in a perfect world all the teams that left would come back. they aren't.

i do think we need to grab a couple of teams for stability though and if you can get the right teams then you do it. yeah it sucks that they aren't located in neighboring states but it is what it is and it doesn't mean anybody has to love it or that people who want it are saying it's perfect. it's survival and they are realists.

I think a lot of busy body middle managers elected themselves as "serious people" and subsequently label idealists/romantics as "butthurt."  It is really a sad state of affairs when a college football fan has to adopt realpolitik as his lens to view his team and their conference affiliation lest he be labeled a fool or worse.

I think most of the powerful forces in college athletics are forces for evil and that they actively hate both the fans that are bootlicking their penis measuring power grabs and those that are unhappy about it.  But by all means, just embrace the nihilism your childhood has no meaning.
Good job, KK.

Nobody has forgotten how great we had it. assuring the footprint of our athletic programs going forward being seen as anti-the-big8-was-great, or whatever,is pretty foolish.  We could all just sit in a room and watch youtubes of games from the 80s and 90s and snear at the power structure that's leading us forward.  We could all talk about how great we used to have it and about how today sucks and tommorrow will suck even worse because it will be different.  A lot of people in the 80s and 90s thought the same about the 60s and 70s.  And a lot of people in 2030 will think the same about 2012.

We need to grab a couple teams so we can go to two divisions, have a championship game, and be on equal ground with the other three power conferences.  While DeLoss and I prefer the round-robin format, there would be a competitive issue because the other three conferences all have to play an extra game. We will have to match them.

So, who are the two?  I'm thinking Clemson and Notre Dame. But there is absolutely no need to rush this decision.

Either one works. But FSU seems like they might have more fair weather fans.

The funny thing to me is that the ACC seems to be so surprised about this.  They have schools in their conference like Duke and Wake Forest that can't even fit 30,000 in their stadium for a football game. And they also have schools like Clemson and FSU that fill 80,000+ for every home game.

But we still only need two schools.  And Notre Dame can fill seats and television screens as well as anybody.  Who knows?

I strongly dislike the Notre Dame partial membership, remain independent in football scenario Chip (DeLoss) keeps trotting out.  Strongly dislike.

I will have more on this in the coming days, but I think there is a sense in the Big 12 right now that if some schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference want out of the ACC and into the Big 12 such as Florida State, Clemson or Georgia Tech, there is going to be enough momentum to add two of those while still trying to lure Notre Dame's non-football sports to the Big 12.

I'm just not hearing any talk of the Big 12 going to 14 initially.

One my best sources put the percentages at "55 to 60 percent" likely the Big 12 would expand. The timetable is most likely mid- to late June, when the four-team playoff format for college football is finalized. That source said the Big 12 was likely to grow to "twelve and a half."

I'm told nothing will really get hot in terms of any serious decision making or negotiating until mid- to late June because the league wants to have all the information about what the college football landscape is going to look like before making such sweeping decisions.

There's no question the Big 12 - led by Texas - has an interest in adding Notre Dame's non-football sports and allowing the Irish to remain independent in football. There seems to be unanimity in the league for this. Although, West Virginia will certainly have some thoughts about what it was like to have Notre Dame as a partial member in the Big East.

There also seems to be a strong interest in Florida State. After that, it could get interesting. Initially, it seemed like Clemson would be the natural second ACC team to add. But if Georgia Tech were to make serious overtures to the Big 12, it could get interesting.

There are some in the ACC who think Florida State would make a strong push for Miami.

As one source told me, "The Big 12 is going to have some hard decisions to make."

I'm probably alone here, but I would rather take FSU and Miami than FSU and Clemson. Taking both FSU and Miami delivers a terrific rivalry with national interest to the Big 12, and that kind of thing is more valuable to me than gaining a portion of the South Carolina television market.

I also don't like the ND partial membership. Get to 12 and a champy game and let them know we are open to 14 when they are ready.

I'm not even sure why ND wants partial membership, really, other than to say they are in a big time conference. They field teams in a lot of sports that Big 12 schools don't, so would they just go independent in hockey, fencing, and men's and women's lacrosse? Maybe basketball revenue would make up the difference. :dunno:

Bringing Notre Dame in and allowing them to maintain independence in football only opens the door for Texas' independence in football as well down the road.

eff that.

They can keep their minor sports in the Big East or come here and go all in with an iron clad agreement that they are joining in ALL sports by 2017 when their NBC contract terminates.

You should be alone.  Miami doesn't have any fans.  We played 13 games last year. Do you want to guess which one of those 13 games had the smallest crowd?

Special treatment will just make more teams butthurt down the road.
I think I'd rather have Clemson more than GT, definitely more than the U.
