Kansas State Football / Re: Is BJ Finney the best olinemen we've ever had?

you seem to be really laying the all time greatest/top5 greatest praise on pretty heavy based on one game bro

I've seen KSU play football more then once with these players.

What Snyder era defensive ends play(ed) the run as well/better then Davis?

Tuggle is a freak and only going to get better every game! #TeamTuggle

Very impressed with his toughness and feel for the position.  Knew he would be a plus athlete, never thought he would play anywhere close to the level he did Saturday.  He was an upgrade over Lamur, who I thought made the transition to SLB very well.

Kansas State Football / Is BJ Finney the best olinemen we've ever had?
« on: September 11, 2012, 08:17:34 AM »
Which would be saying something considering the number of guys we've had move on to significant NFL careers.  I don't recall another linemen who has played as well has he has so soon out of high school.
He is amazing on the 2nd level.  I didn't see him miss in the 5-6 times I noticed him downfield rewatching plays.

Sidebar:  Is Adam Davis a top 5 Snyder Era DE if he stays healthy this season?  I'm leaning to yes on that one.

Sidebar #2:  Our top 2 hbs are both very good blockers.  Run and pass.

Where is a pic of James Franklin's wife?

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1175650-layla-kiffin-and-the-25-hottest-college-football-coachs-wives/page/4

Fumi made the bleacher report 25 hottest college football coaches wives list.  Must be said, not a lot of "D1 talent" on that list imo.

That said, yeah I'd hit that.

I will reply to you because I am not taking part in steve dave being a silly goose.

16 is a dumb number.

Is 16 a worse number then 14 if by some miracle ND does come on as a full member down the line?

I just hate 14 with a passion. Trying to figure out how 7 pods of 2 can work, cause 2 divisions of 7 sucks.

Also, I think everyone is undervaluing UM in expansion.  Unless they get the death penalty (internally or externally), they are a Tier 1/2 football gold mine imo.

6
Are none of you listening to Dlew? Why do you care if K-State makes 500K more per year, I want to play Clemson in football because it will be fun.

Should care as long as we're putting the extra $ to good use (renovating/rebuilding everything in the football building, putting flat screens (sound systems, touch screens, finger print id and what ever other techy crap 18 year old kids want) on ever wall/floor/locker, paying football and men's basketball coaches more, etc.).  If we're flushing it down the non-revenue sport toilet, yeah who cares.

Playing Clemson if football would be fun.  Playing UM in football (provided they continue playing football) would just be more fun imo, and more people who don't care about KSU/CU/UM would watch it on tv.

7
To discount Clemson is absurd, they only thing they care about in South Carolina is college sports.

Not discounting them.  I want Clemson in a 16 team Big 12.  What you say there has no bearing in Tier 1/2 negotiations though (all we SHOULD care about at this point).  What gets us more money there is how these teams rate in national (or big regional) telecasts.  UM has a pretty consistent history of clubbing Clemson in that regard.  How much their local fans care, and what kind of pull they have in certain markets benefits their tier 3 value more then anything else, which we don't share at present.

Those Miami/FSU games are on the espn list because they were played on a night with no other college football on football's opening weekend.  Its the same reason Va Tech/Booze is #1. Its not an accurate depiction or their television audience

http://www.bcsfootball.org/news/story?id=4819384

Only see 1 crappy rated UM bowl game on that list and 4 of the top 31 rated bowl games of BCS era.  Only see FSU, tOSU, USC, and OU on that list more times (Mich also 4).

http://www.barkingcarnival.com/2009/12/29/collge-football-tv-ratings-increase/

Scroll down to sept 25th.  UM/VaTech destroyed Ark/Bama head to head in 09.

http://www.bcinterruption.com/2011/12/16/2638956/2011-college-football-tv-ratings-abc-boston-college-miami-usc-oregon-oklahoma-baylor

Only negative rating article I could find on UM, but come on, BC?

Now Clemson?  Go back to the first BCS bowl ratings link.
2011 - 2nd lowest rated Meineke bowl of 6 listed
2010 - lowest rated Music City bowl of 6 listed
2009 - 2nd highest rated Gator bowl of 9
2008 - 2nd highest rated Chick-fil-A bowl of 6 (would be 9 counting the previous 3 Peach bowls)
2007 - 2nd lowest rated Music City bowl of 6
2006 - 2nd lowest rated of 7 Champs bowls
2004 - lowest Peach of 3 listed (would have been 2nd lowest of 9 Peach/Chick bowls combined)

To be fair we'll do UM's bowls on that list:
2011 - 4th rated Sun bowl of 8 listed
2010 - 2nd highest rated Champs bowl of 7
2009 - 2nd highest rated Emerald bowl of 6
2007 - lowest of 3 MPC Computers bowls listed
2006 - highest rated Chick-fil-A/Peach bowl of 9
2005 - 3rd highest rated Chick/Peach bowl of 9
2004 - t-3rd highest rated Orange bowl of 9 (one of the higher rated was nat. champ Orange game)
2003 - Drew 17.2 in Nat Champ game v. tOSU.  6th highest rated bowl overall since 1998.

I'm probably alone here, but I would rather take FSU and Miami than FSU and Clemson. Taking both FSU and Miami delivers a terrific rivalry with national interest to the Big 12, and that kind of thing is more valuable to me than gaining a portion of the South Carolina television market.

You should be alone.  Miami doesn't have any fans.  We played 13 games last year. Do you want to guess which one of those 13 games had the smallest crowd?

stop trying...he just doesn't get it.

Who cares how many people watch their games in person?  Or even how many people consider themselves UM fans?  People f'ing watch them on t.v. in higher #s then almost any other college team.  That's what gets a conference paid.  You can argue that people are not going to watch them as much in the future, but they have been so much more valuable then Clemson over the last 30 years it's laughable to compare the two.  Are we worried about getting our visitor allotment covered?  Talk about picking pennies.

http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/seminoles/content/virginia-tech-boise-state-most-viewed-college-football-game-espn-history

That is the kind of crap that gets my dick hard.

miami wants in: http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/2012/05/report_miami_has_informally_co.php

Do not want.

This.

There are some "ifs" involved with UM, but you want to talk about ND "moving the needle",  UM does.  So does FSU.  Those are schools that people around the country tune in to watch.  Those are both schools that add significant value to tier 1/2 negotiations.

New/tamed UP and reasonable short term NCAA sanctions and there isn't a "realistic" school other then ND and FSU I would rather add.

Not to mention UM is an addition that would likely entice ND to some degree.  Would you rather bring in UM or PITT/BYU (may still take one any way)?

11
There's 0 chance the big 10 mega male genitals blocks us and swoops in on FSU, right?  The AAU/academics chastity belt of self-righteousness makes that impossible?

There just HAS to be some way for all this to fall apart doesn't there?  I'm missing an angle here I know it.

12
The only possible KITN out there is ND to the ACC but there's no rational reason for the latter to go there.

Could easily see ND going to the ACC.  When the scraps of the ACC merge with the scraps of the Big East to reform the east coast power basketball conference.  That conference could well be a better parking spot for everything but football then the BE ever was.  Doubt ND gives up indie status unless/until the big 10/SEC/Big 12 all go to 16 and completely cannibalize ACC.  Really, even then it's a toss up imo.  I have almost convinced myself that they love indie more then they would love another 10-15 mil annually in A.D. revenue.

Kansas State Football / Re: How happy should ISU, KU, and KSU be?
« on: May 19, 2012, 11:12:06 PM »
TCU is the powerball winner in all of this.  A$M doesn't go psycho ex-girlfriend and they never get a shot at power conference money.  They went from mid-major to low BCS to big 4 (with out playing a game in low BCS) in less then a year.  Almost completely out of left field.  They'll increase their t.v. revenue 6-7x in the first year with a solid look at close to doubling that again over the next few.  Really wish we had louisville in that spot right now but tough to bitch about how things are working out.

Kansas State Football / Re: New/Old Bowl Game for the Big 12
« on: May 19, 2012, 01:24:10 PM »
So does this mean that the Cotton Bowl now just takes the two teams after this new bowl?

I'm guessing this will eventually just blow up the "bowls" all the way down the line (or most of the way at least).  Once the #'s on this come out, the conferences will see how much $ they've been pissing down the hole of bowl cronyism for decades.  The conferences will probably cross polinate themselves (big 10 #3 v SEC #3, Big 12 #3 v Pac 12 #3, etc).  It will be another way for the 4 power conferences to further consolidate their power (t.v. revenue) and make it harder for the non-power conferences to get teams into the mega money playoff system.  Who gives a crap about calling it the Cotton Bowl(or Orange, Sugar, whatever) if the conferences can pull an extra 50%-100% revenue out of playing the game?  The bowls won't go away regardless of how big the playoffs get (and I really doubt it will ever go higher then 8).  T.V. is too hooked on that programing, and the country will continue to watch it.

Just awesome that we got in on the ground floor of it and partnered up with the BEST conference for football and the premier non-playoff game.

15
are we discussing NFL Pro Bowlers or All Big 12 players

Strictly talent.  Beems isn't far off.  Gill and co. were a coaching disaster, but pretty good recruiters.  The talent is there to take a significant step forward from God awful to a least average if the new staff has their crap together.

Tampa fans turning on Dez quick.  Keeps skipping minis.  Probably not the best idea for a 4th/5th receiver on a team with a new staff and h.c. who's playing hard ass in the media.

17
You realize this is a preseason list, right?  There is no difference in talent between KU and K-State.  If anything, KU has more talent.

Don't disagree with this.  If Weis and staff are any kind of competent KU should win 6 games minimum.  Bet Bill would walk into that roster and break off 7 or 8 in season 1.

18
The difference:

There is not a Delonte Hill at SC to bring in a revolving door of talent.

Yep, gonna be much tougher for him having to pull assistant coaches out of the frat intramural league.  Oh crap wait..........

19
About all I can say is that there are ongoing conversations, with outcomes undetermined right now.

No?  Still nothing here?  Did we have to put these conversations on hold to work around John's vacation?

20
But that was BEFORE we had John Currie to sell our program and university.   :flush:

On a side note, Congrats Rusty.  You won this hire bbsing in a landslide.  Anything else from here is just running up the score imo.

Sprads IS that much of a pussy, isn't he.

You can kinda see how someone might want him to diaf.

Also, this is an excellent post:

This season is going to be fascinating to watch. Will Frank's group of less-talented effort guys who overperformed because of Frank's demanding style collapse under oscar's feathery-soft touch, or will these same talented players who wilted and underperformed under Frank's oppressive regime blossom under oscar's nurturing leadership?

Would this be terrible for a 6 year stretch? Fireable?

26–7 12–6 T–2nd NCAA 2nd Round
23–12 10–8 T–4th NCAA 1st Round
16–19 6–12 T–9th
24–10 11–7 T–2nd NCAA 1st Round
21–15 10–8 5th NIT Quarterfinals
20–14 9–9 T–4th NCAA 2nd Round

Wouldn't be terrible by any stretch.  Fireable?  Hell no.  Pretty much Frank Martin bball.  Missed 1 postseason, which Frank never did.  Also finished 2nd on Conference twice, which Frank never did.  give or take, Frankesque results.

the guy in the above scenario only won two tournament games in six years. that's not frankesque results. it's not even close to frankesque results. frank won three times that many in one less year. you need to get your head checked.

This, that's 2-4 (Frank 6-4) in the NCAAs and (at least) 3 of 4 trips not playing to seed.

Also, that's 58-50 in conference (53.7%).  Frank went 50-32 (61%).

And 130-77 (62.8%) vs Frank's 117-54 (68.4%).

How is that "Pretty much Frank Martin bball"?

Also, Belvis:  I believe KSU did finish tied for 2nd place in the conference in 09-10.  But lol anyway at the assumption that 11-7 in conference finishes in a 2nd place tie.  We just finished 10-8 and got 5th.  Frank finished 10-6 twice and was 3rd and 3rdT in those seasons.

Please list the other options our assistant coaches had including the salaries they were offered.  tia

Kinda making my point.  Scott didn't even look around.  You don't think he could have stayed here?  Or gone to a number of other BCS jobs?  That dude is a rock star as far as S&C coaches go.

Allegedly we tried (halfheartedly maybe) to keep Brad.  Though that's coming from our AD, so I will grant you that we have no idea the level of truthiness there.

I didn't hear any of the other guys (aside from Brad) made any other inquires.  Sure, having a job is better then not having one.  Still, if Frank is a mad man that was about to destroy his program at KSU, you don't think any of them would look around before they followed him to a lesser program?

Mommy was in a shitty marriage. She made a hard decision and she divorced her abusive husband. As a knee jerk reaction she began dating someone who is the complete opposite.

Now the kids hate their mother's boyfriend because he is nothing like daddy. All that they loved about daddy, the new bf lacks. The kids didn't hear all the late night bickering and the verbal barrage that was laid upon their mother, the cheating, etc.

So now they whine and complain to their mother and disrespect her new boyfriend. All the while putting their dad on a pedestal he didn't necessarily deserve. Daddy left you to start a new family with a woman half your mother's worth. Love your mother and her happiness. :)

Except in this example mommy is a bitch whore and daddy took us to Disney world all the time and bought us lots of cool crap.  Plus he was well muscled and handsome and all your friends were jealous cause he was a bad ass.  So even though you can see mommy is happier now, inside you'll always be resentful that she couldn't just shut up about his drinking and flirting and make do with what she had for your sake if nothing else.  The new boy friend is also kind of a dork that you don't want to be seen in public with.

If you imagine the first seven years of Weber's career don't count (four conference championships, three sweet sixteens, national championship game appearance) -- then I admit it's a step back.  But even then it's not the preposterous step back people seem to argue it is.

Yes, I tend to count more recent results heavier then past ones.  Especially when you're talking 7-14 years ago.  Even more so when the more recent years would be the ones you would logically expect to be the better.

I don't think preposterous was the word you were looking for there.  It's a clear step back.  We can keep arguing how big of one, it's keeping me entertained.
