I'm probably alone here, but I would rather take FSU and Miami than FSU and Clemson. Taking both FSU and Miami delivers a terrific rivalry with national interest to the Big 12, and that kind of thing is more valuable to me than gaining a portion of the South Carolina television market.

You should be alone.  Miami doesn't have any fans.  We played 13 games last year. Do you want to guess which one of those 13 games had the smallest crowd?

They draw incredible tv ratings when they are good, and fun rivalry games are good for the conference.

There was something back a few pages that showed Miami in teh top 10 in fans. Probably a majority of t-shirt fans, though. I think I would rather have Clemson if we only go to 12, but Miami would be OK if we expand further.

I won't claim that the TV people are lying in favor of Miami.

But doesn't it strike you as slightly odd that more people will show up in Manhattan, Kansas to watch Kansas State play Eastern Kentucky than will show up in Miami to watch "The U" play Kansas State?

Yes. That is a rhetorical question.  eff them.

Order of desirability:

Semi-Clemi

GTech

ND

Miami

ND's "fans" will be dead in 20 years...do not want. Beating ND does nothing for anyone. I'd feel no better about beating ND than beating ISU. I don't rough ridin' want them. All in or All out if they become a choice.

Clemson is ready to listen.

Wilkins recaps Board of Trustees meeting

by David Hood -- Senior Writer - Thursday, May 24, 2012 6:47 PM
                |
Clemson’s Board of Trustees met in Columbia Thursday afternoon in an effort to discuss the rumors swirling around the university and possible conference realignment, and in an exclusive interview with TigerNet, Chairman David Wilkins talked about what was discussed in the meeting.

The board called an executive session so they could close the doors, and Wilkins said the board covered a variety of topics.

“In general, we talked about athletics,” Wilkins told TigerNet shortly after the board was dismissed from the meeting. “But we called an executive session and we talked about the ACC contract and the television contract. We did talk about that in great detail. We talked about the general status of conferences right now, and at the very end we talked about tuition and fees for the upcoming school year. Those were the various subjects.”

Wilkins said another reason for the meeting was to help separate fact from fiction, especially where conference realignment and a potential move to the Big 12 are concerned.

“We tried to separate the facts from the rumors,” he said. “This board is very committed to Clemson athletics and Clemson sports. We want Clemson teams to be the best they can be. We are very interested in a football program that is excelling at a high level, and we would consider, as we should, any viable option from any conference if we received any. We have not received any. In the meantime we are committed to working to make the ACC the strongest conference possible. We took no votes and took no action, we just had a general discussion about the lay of the land.”

Wilkins then said that the school would be interested in what other conferences have to say, should they make contact.

“If we were contacted by a conference, we would obviously listen to what they had to say,” Wilkins said. “And then we would make a reasonable decision. We aren’t seeking that, and we aren’t making any overtures about that. I think we have a responsibility to consider any viable component that would come our way. But we haven’t been contacted by anybody. We just want Clemson athletics to be the best they can be. This board is committed to Clemson athletics.”

Because nothing says commitment to the ACC like a closed doors executive session.

Let's play a game called count the mentions of Clemson's commitment to the ACC on zero fingers.

Who cares how many people watch their games in person?  Or even how many people consider themselves UM fans?  People f'ing watch them on t.v. in higher #s then almost any other college team.  That's what gets a conference paid.  You can argue that people are not going to watch them as much in the future, but they have been so much more valuable then Clemson over the last 30 years it's laughable to compare the two.  Are we worried about getting our visitor allotment covered?  Talk about picking pennies.

Those Miami/FSU games are on the espn list because they were played on a night with no other college football on football's opening weekend.  Its the same reason Va Tech/Booze is #1. Its not an accurate depiction or their television audience

To discount Clemson is absurd, they only thing they care about in South Carolina is college sports.   They have significant alumni presence in 2 major metro areas;  Atlanta and Charlotte.   Miami isn't nearly they draw they used to be and their President likes it like that.

http://www.bcsfootball.org/news/story?id=4819384

Only see 1 crappy rated UM bowl game on that list and 4 of the top 31 rated bowl games of BCS era.  Only see FSU, tOSU, USC, and OU on that list more times (Mich also 4).

http://www.barkingcarnival.com/2009/12/29/collge-football-tv-ratings-increase/

Scroll down to sept 25th.  UM/VaTech destroyed Ark/Bama head to head in 09.

http://www.bcinterruption.com/2011/12/16/2638956/2011-college-football-tv-ratings-abc-boston-college-miami-usc-oregon-oklahoma-baylor

Only negative rating article I could find on UM, but come on, BC?

Now Clemson?  Go back to the first BCS bowl ratings link.
2011 - 2nd lowest rated Meineke bowl of 6 listed
2010 - lowest rated Music City bowl of 6 listed
2009 - 2nd highest rated Gator bowl of 9
2008 - 2nd highest rated Chick-fil-A bowl of 6 (would be 9 counting the previous 3 Peach bowls)
2007 - 2nd lowest rated Music City bowl of 6
2006 - 2nd lowest rated of 7 Champs bowls
2004 - lowest Peach of 3 listed (would have been 2nd lowest of 9 Peach/Chick bowls combined)

To be fair we'll do UM's bowls on that list:
2011 - 4th rated Sun bowl of 8 listed
2010 - 2nd highest rated Champs bowl of 7
2009 - 2nd highest rated Emerald bowl of 6
2007 - lowest of 3 MPC Computers bowls listed
2006 - highest rated Chick-fil-A/Peach bowl of 9
2005 - 3rd highest rated Chick/Peach bowl of 9
2004 - t-3rd highest rated Orange bowl of 9 (one of the higher rated was nat. champ Orange game)
2003 - Drew 17.2 in Nat Champ game v. tOSU.  6th highest rated bowl overall since 1998.

Not discounting them.  I want Clemson in a 16 team Big 12.  What you say there has no bearing in Tier 1/2 negotiations though (all we SHOULD care about at this point).  What gets us more money there is how these teams rate in national (or big regional) telecasts.  UM has a pretty consistent history of clubbing Clemson in that regard.  How much their local fans care, and what kind of pull they have in certain markets benefits their tier 3 value more then anything else, which we don't share at present.
