just make sure that you aren't banging a chick who works at Hobby Lobby!"

But very good for their unborn children.

Seriously?  I guess I was unaware that when I had an IUD, I was aborting babies left and right.

Guys...

Word has it that Vulture shattered the backboard while dunking over some kids this weekend at basketball camp.  Ah, the irony.

45

Stellarcat, why did you assume I was talking about the people on one side of the discussion and not the other?

I didn't assume anything, actually.  Your quote just seemed like a good jumping off point in the thread for me to make my statement.

I also respect that he has his own sense of morality and how he didn't ask anyone else to adhere to it.

This is where I take issue with a lot of people (not Oaf specifically).  Gay people aren't telling others that it is wrong to be straight, yet people think it is cool to tell them that they are wrong for being gay.  I think the acceptance vs. intolerance line seems to be directly related to whether or not you think that being gay is a choice.  It also seems outlandish to me to believe that someone would wake up one day and think, "Hey, I choose to have sex with other men.  That seems like the lifestyle that I want to lead!"  And yes, I'm using men in this scenario, because women seem to be a lot less freaked out by close contact with other women.  We generally don't slap each other on the ass during sports, though.  Hmmmm.

46
I'm in favor of people who are willing to look at an issue from a viewpoint other than their own and show respect to the person that holds that viewpoint.

Me, too....but not when someone else's viewpoint is that there is something wrong/sinful/evil/disgusting about being gay.

Disclaimer:  I am not gay.  My son IS gay.  It is difficult to watch people treat him like crap because of that fact.

47
Disagreeing with another's decisions in no way, shape, or form insinuates bigotry.  I can disagree with tons of beliefs, but it doesn't mean I should or would treat them any differently than my best friend or family member.  Why is that so difficult for some to comprehend.

So far, the biggest example of bigotry is coming from those in favor of homosexuality.  How can you not see the irony in this?  I believe that above all else is love, and even though I don't agree with you, I should still try to love you with all of my heart and hope for the best for you.  It is easy to lump religious believers into an intolerant, unintelligent, non-progressive box.  Yet many also lump homosexuals into a nice, neat box also.  How is that any different than what you're actively condemning?

Say I'm a gay 16 year old kid.  If I'm being raised by a "love the sinner, hate the sin" parent, I'm being told that I'm not good enough.  Then I have to go to church with said parent and hear comments, sermons, etc. about how there is something wrong with me because I'm gay.  I go to school, and kids make fun of me because I'm gay (after hearing their parents and church talk about how it is a sin).  I read message board threads that talk about how my sexuality is the equivalent to lying, cheating, and stealing.  People make comparisons between premarital sex and homosexuality, without acknowledging the fact that I likely can't get married, but the abstinent couple will be able to go at it like rabbits once they sign that piece of paper.  Oh, and since these people all believe that God makes everyone, it is clear that either God hated me when I was still in the womb or that I'm choosing the most brutal "lifestyle" imaginable.

That gay kid doesn't affect your life because he is gay.  People standing up for gay rights don't affect your life.   You "disagreeing" with the homosexuality?  THAT actually affects people who are often struggling from all of the BS thrown their way simply for being themselves.

I was going to come on here and delete my post, because I am not one to bash people on a message board.  I'm the polar opposite of my brother, Kougs.  :gocho:  However, since you already responded, I'll leave it.  I like reading the discussion between most people on here, but life is too short to get into a pissing match.

Anyway, I apologize for calling you an a-hole.

FSD, people might be more willing to put serious thought into what you are saying if you weren't such a pompous a-hole about it.
